One thing is to not have a region with only 6 Damn teams...make all regions as equal as possible...they don't care about travel no matter what they say.

  2. Atleast we don't have to worry about a monsoon starting at anytime during the game. I remember in the first matchup everyone was on edge just waiting on it. ?

  3. Both teams played Richlands this year and Union was much stronger in line play. Graham is talented, but Richlands took them to overtime. Don't get me wrong, Graham is one heck of a team, but seeing both play, Union would have the upper hand in my opinion. Don't think they win by a great margin, but if both get through and meet up, Union will win this game. I'll go out on the limb and make an even bolder statement, if Richlands and Graham play again, Richlands will win, but that is a futuristic wish, and its one game at a time.

  4. 1. Similar to Unionguy_2017 on a neutral field who would win between 2016 Appomattox and 2017 Blacksburg? Since you and Brady have seen many Blacksburg games. 2. Brady, was you at B-dubs last Friday in all Tech attire? I was going to come introduce myself but didn't want to look like a fool if it was not you!

  5. Not worried about Graham at this point. The Blues are knocking on the door and in 4 days, Union will have put up or shut up. Don't get me wrong, I am a Union guy but if they think for one second the Tornados are coming to Bullet just lay on our soft Bermuda grass then we are wrong!!

  6. I think you may be underestimating Graham just a touch! I don't think union is 2 or 3 scores better than Graham at any point in the game.

    TSSAA 2017 Playoffs

And with the Nashville/Murfreesboro area continuing to explode, I think even the Knoxville area powerhouses like Maryville, Fulton, Catholic, etc. will have a tough go of it in 5A & 6A. Alcoa and Greeneville will continue to be successful because of the great organization and amount of money/backing they have at the 3A & 4A level. Not many schools at that level can come close to that.

Just let every team play in playoffs and make regular season completely irrelevant...and if you finish 0-11 then make sure those kids get a participation trophy Geez it's getting worse every year

  9. That's why you go with 4 teams in the Region playoffs

  10. Just because I said I felt like Union would beat any team in the region by 2-3 score does not translate into me saying Union beats graham by 21. Really guys? Two scores (12-16 points, yes). Some have mentioned higher margins. But that game isn’t scheduled. Union plays Richlands at the park Friday night at 7. A great rivalry with mutual respect. It’ll be a fun game.

  11. Richlands was down 14-10 to Blacksburg and it was Blues ball at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Does that mean they almost beat Blacksburg?Because if I stated that I’d be laughed off the board.

  12. That's exactly what I'm saying...if you are #1 seed you have EARNED the right to play the lowest seed...if you lose to an #8 seed then yes it's embarrassing
    1 point
  13. There is no doubt Union is probably the strongest up front, but I don't think Richlands, Graham, or VH are push overs by any means. So how could you say teams in the region are really weak up front Offensively? Maybe not as strong as Union, but come on, let's be fair.

  14. Yea give the #4 seed and easier game than the #1 seed which earned that during the regular season....brilliant idea haha

    Union vs. Richlands rematch

Considering Union lost their starting QB;Turner has done a remarkable job of exceeding expectations without your starting QB.

  16. These teams are about as even as you can get. I think it depends on whether or not Marion can get Ford going. As he goes;Marion goes.

  17. Look at the schedule. They're 3-7 and lost to all top teams, almost beating DB. A win over a 4A (VA) school that is a good team is a good win. And Union held them to fhejf single lowest point total.

  18. The guy who said that Union would blow out Graham.

  19. I've seen a pretty decent amount of film on them. They don't necessarily blow you away on tape, but they are deceptively great. Kinda like Clarke Co. was in 15

  20. Based on level of competition, Central (Woodstock).

  21. Union is always capable of laying an egg. They have done so in the playoffs before. I agree, they HAVE to bring their A game each week and not let off the gas if they expect to win 5 more games. As far as the MoWest win...it's all about perception and relevance. Richlands is down this year, but had one of their losses been to Chilhowie or Grundy, I would have still considered that a huge victory for the smaller school.

  22. I don’t think it’s a bad win at all. I just can’t bring myself to be excited about beating a 3-7 team even given their competition. I know Union is a good team. In the bracket challenge I picked them to go all the way, because I think Appomattox will come from region C, but with all the success they’ve had the last 3 years they haven’t had to come to southwest Va and play in the kind of environment they’ll see in Bullit. But I think one weakness of Union is them allowing teams they should put away hang around longer than they should. They should’ve buried Richlands with the difference in yards and such, but had a couple things went a different way, they lose that game at home. Same kind of thing with Abingdon and Lee hanging around so long and also the MW game. I’m afraid they may slip up and lose to someone in these playoffs they shouldn’t.

  23. Graham returned a fumbled for a touchdown & Bluefield returned an interception for a touchdown so that part is a wash. Both teams really only sustained one "good" drive each all game. The other time each was in scoring position Bluefied kicked a field goal and Graham fumbled on the 1 yard line with less than a minute to go. Graham "could've" won that game but I won't say "should've" because that was one of the most evenly matched games I've ever seen. Neither team showed an edge. Both teams have improved since that game. I thought Bluefield might struggle against A couple teams early but there's no way I would want to play them now. I can't believe how much better they look now & I think it is all but a lock they play for the state championship. Graham with the QB play of Allen is a different team now and even with the loss of Reed I think they're a better team now than they were 11 weeks ago. But to @UVAObserver's point, the Region D perception would be a lot different had Graham not handed the ball off to win the game to a player that hadn't touched the ball all game lol I'm not saying that Graham is better than Union but even with the 1 loss by Graham it came down to the last week of the season to determine the 1 seed. If graham beats Bluefield they're the #1 seed comfortably and would most likely be the favorites to win the region to the casual fan.

  24. To be fair, they play a brutal schedule. Greenville is the prohibitive favorite to win in TSSAA 4A, then you Add in Farragut, Science Hill, Dobyns Bennett who is much improved over the last few years. And Bearden is no slouch.
    1 point
  25. What do you think that? MW finished their season at 3-7. Just because they’re a bigger school doesn’t mean they’re good.

  26. I haven't been buried in it as much as I had anticipated. It's amazing, but it's also so functional that it was a breeze to learn and I just picked up where I left off with my 6S+. My head is buried in 9 separate projects, and none of them are my senior year of classes.

  27. I'm a little crazy when it comes to playoff's because I think 1 should play 5; 2 play 6; 3 play 7; 4 play 8. Then the winner of 1&5 play the winner of 3 & 7; the winner of 2 & 6 play the winner of 4 & 8; the winner of those two games play each other. I think it would make for much more interesting games, and give the lesser teams a chance to win at least one game. I mean it just makes more sense to me, but VHSL never has done anything that makes sense.

  28. Haven't seen either team, but pulling for Ridgeview to win.

  29. I am a Graham fan! I do not hate Ridgeview ... nor any other team ... just hoping that Grayson County makes the trip to Bluefield next week IF Graham defeats John Battle this week. I will be behind Ridgeview 100% IF they are our regions representative in weeks to come.

  30. I've watched the first half of the Grayson/Galax game and Grayson has a good size line. The offense doesn't really do anything fancy they just run right at you between the tackles. They'll run about 4 times then try catching you off guard with a pass. QB seems to be pretty accurate when he throws and he can tuck it and run if need be and they have two pretty good receivers that will be hard to cover one on one. Defense looks to be very physical inside but there weakness shows on the edges. Their kickoff return team is pretty good so RV will need to fill their lanes. That's my take on it.

  31. Let’s go back to Week 1. Say Graham doesn’t fumble, and beats Bluefield 21-17. Who’s the favorite now? I think people are putting way too much stock into the “1” in Graham’s 9-1 mark. But for a Week 1 goal line fumble, Graham would have the best win over any other school in SWVA, hands down, argument over. These teams are almost dead even...the best D in the region (not state) against the best O in the region (not state), and I’d be floored if the score was more than 1 score either way.

Each region has the autonomy to allow as many teams as they choose to make the playoffs.

  34. I think Union has proved that they are the team to beat, and if I look at their season, they should face Appo in the championship and have a good chance of winning it all, but I've seen the unexpected happen in the playoff's so many times. I think every team has to play one game at a time and be expecting the unexpected. I don't think anyone has what Union has, but I didn't think BBurg would win the title in their division last year, so you never know, one or two bad plays can cause an upset, so for anyone to win the title, they have to have their mind in every game and every play, but I guess that's why we play the games. I would love to see someone from our area win the title, and I would be cheering all the way for Union, or Graham, or anyone from our area in the championship, but come Friday I'm cheering for the Blues to pull off what seems to be the impossible.

  35. I sure hope Union believes they’re 2-3 TDs better than Graham. If they do, they’ll be getting out the basketballs on Saturday, November 25th.

  36. Union has the best D in 2D, yes. But have you researched the other 24 teams in the playoffs? Appomattox has a D1 power 5 ACC player on it's defense, too. Poquoson plays a ridiculous schedule filled with bigger schools. Clarke and Central and both very, very good teams. I understand you're confident, as you should be. But that's a bold statement saying they have the best D in the entire state in 2A.

The solution is East and West divisions with 8 teams each(as opposed to 16 like before). I love regions, I'm VERY excited that we are going to have regional champs to represent our area in the state tournament but it creates issues.

  38. I don't have anything against Ridgeview I'm just pulling for Grayson due to it bordering Smyth County. Don't feel bad everyone hates Marion too lol

  41. Castlewood couldn’t even beat a putrid Lebanon team. What have they done to even give a glimmer of hope that they’d beat Chilhowie?!
    1 point
  42. Four isn’t enough. 8 is probably too much (though it benefited Richlands this year). 6 could be right and give the top two BYEs. Who knows. But at 4, Marion doesn’t make it and no 8-2 team should be left out.

  43. If you were in 3rd grade then, I presume you’re in 10th or 11th grade now. I’m saying this out of kindness, but going back to an 9-year-old thread and making an effort (and a particularly poor one, might I add) to vindicate your father is the height of unwise. The truth will stand for itself, whatever that may be. You have more important things with which to concern yourself than trying to fan flames that died 9 years ago.

  46. Yes!! Me too Union is drooling at the mouth waiting on Friday to get here. They are finally going into the playoffs healthy for once. I think there offense has been very good with James playing QB. What I saw the last couple of weeks with qualls throwing the ball around they are firing on all cylinders offensively and defensively.

  47. Most of their basketball team decided to play football this season. Gave them some serious offensive weapons

  48. Appo appears to have a very good program but they don't have the same personel as last year. Things change from one year to the next. I think there are 5/6 teams that could beat them but by me saying that, they are top dog until proven other wise.

    Playoff Droughts

Tim Hayes from the BHC researched for me. He said VHS played at home in 2002 against Grundy. I figured that either '97(9-1) or '87(8-2) would have been the last time. He told me that all of those playoff games were on the road. I even asked VHS' loyal statistician for the last 2+ decades, and he said he couldn't remember. Either way, now that it seems set, it's a rare event in Bristol and the stands need to be packed next week!
