  1. Bigwinners...this was a great post and a very fair assessment in my view. I know both teams very well and agree with you. I do think some Union posters just simply don't give Graham the respect they deserve. You can't teach SPEED! Graham has more overall athletes that can fly and very physical. I think the physicality and discipline on defense has been Graham's biggest improvement from recent years...and O yeah...did I say speed. They have it. I think Unions ability to get to Allen quickly will be the key. Allen can sling the football. He was more accurate with his receiver's than I expected. Plus he can run. Much smarter and very tough than people think. I give Union the edge only because of home field advantage. Union no question has the advantage up front. Graham in my view has the better athlete's even though Union has many. I respect Union and there great fans who I have enjoyed meeting and watching. I just don't think some realize how good Graham is. I expect a very close game...but as crazy as it sounds I wouldn't be shocked if either team won by a couple of touchdowns. I'm excited to see this one. Good luck to both teams but I will be pulling for our County neighbors.

  2. This young man is the definition of toughness. He had a horrific injury in the Richlands jamboree when his leg was broken and he had to be airlifted out of there. He came back only to suffer another leg injury, re have and came back again moving to the defensive side of the ball and becoming one of Graham's best defenders. This latest injury was very scary, he was blind sided with helmet to ear hole contact after the play was over by a Grayson defender who I will not name. Very scary situation Michael was motionless on the field for quite a while. Don't know if he was concussed or not. But an uncalled for cheap shot, that could have ended tragically. Looking forward to a fun trip this Saturday. Hoping for a good clean game with no injuries and may the best team win!! Whoever wins. You can bet that I will be cheering for them to bring the title back to region D. Where it belongs

  5. Cooke can run a 4.48 backwards, you are delusional. Bradshaw's best time was a 4.52 at the NFL combine and he himself will tell you that Cooke is faster. To be a Graham fan that never actually goes to see them play and relies mostly on a pitiful radio broadcast, you sure throw a lot of shade their way. That's why I don't like posting on here because of fake fans like yourself. No wind aided time coming from their indoor practice facility and they sure as hell didn't use a stopwatch. They were electronic. As was the time at the camp in Charlotte. WVU put a speed jacket on him and offered him immediately afterwards, but it wasnt a "wind aided" speed jacket. The only wind aided stuff around here is the stuff coming from your direction. And don't refer to me as "you people". You're not any better than anybody else on here.

  8. Yeah they did.. but that was kind of my point. Richlands controlled the ball for the most part and held Grahams offense in check for most of the game and Graham pulled it out in overtime. They did the same thing in overtime vs Giles. I wasn't saying because they beat Richlands they should beat Union.. I'm saying that Graham has been Battle tested for games like this.

    Head Coach?

Refer back to Nov 26, 2016 in a topic on Hurley's Schedule if you need a reminder, but anyway, the reason for this topic wasn't to let Central or Union fans hijack the thread. I apologize for mentioning your name. We didn't see things the same in that thread, I truly do hope that Union wins the state title this year. I'm only interested in Hurley's athletics only. If no one has any info on what the subject matter is that was stated in the opening, then let this topic fade away until something new occurs.

  10. I'd rather pay more and actually have signal lol. My cousin had Sprint and didn't have signal in half of the places she went in Richlands. I saw that first hand. I've been with Verizon since 08. No need to run back now since it works well.

  11. I ran out of likes, but thank you! another question if anyone knows.. does sprint have LTE in BSG?

  15. Graham doesnt have a lot of participation in track. Several of their athletes play soccer in the spring. Track has never been popular at Graham, even when I went there in pre historic times. Of course Cooke's fastest OFFICIAL time is 4.37 ran at a camp at VT. He also has an official time of 4.40 clocked at a camp in Charlotte, NC. I capitalize official because of how many folks doubted that these numbers were for real at the beginning of the season. 13 or so D 1 offers later, after these times were posted, I guess we see he's for real. You don't need a watch to see how fast this kid is, if he gets in the open field, it's going to the house, simple as that, he can fly. Graham has several kids who can run in the 4.5 to 4.6 range on offense. Lester, Gray. Allen, Justice all have very good speed. Curto is very athletic and decent speed as well, I'd like to see him get the ball more, but there are just not enough football to go around. I can't help but wonder how tough of an out Graham would be with a healthy Reed and Chinault playing this season. Don't sleep on their defensive, they are decent up front and their linebacker play and secondary are exceptional. Not a lot of success passing on Graham. Richlands was able to put pressure on the QB, but Allen made big plays with his feet. I don't think Graham can simply drop Allen back in the pocket and try to let him pass against Union. They have to get him moving, make those big linemen chase him around and wear them down. Otherwise it could be a long night for Graham.

  22. Like said we have a nice Mexican restraunt called Little Mexico, Dari-Delite, kind of a robos/hobknob type place if you've heard of those, Annie's Cafe, or Four Seasons, all of which are not fast food and I highly recommend any of them. Again the SWVA Coal Museum right behind the park has some nice history in it, we have another museum in town but I couldn't tell you what's in it because I've never been in it. I hear alot of people visiting the John Fox Jr house as well. Never been there either. As far as parking, you can park inside the park like said as long as you get there at 1230-1 you shouldn't have a problem at all. It's not to bad to get out either, it's police directed traffic once you get back out to the main road and it's not a big Hold up

  23. Just outside of bullitt park is the swva coal museum. Not sure if it’s weekend hours if it is opened then. Dari delight is the place to eat. Texas melt! Just my option. You may want to park in the park if you get there before 1230-1. Otherwise you will be parking in town and walking a few blocks.

  24. That will be entirely up to my wonderful wife lol. Since we go to different colleges (we both went back to school after many years off), we don't get to live together. So I'm gonna assume she will say no since we haven't seen each other in 2 1/2 weeks and this is Thanksgiving break. But ya never know.

  25. Seating this time of year isn’t a problem. Best bet is to get there 30-45 min early and you’ll find a seat. As for parking, best bet is to park in the surrounding neighborhoods and walk in, easy in and out. We have a really good Mexican place to eat if you like that type, other than that it’s mostly fast food but there’s a good variety. Check out the Southwest Virginia Museum if you have the chance. Sounds like it would be right up your alley. I think you will enjoy BSG and the Park.

  27. I can’t speak for all of us Bears, as I’m new to the Union/Richlands rivalry. But I’m good with hanging with you guys. What few interactions I’ve had with y’all have been polite and positive. A lot of respect between these two programs. Come on down.

  33. JFC One-Allen will be the best QB Union has seen. Full stop. The kid from Battle had some success scrambling, I'm worried what Allen might do with Union having to command so many resources to stopping other athletes. (Except maybe throwing the deep ball, that kid from LCC was dropping dimes but that's a 0-10 team. I'll give the QB on the 11-1, #2 team the edge on that alone) Two-All this "Union and three yards cloud of dust harrumph, all we gotta do!", Have you people watched Union play? Very few drives are not broken open by a 30-40 yard rush. That's a POSITIVE. Don't hide from it. We likely won't outrun Graham for 80 yard TDs, but I'll take a drive that has four 20 yd runs with a TD at the end. If Union comes out in the T and tries to just go up the gut for four yards a play, we will lose. Simple. Graham will get a couple stops, score once or twice, have Union behind the 8-ball and Union loses all game control. Gotta attack, be dynamic, score points. Call those counter plays that seemed to average 40ypc last night, but don't abandon the jet sweep. Three-I can't see a 21-14 game. These offenses are just too good. If Graham can't hold up at the LOS on defense, Union will get points. Probably 28 at least. If Union can't contain Allen and Cooke or Lester get loose, Graham will get points. Probably 28 at least. I have a couple huge red flags that I'm not even gonna post bc they worry me so much with Graham's speed. It's not about any single Union player, it's about a unit that gave up big plays CONSISTENTLY all year long. Itsounds like I'm trashing someone if I don't post it. It's the kickoff unit. Gotta do something there or Graham could get points there. If you're gonna discount Union being held to 13 by RHS because of "rivalry game" or whatever, don't then mention RHS holding Graham in check. Those two teams aren't rivals?? RHS got to play Union twice, that helps a ton. But it's not RHS-GHS that gives me most hope, it's Giles-GHS. Union can take cues from how Giles was able to fight back despite being behind big and almost win. Union is better in almost all areas than Giles IMO, so that gives me hope while other games (Graham-FC scares me to death) worry me. I'll take Union 34-32

  38. The QB from Letcher was by far the best passing QB Union has seen this year. The kid could throw it 50 yards and put it right in the hands of his receiver. He was the best scrambling QB also. That was all in the first half. Adjustments were made and he wasn't a factor at all in the 2nd half. Battle's QB was the best running QB we've seen. Marion's QB looked great in warm-ups, but was a non-factor in the game. According to Battle's coach, they didn't have any trouble moving the ball on Graham, but turnovers killed them. Have only seen video of Graham. Obviously, they have lots of athletes and speed. Hard to judge that speed from film. Union is in for a tough game. They HAVE to control the line and conduct time consuming drives to win. They CAN'T allow Graham to get 2 or 3 scores ahead. We're simply not built for comebacks unless we miraculously find a passing game. We will need to pressure Allen without giving him lanes to escape the pocket. Going to be a fun game, and I really think the pressure is on Graham more than Union. Not sure how many of Graham's current team came to BSG in 2015, but I remember this quote from Palmer in the BDT.. “We play in the Bluefield and Graham game so they can’t bring nothing that we haven’t seen before as far as a crowd goes,” Graham head coach Tony Palmer said. “We could care less about what their crowd is going to be like, we are just concerned with what happens on the field... But after some communication issues, false starts and time outs the environment did make a difference. Maybe not in the outcome of the game per se, but it did on some plays. Maybe those plays turn out to be key plays and then affect the outcome. Just hope The Park is as lively on a Sat afternoon as it is on Friday night.

  39. Sounds like it's time to piss on the fire and call in the dogs cause this hunt is over. Tazewell county save yourselves some money and don't even bother sending Graham to BSG.

  40. I literally haven't heard that Marion's QB was the best in the region 1 time all season. Hell they subbed him out for the backup the 3rd series against Graham lol if you don't believe me then read the quote below
    1 point
  41. That was my thoughts too.. but I don't think people were going to take my word for it. Thanks for backing that up. It's amazing to see the progression that Allen has made from game one until now. There were many that questioned who the starter should be, especially after the Bluefied loss and after Lester started and played well at QB when Allen was hurt two games. Since coming back from the sprained ankle Allen has literally put Graham on his back every week. Everyone knows about Cooke and how good he is but Cam has taken over the games lately. He's the only reason Graham pulled it out against Richlands. Richlands limited Cooke and Lester but they couldn't stop Allen. The next week he accounted for 7 touchdowns against Fort Chiswell. Last night he threw 4 touchdowns, ran for 1, and had a pick6 on defense. He's an awesome athlete. If union wants to win then you need to dedicate the defense to stopping Allen more so than Cooke.

  42. I haven't seen Letchers QB but you're wrong on your other two statements. I don't hold that against you because I know you haven't watched Cam Allen because if you have you wouldn't compare Marion's QB to him. And Battles QB is good but, again, not on Allen's level when it comes to throwing the ball and definitely a step behind when it comes to scrambling as speed. I would agree mostly with everything else you've said. Control the ball and shut Graham's offense down and you win. That seems obvious. A few teams have controlled the ball against them already but other than Bluefield there hasn't been a team to shut down their big play ability.

  43. I agree pretty much with what Ryan has said. I think there are 2 advantages that Union will have that will see them win in what should be a fun and exciting game to watch. One is the front 7 of Union, which is at least as good as the Richlands front 7 .....if not better and of course the home field advantage. I think that Graham has an advantage of over all team speed which can be so very dangerous and that will give Graham a chance to go down there and have at legitimantt chance to win the game. But I think the home field and the line play will be the deciding factor. But I am getting old and my wife says I am a little senile so there you go. It should be a great game and I wish both teams good luck and hope one of them brings back a state championship to SWVA !!!!

  44. By that same token, Union hasn’t seen the offensive horses Graham has, either. I trust defense more than offense in these situations, but I’d be shocked if this was greater than a 1 score game either way.

  46. I’ve always wondered why they wait til all teams are eliminated. At the college level, all-conference teams are announced prior to the start of conference tournaments. Seems to me they would get more press that way as opposed to announcing the teams when everyone is in basketball mode.
