  3. Thanks man for trying to help out Mv91 is a fantastic fan and he deserves all the help you can give him with the seating arrangement. I know he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, a stand up guy all the way. I appreciated how all us SWVA fans come together to support each other when we play (outsiders) someone other than each other. Thanks Man.

No, they chose to leave Liberty because you can now carry a firearm on the campus of Liberty and the VHSL wanted no part of having firearms onsite at a high school title game.

  6. The leadership at the school would attack this if it were able. The town of big stone owns bullitt park. Town council would have to vote and budget for upgrades. I’m all for that. Don’t get me wrong please. The town is currently installing a youth baseball complex for tourneys soon. I pray that money generated from that could improve seating at Bullitt Park.

  8. Well, that stinks. Would love to come and support the Bears but definitely would rather not sit on the track. And I am definitely not going to sit on the Appo side lol. Just from my view from the visitors side, it looks like a ramp brings you up to the home stands. Just no room for a wheelchair to sit at the front of the bleachers? Thanks for info!! Just my 2 cents, the "grandfathered" in stuff is for the birds!!! Unfortunately it happens all over the place!

  9. Not true here in SWVA. Over the past 4 yrs. the games between Richlands and Union wasn't decided until very late in the fourth, or even overtime. Union has the experience of for quarters no matter what happens in the first quarter. GROUND & POUND with the crowd noise and the travel will win this game for the Bears, but they will have to control the clock for four full quarters, not just one, and I think they understand this. Go BEARS!!!!!

  10. I think the key to the whole game lies in the first quarter, Union is the favorite but must play like an underdog. Union can't get behind two touchdown's and win. If Appomattox get's ahead and you have to throw the ball you are doomed. If Union wins the coin toss, I would take the ball and keep it, as long as I could just to shorten the game. Speed Kills but if speed isn't on the field it can't hurt you. If Union can muddy up this game to where it becomes a Slugfest of runs and punts, I really like their chances.

  11. I knew that Appo was losing a lot. Didn't know that about Giles or Glenvar. That trio has had a pretty good run lately, to say the least. I don't think D will be AS deep next year, but there may be a surprise team or two. Very few people saw RV winning 9 games or VHS hosting a playoff game, before the season started. I can't speak for the other teams, but next year is the year that Bristol has been looking forward to for VHS football, for quite a while now.

    Schedules

I did the best I could to compile the schedules together again. I have pinned them at the top of the board as usual. There's a few that aren't complete as I couldn't find team schedules for those teams and had to piece them together. There's a few teams I'm only missing a couple or so games. If anyone has missing games or corrections, as I'm certain I've made mistakes, feel to free send me or someone who can modify posts, and we'll get it fixed. And again, I will try to update some scores along the way, but I'll make no promises about it being well updated...some help would be appreciated.

  18. Union_fan...Is there anyway you or someone could help Mv91? He is a great fan and even better person. I don't have any idea how much anybody could do there to help. You would love meeting him and even watching the game with him. Forgive me if I'm out of place by asking. Just thought I would try... thanks

Looks like a statement about shooting muslims precipitated the move. http://www.roanoke.com/sports/high_schools/vhsl-some-schools-threatening-liberty-boycott-over-falwell-remarks/article_b838b868-bd48-5e46-ac81-6d69787a4376.html http://www.roanoke.com/sports/high_schools/vhsl-votes-to-move-most-state-championship-events-from-liberty/article_a1883db8-ced1-5fcd-b310-522153cf1171.html http://www.wdbj7.com/content/news/VHSL-Executive-Director-explains-decision-to-move-playoff-events-from-Liberty-University-378465521.html

  21. Just a thought Re: concrete bleachers. RIchlands has concrete bleachers and they took out about a 10 foot section of metal railing at the 50 yard line and installed a 4'x15-20' platform on the front of the stands. If the aisle on the front of the bleachers is too narrow for a wheelchair, maybe put a platform at the top of the current ramp leading to home side. Just a thought. Side Note: Not sure if Bullitts track is used for meets. Richlands is and the platform did eliminate two running lanes (I think)

  22. Oh, thank you for bringing me into the present with the hotel description, I though that was a futuristic thing. What most have know from travel over the years is that teenagers have a tendency to stay up long hours and enjoy the freedom from parents and coaches, playing games and having fun. It happens all the time. A team that travels (even if they stay in one of those things you call a hotel) doesn't get the same rest they would if they were home in their own bed without fellow players around. SO YES travel does make a difference!!!; that's why it is so concerning with coaches when their team has to travel.

  23. Yes, but Charleston won't give all the freebies that Wheeling gives the WVSSAC officials... And I'm not talking about the referees, I'm talking about the ones who run the WVSSAC...

  24. That's unfortunate. Mitchell Stadium was just like this till a few years ago. Old concrete stadium. They had to make improvemens for accessible seatingon both sides. Honestly watching a game from a track and the only view you get is the backsides of players, coaches, and fans isn't much of an experience. Don't take this as a slam towards you or anyone else on here. Maybe this is an issue that may be corrected in the future with the right leadership.

Thanks Hoss, I was about to reply back just got my email back from TSSAA. The VHSL could learn a thing or two from the guys and gals running the TSSAA. Quick and kind response. I emailed the VHSL twice last years and I am still waiting on the return emails.

    TSSAA 2017 Playoffs

Tickets are $12, and good for three games on that day. Parking is $10. If you go, dress in layers. I've been several times, and it's a great bargain. You used to be able to leave between games, so I suppose they still allow that. IIRC they either stamped our hands or gave us a bracelet to get back in. Would go this year, but really want to see Union & Appomattox. That's a little too much driving for me these days. Here is everything you need to know. http://tssaasports.com

On BVU, they come on the CW channel normally, 1004 I think it is. I am glad you posted this. I had a question that maybe you or @JDHoss could answer. I doubt I will get to go, but IF I can go down Friday to watch Greeneville, can you watch all 3 games that day by paying one price or do you have to leave the stadium between games, and how much is admission?

  30. Our team won state at Bullitt in 1992. I was at the 1996 game as well. You are exactly right on your assessment of the Surry co band. I’ve shared that story many times. They. Killed. It! Very impressive routine.

  33. I'm sorry, Ryan. BearDawg, was that the '96 State Championship? That was my first visit to Bullitt. I parked at the Baptist Church and sat on portable bleachers in the NE end zone. The best thing that day was watching Appy utterly dominate Surry County. The next best thing was watching the Surry County Band's half-time show. It was awesome watching the distinctive style and tradition of the predominately African-American marching band. At the beginning of the show, most fans were watching politely while a few idiots were mocking the band. By the end, the band had the crowd on their feet and applauding in appreciation.

    Chilhowie @ Galax

Galax has 10 seniors but two are kickers and another rarely plays. The coaching staff tends to cater the starting lineup to match-up with the opponent in certain spots but they typically start 6 seniors. But another half a dozen freshmen play significant minutes. As has been stated previously, if your going to get Galax, now is the time. The group coming up is something very special.

  36. Against Graham, I think Union tackled well in space. I think it is key this week against Appomattox. I think the linebacker play of Kennedy and Lane will help shut down the slant!! Secondary play will be big, but I agree Graves needs to be doubled. Somebody jamming him on the line and someone playing over top of him. I seen it against Graham towards the end of the game they walked Hamilton out on Cooke and had Qualls covering him over top. The front 7 is key I think, getting pressure on the QB and not allowing him to get free and limiting the big gains. I'm not predicting a score because I have seen very little of Appomattox. I do think Appomattox will be shell shocked traveling down to Bullitt Park and experiencing the atmosphere at the park. I think they will will run the ball well, the tandem of Mitchell, Owens, Jenkins, and Zirkle is going to be hard for any defense to stop. Also with Qualls and Polier capable of running the ball!!!! GO BEARS!!!!!!

  37. I think Union is built to beat Appo. Losing Turner has forced Union to become a dominant run team. That eats clock and forces Appo to have to score each time they touch the ball. They also have Mitchell. He can run or catch. By having Mitchell run the wildcat not throwing the ball much, you eliminate Graves from the equation. On defense, Union has maybe the best front 7 I've ever seen in SWVA. Just dominant. If they can get pressure on Scruggs, I like Union's chances. I don't see Appo gauging this D on the ground, so it'll have to be through the air, and it'll be up to the front 7 to make sure Scruggs doesn't have time to get it to Graves deep.

  40. Unless Tennessee High upsets Landstown in round 1, Gate City most likely has a loser's bracket with nothing but local teams with the exception of Webb. Gate City plays the winner/loser of Tennessee High and Landstown in their second game.

  43. Congrats on the BIG win today, Bears! I'm not gonna make a prediction on this one. I know that most around here are riding high after today's game, and rightfully so, but Appo is 42-1 in their last 43 games for a reason. Don't get me wrong, I'm most definitely pulling for the Bears, but it's gonna take a special effort from Union and maybe a little luck for them to win it. Just because Appo isn't beating everyone by 40+, doesn't mean they still aren't a GREAT team. I promise that I'm not hating. As I said, I hope that Union wins, and I definitely believe they can, but Appo is far and away the most complete team that Union has played this year, even if Appo is a step back from last year's team. Union is playing their best ball at the right time of the year, and that is what is needed to bring home the hardware. We're used to being the school who has the hopes of the region of bringing home a championship in baseball most years, and local teams are usually rooting AGAINST us. It doesn't seem to be that way in football and rightfully so. Good luck from Bristol, Bears. This Bearcat hopes that you guys go all the way!
