  1. Park Central was located on Pulaski Ave along the railroad. It is now the Mt Zion Church building. Before it was called Park Central it was called Genoa. I don't know why the name changed. Perhaps when they added the students from Princeton or perhaps they built a new building. They never had a yearbook so tracking the history is extremely difficult.

    After The Whistle

Shouldn't that be "Before the Whistle" since it's before the games? lol

Well if you want to talk about facts then prove what you are saying. Not hearsay. Solid, physical proof.

  4. What town has the most football wins? I've been using foufseasonsfootball site to tally up what town has the most wins, and so far it looks like Big Stone Gap has the most wins by a town in SWVA. Hampton leads overall with 808, but in SWVA it's BSG. PV went 401-166-15 Big Stone High went 193-91-22 Union has went 68-20 So total, BSG has 662 wins, 277 losses and 37 ties. There's no records for Shoemaker, maybe GC could surpass them. But I also didn't include East Stone Gap High despite basically being in Big Stone. I know Shoemaker had kids from Hiltons and stuff, it stands to reason we could include ESG and their 83 wins. But as it stands, BSG looks to be the leader. If you combined BSG and Appy, you get 1,234 wins. That's over a thousand wins in a ten mile radius. Pretty incredible. And why is their no record for Haysi from 1931-59?

    Most wins by town

No. That was the Tazewell County High Warhawks building until it changed to the junior high. My grandmother told me that their school sat up on the side of the hill until they got the new (TCHS) built.

    8 Man Football

Mark wants the coaches to keep the kids interested by playing them all. That also is some of the problem at lower levels that you touched on, some coaches want to pick the best players and not teach let’s say your worst 10. You have to teach all the kids and let them have fun along the way.

Genoa was the Junior high (7-9) and Park Central was the high school. Unless Genoa was the high school before Park Central. In Bluefield, Virginia, my grandmother graduated from Graham Colored High school in 1944 which was in our neighborhood before Tazewell County High.

From my understanding, Central was in Appalachia. When the building that presently houses the police station and water department in BSG was built, that school was Bland. The mascot for both was Buffalos. Here’s a link from the SWVA Museum: http://www.swvamuseum.org/AfricanAmericanSchools.html

I have to agree with FoxTrot just because... Maybe someone at Tazewell should talk to him...

@Bluefield researcher told me that there was a black high school In BSG. I think he might’ve said it was called “Wise County High” ? Park Central was the name of the black school in Bluefield, WV. There was a black school in Bluefield, VA too, it was called Tazewell County High, the “Warhawks.”

    8 Man Football

It’s not the same, your missing skill positions. If you have 18 players come out and you have 14 that are flag football players than you shouldn’t field a 8 man team either. Some schools are having trouble fielding girls basketball teams. Would you watch 3on 3 in b-ball

    After The Whistle

After the whistle is in reference to all three coaches doing commentary, "after the whistle," or after they stopped coaching.

I have watched and coached 8 man. I will not attend 8 man football. If it comes down to it, my Friday nights will be free.

    2018 SWVA Sports Pick’Em

And we’re back! We should all know the rules by now, but if you are new, here ya go: 1. One point per correct pick. 2. There will be a Game of the Week (GotW), with 3 points awarded for correctly picking the winner, and an additional 2 points up for grabs if you guess the correct combined score as well. There may be dual GotWs, so there are points to be had here. 3. Each weekly winner will auto-qualify for the SWVA Sports Pick'Em Playoffs 4. There will be a weekly running total kept to settle the "wild card" spots. This also seeds those who have won a week as well. 5. Tiebreakers are as follows: A: Correct GotW pick B: Closest to combined score, without going over. 😄 If both go over, closest to the correct score. 😧 If same score is picked, there will be a number picked 1-10. The number will be flowed through a reliable 3rd party poster (GMan), and whoever is closest to that number wins. We've never came down to tiebreaker D, but I guess it's good to have it before it happens. I will post the week 1 games on Monday, August 13th. That gives everyone 2 weeks to think on their week one picks. Remember, someone locks themselves into the playoffs in week 1. Good luck this year!!!

    Honest question

We never know what tomorrow holds. I've hated Georgetown for 46 years, but now I'm following everything they do. He definitely thrives when he's doubted.
