  1. Did they change after each play or each series? Or did the offensive team get the cleats while the other team played in socks? Or was it the defensive team that wore the cleats? Did they change by position? That would suck if you were a wide receiver who wore a size 9 and the opposing wide receiver wore a size 13. And this begs the question, why couldn’t Richlands or Salem afford their own cleats? Why did they have to wear the same cleats? And how in the hell did one of these teams make the playoffs playing an entire season without cleats? This needs to be an entire podcast episode, like a 30for30 or something

    Lebanon vs Graham

I know from friends I have that are Graham supporters, they love the coach and he relates to them well. That in itself can be the problem. Just like with parenting, you have to draw the line at being to much friend and have rules and discipline that isn't always popular.

IMO, a lifetime ban from coaching and unable to attend any games for a year.

  5. Piggy backing off of the fantasy team convo from weeks past, if you were building a coaching staff made up of current coverage area coaches, who do you pick? You have to choose a head coach, OC, DC and Special Teams coach.

  6. I call a spade a spade my friend. Believe me, I have the upmost respect for Coach Palmer and what he has done with our program since he has taken over. We have gone from a team that was getting scheduled for everyone's homecoming, to a team that is a threat every year. But it doesn't take Lee Corso to tell us that this team is undisciplined. That doesn't mean these young men are causing trouble or are not good upstanding young adults. It means their emotions get the best of them on the field. Great players and teams learn to channel that emotion and use it productively instead of negatively.

They'll score 50 of that in the first half. They may actually get to 60 by halftime. They are otherworldly good.

    Fight?

Youth league administrators need to stomp (no pun intended) this culture out by having a zero tolerance policy. Empower the officials to eliminate morons and toss their butt out of the game. If you eject them and they refuse to leave, forfeit the game or call the police. Nothing better to set the example than seeing a turd wearing a pair of Smith and Wesson's to the back of the cruiser. Gotta have someone with a pair of balls to say "not on my watch."

Same for #11. He's quick and doesn't run scared. On kickoffs they just need to put #2 and #11 back there and let them have at it.

    What would happen?

The 72 Vikings manhandled all local teams. Elizabethton was the closest to being competitive with the Vikings in the regular season. THS went on to absolutely massacre teams in the playoffs, from areas like Knoxville and Chattanooga, and won what was considered a National Title back then. This Greeneville team is that level of special.

  24. Making a statement about a team needing more discipline does not mean someone wants Palmer's job. When you go back to when he took over, the football program was on life support. At that time there was zero drive to win. I can fully understand there was a definite need for "attitude" if you will. I just think in big games it will cost them with the mental errors.

    2018 MLB Thread

Where to begin? I firmly believe Joe's quirkiness is an asset over 162 games. But when the season gets condensed into a short playoff series or a win-or-go-home situation, it becomes a distinct disadvantage. And it may cost him his job! Rumor is pretty high that Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are already speaking to Joe Girardi, Mark DeRosa and David Ross. In my opinion, David Ross is the ideal candidate if a change is made. Girardi doesn't fit the personnel of the club and DeRosa isn't Ross to the current Cubs clubhouse. When Dave Martinez left the Cubs following last season to become the manager of the Nats, Joe demanded taking that opportunity to hire "his guys" to surround him as coaches. He brought in Chili Davis and Jim Hickey. As a result, the batting and pitching statistics tanked from previous seasons. As another Cub fan said last night, "Boston fired Chili Davis last season, look at how their offense responded this season!"

Evidently you have not seen Greeneville play, they are the best high school team I have seen in Northeast Tennessee ever. They have everything you want 4 D1 commits and several other small college players on that roster. UVA will love Dorrian Goddard the WR. They play at Sullivan South Friday, they will score 60 on South.

  28. Who would win a fictional matchup? That 2001 John Battle team that scored a whopping total of 24 points over the course of a season (6 shutouts), or the 2006 Craig County team that scored a massive 32 points over the course of a season (6 shutouts). Also, the worst team in SWVA history? Also, how badly would that team destroy Jenkins, KY?

  29. I don't know how practices are run but there is the old adage, you play on Friday night how you practice Monday through Thursday. This season the team as a whole is undisciplined. They are racking up penalties like frequent flyer miles. Missed tackles upon missed tackles, not sticking to assignments, etc. I hate to see with the talent they have not go as far as they can in playoffs. If they could get their act together, I have no doubt they could compete with anyone in the playoffs. I'm hoping to see improvements the second half of the season.

    Old Richlands controversy

You tend to troll under certain conditions on Preps or at least blindly follow others who do. I certainly hope your intentions are above board here. You may get to meet Ryan if they aren’t. This thread has the potential to go off the rails very quickly. Richlands used cleats deemed too long by VHSL to beat Salem in 1992. I believe they were 3/4 inch cleats. I have heard Salem wore the same cleats but that part gets conveniently forgotten.

    Lebanon vs Graham

They've got the talent to be great but the coaches need to reign those boys in big time. Unsportsmanlike conduct like Cam Allen's last week is ridiculous! Actions like that need to be sat down on sidelines Cam Allen or whomever. Just my humble opinion, others might disagree.

Coaches and AD's can't increase funding and number of volunteers to make rural rescue and fire departments possible. They are overwhelmed as it is and they volunteer to do it. Not directed toward anyone in-particular but if you're not volunteering to go into a situation everyone else is running away from, you should probably not complain about those who do!

  44. Here's my prediction. 1 or 2 unsportsmanlike penalties, 4 or 5 offsides, false start, or face mask penalties. Trip down memory lane to our pee wee offense on our way to 49-14 win. The two additional players should be a big help.

    Fight?

This is not only the case in sports but in every aspect of life in 2018. The my way and my way only attitude is ingrained into society. From politics to pee wee sports there is no exception, no middle ground or working for a compromise that will benefit all. This is what happens when you teach a generation that their wants, needs, preferences and feelings are most important no matter what the cost. I can name sports program after program where some parents prefer losing just as long as little Johnny or Susie gets their playing time and all the sideline coaches have it their way. As far as grown men acting like children, a permanent ban from the sideline and stadium all the way to the high school level should be the punishment. It would go a long way in stopping this idiocy.

    Fight?

I’m very well aware of that fact. I’m only referring to the programs as they refer to themselves, Central Warriors and Clintwood Wolfpack. My insinuation was not to reflect on Coach Owens or Mullins, but to the little league organizations themselves. Some that are not as in the loop as we are will gloss over and paint all football represented under one banner though and there is no changing those folks minds. That is why I said there needs to be serious examination of all that represent their community on any level of football or any sport for that matter.

    Fight?

The game was well in hand for Wise, and one coach standing on the field was jawing with the Clintwood staff essentially the entire fourth quarter. The game was stopped once to tell them to cool it, but the jawing and trash talk from BOTH sides was prominent. Cooler heads did not prevail and adults from both sides decided their own personal pride was more important than the youth they a supposedly serving, and providing leadership for a few days a week. As someone stated above, this is the second MAJOR issue in two years with RV, and I’ve seen it escalate a few times other than those incidents as well. Their bad apples right now are really making it tough for the good ones (and there are wayyyy more great folks over there than not so great), to shine. The culture definitely needs to focus on who they allow to represent them in a public setting. Sure you’re going to have loud mouths everywhere, but a serious adjustment needs to be made, especially with a great program on the rise.
