The diehard Union fans have all given a fair assessment of their team. It's the 2nd round of the playoffs, no team is exactly a dumpster fire at this point. May the best team win!

Sometimes there are really, really good players that will play on Saturdays, on average to below average high school teams. Take Dalton Mullins from Wise, last year. Spent his senior year on a team that struggled, he was injured, then came back and had a good showing at the VHSCA All-Star game, and is now at Carson-Newman(I think). Some excellent football players become afterthoughts in our region when they don’t play for one of the powerhouse programs. EDIT: I’ve never been a huge fan of debating who the “Best Football Player” in an area is. Best at a position or best athlete seems like a better discussion. Just because someone is a great RB, doesn’t mean that they would be any good as a LT. No disrespect to the OP, just my two cents.

This makes more sense. I knew that they would bring Colley in for the pass attack. I mean he was an offensive genius. Good thing they have a Haysi boy as the QB I mean Colley's offense was probably bread into him.

Agree with most of this. I know school size is a factor, but it wasn't a big of an issue in the old Highlands district (dating myself with that, I know). Those teams beat bigger schools on a routine basis.

Ridgeview has one of those nice fields like Richlands and Mitchell Stadium have...ain't like your playing at Clintwood or Haysi...or BSG for that matter...

I'm probably going to this one Friday night. Either this or Boyle Co at Belfry. I was at the Anderson - Greeneville game last year. Greeneville started really flat and Anderson got out to a 21-0 lead in the first before Greeneville got rolling and outscored them 35-10 the last 3 quarters.

Everyone knows the rollercoaster of a season that Giles had this year. Low numbers, multiple injuries, young athletes, too much team drama and a senior class that didn’t show much leadership. Tonight’s loss put Giles at 5-6, making it the first losing season the Spartans have had since 1987. I am struggling to process all this, which I guess is normal being a spoiled ass fan and expecting my team to win 8+ games a year....but I’m excited for the years to come as I envision Giles will become a threat once again! I will spend the next 4 weeks bouncing around from county to county to watch everyone else that’s left!

Graham will not "roll" in this game. If this game was being played at Mitchell, I would say Graham by two tds, but this is at Union. I will say, Graham did end up winning big on Saturday, but there were times when they looked rough and back to their old ways like the beginning of the season. Graham has the same mental block with Union like they did Richlands meaning they have lost the game in their heads before they even step foot onto the field. The only way to cure that is to win the game. Graham is peaking at the right time but what I saw on Saturday scared me. If Graham plays a complete game physically but most of all mentally, Graham will win this game but it is not going to be a blow out like everyone is saying. Graham 21 Union 16

What I find funny is that "G-star" only comes out to play when Graham plays Union...I find that rather odd...just sayin'...

Unless it pours the rain all week it should be fine i don’t know how much the field got torn up against battle but unless it is sloppy mess I don’t see Graham having any issues running around

They were picked as the preseason favorite for the M7 by many on this board, and plenty of us called them being the 1 seed in 2D. To me, they are exactly what I thought they’d be.

I’m not exactly happy to see a bunch of Graham people coming out of the woodwork talking smack. This is the very last thing this particular team needs.

PH is way better than Grundy, and Grundy ran at will on Burton.

I have heard how Sorry Union is , how Graham is going to score whenever they want , I guess by halftime the cheerleaders will be playing. I call bullsh&@ , Union has won 9 games this year, no one has given us nothing, I heard the same line last year “there is no way a one dimensional team like Union will beat Graham” well they did. This is a different team with many many new faces. Does Graham have a great team????, at the first of the year we heard how bad they were. by their fans. We have a tough game but everyone knew that the championship for D would have Graham envolved . So let’s Quit bitching about the fact we don’t run the spread and throw every down , we areUnion and we run the Rock, we will hit you in the mouth, and we have faced MW of Tennessee and they threw a lot (thank God for those penalties)My point is this , this team reminds me so much of the 1982 Powell Valley championship team , full of no names , no superstars, just kids going to work everyday , and yes these kids have seen this board because I have spoken to several

I have not seen Burton play but I know PH is pretty solid upfront on the offensive line. When you have the ability to move people against their will especially in a cold playoff that goes a long way in getting a win. I know PH is far from stout on defense but it’s hard to consistently throw the ball in the cold I would go PH by 2 scores

42 may be just a little off but I think it will be close to that, give or take a couple of points. Midway through the season Grundy hung 31 points on Burton. PH put 23 points on the board against Chilhowie and Chilhowie has a stout D even without the 2 starters they were missing. I think PH's back field is a bit better than Grundy as far as the running backs. Burton is talented and has grown up since the beginning of the season. I just think PH will wear down the D. Just my opinion.

Exactly as agreed in the original post. Of course, my familiarity of him is strictly through his tweets re: sports. I'm not familiar with his writings but no doubt he's highly respected. I've followed his 'great state' tweets through the years and would be laughing my head off with his subtle humor, also, warming was his love for 'little unit' on display. Since I had commented on him , I thought I should mention others who are also great resources for me in pulling/posting scores, etc., thus my expanding the list.
