  1. All this board needs is another childish wanna be who results to name calling to attempt to make a point. Grow up, learn to have a conversation and then maybe we’ll keep talking sports. Until then I got nothing for you. Our conversations are about CURRENT sports, if you want to blow smoke about what a coach did 10 years ago start another thread and have a good conversation with yourself. The Bears are playing well, we all are happy about that. I’m sure as hell not going to bow down to some guy who just joined this board and pretend your are the guru of Union basketball.

  2. The morning of the state championship game many people gathered behind the high school to show support for the team. Among them was Tony with his infectious smile. He made the trip to Salem to support Graham. After the game he was on the field living it up with his friends celebrating the Graham win. Had he not been wearing a Beaver jacket one would have thought he was a Graham Gman like everyone else. When Graham played at Giles this year, there he was supporting Graham again. I hope Bluefield will retire the #5 in his honor. Whoever the fortunate person is that received his heart, you got yourself a heart of a champion.

  3. I doubt anyone on this board plays basketball for UHS so we don’t win or lose. Those kids (my own included) work their ass off and could care less about some blow hard hiding behind a keyboard talking about whatever glory days they may try to live in. If you come to a message board to get your opinion validated or ego stroked you may need a new hobby.

I want to personally thank all of you guys for your well wishes for our family. I know that Shelly and Slick and Uncle Ronnie and Aunt Ella greatly appreciate everything that the community has done and is doing to honor Tony. Please continue to keep the Blevins and Webster families in your thoughts. I can honestly say, that he is absolutely the best kid that I have ever been associated with. I may be a little bias but I have never in my life seen a kid that is always smiling, up-beat and as positive as Tony was. It definitely shows is how the communities of Mercer and Tazewell as well as surrounding counties have come together to honor such a wonderful young man. May he rest in peace and never be forgotten!!

D-B needs a program overhaul from the ground up, and right now, the talent level in the middle schools is pretty low. Robinson and Sevier won 1 game between them last season, and that was Sevier beating Robinson. D-B lost several linemen, a competent, experienced QB, and arguably the region's best RB from last year.

They have a tremendous basketball coach, he will do great things if left alone..If...I believe that Christian was the back up plan when the coach they really wanted backed out on them...

  7. I'm glad they're FINALLY doing this. Imagine the games that would've been televised if they had done this 20-30 years ago.

A guy that I work with at the Big E always refers to him as "our Akers". There's no doubt DB could become a monster if he ever made that decision, but I honestly don't think he will. He wants to be a Dad and that's very understandable. That's not to say they won't load up the Brinks truck and head that way in the future...lol

  9. When I was a junior at Bluefield High in 1979 we lost one of my friends and a great person at football practice. His name was Stanley Neal. Stanley started feeling poorly at practice and asked to get a drink of water. He was granted permission (which was not normal then) and collapsed at the water spigot. He died that night. He was just a Junior. His number 77 was the first jersey to ever be retired. Only the number 17 of Jay Sims has since been retired.

I will take that bet. He won't be coaching at DB or anywhere else for at least 5 years, as Ryan stated above, he is going to take time to be a dad. He also has twin girls in 7th or 8th grade I believe and nothing will happen before they are graduate. He is deeply rooted in the Greeneville community and no matter how much money The University of Kingsport throws at him he ain't coaching for a while...DB made their bed with Christian and you know the rest!
