I hate to see him go he brought the spread offense to Marion and was successful with it and it was fun to watch. The coach wright days was run the ball up the middle constantly and it got old real quick. I hope the new guy comes in with an offensive mind like Carroll has.

For what it's worth, Carroll is leaving Marion at #3 on the all-time wins column, behind #1Bill Earp and #2 Steve Wright, both of whom had longer tenures. He also has the record for most playoff appearances and playoff victories, and is third in win percentage since World War II behind Moe Weaver and Bill Earp. Not bad considering the shape the program was in when he took over, and the fact that the school was at its lowest enrollment since the 50s under his tenure.

So, if Machado and Harper are worth $300 million plus, does that mean whoever signs Trout to his next deal will just sign the franchise over to him? He would have to be worth a billion, right?

I would be surprised if a hire didn't come from within the program, or at least from within the county, just based on the school's track record and how quiet they are keeping things. I hate to see Carroll go, though. He was probably the best coach in terms of consistency that Marion has had since the Bill Earp/ Moe Weaver days of the 60s and 70s, with his only real competition being Steve Wright (good company to have). Even in down years, you knew you were going to have your hands full when Marion came to town. But I don't fault him at all; virtually any move would be a more ideal situation than working in Smyth County and dealing with the extracurriculars that have been tacked onto the program the past couple of years. If there's one thing that's for certain, Person gained a quality coach and all around good guy, and I hope he can turn their fortunes around.

The stats of two MLB players next to a perfectly engineered baseball cyborg. Harper: 7.5 WAR Machado: 16.1 WAR Trout: 27.3 WAR (2016, 17, & 18 seasons)

  6. I take a lot of shots at Wise, but even I have the utmost respect for Dotson and what he's done over a sustained period. For a LPD school Mount Rushmore, it's hard to not include him with the other all time greats. Doing it continually and winning titles with such different casts and players against some of the most intense competition in his division, all while being the ultimate class act, he's in a league of his own. He deserves more respect.

Hard to keep coaches in Smyth County when you can 10-15 miles either way on 81 and get a 5 to 10 thousand dollar pay raise.
