  1. I saw one of the Keene boys officiating some games in Roanoke a year or so ago, so he's at least been around the game for a while.
  2. Former player with Emory Ties.....Thad Wells fits that bill lol Also: Cain Ringstaff, Caleb Jennings, Jeremy Keene, Josh Keene, I'm sure their are others but those just came to my head.
  3. With Bath Co. schedule and returning the QB who accounted for 50 touchdowns they'll probably end the season as one of the top seeds again....then probably get beat by a MED team first round.
  4. Finally someone with some sense. I agree 100% with all of this. Great year for Radford, can’t take anything away from them, but end of the day RH is better and has been preparing for state games almost a decade, this week will be like any week this time of year for RH. In Radford it’ll be all kinds of commotion and people talking about this and that and what ifs. In RH it’s just practice as normal and greasing the wheels. Been there done that.
  5. One would think they'd want to move pretty quick and actually name someone before school lets out for Christmas break. That would give the new person the opportunity to get some planning done over the break so when school starts back they can hit the weight room and other workouts with the new guys system laid out. Just depends if TCPS cares about any of that.
  6. I know Floyd Co doesn't technically fall within what is considered SWVA on the map at the top of the page, however, I feel like this is something everyone would appreciate and a coaching career that seems to have lasted forever and a tenure we might not see again for a while.
  7. Maybe someone should scrounge around and see what Mark Dixon is up to these days. I know he stepped down at Pulaski for heath concerns....maybe those have subsided and he's ready to rebuild somewhere like he did at Galax. Now that would obviously intel that people leave him alone, give him the keys to the car and get the heck out of the way. Just a thought, but heck who knows he may be on a beach somewhere enjoying his NFL pension.
  8. I'm not sure "quality 1A teams" are comparable to Radford, Glenvar, and Graham. Yes, they lost all 3 of those games, but not sure if beating Rye Cove, PH, and Holston are comparable. The one that stands out to me is giving up 51 points to Narrows; which Galax did gave up 56 to Radford....but once again Narrows doesn't quite compare to Radford. The game might be close till halftime or mid 3rd, but in the end I think Galax ground pounds the ball and pulls away. Galax=take snap, hand to RB, get down hill. HHS=get good shotgun snap while blocking a nose, all OL make a good block without holding, QB make the right read (probably under pressure), make a good throw, catch and secure the ball, get up field; that's a lot in 1 play. I know they've done it all season and done it well. However, this isnt a normal game and normal circumstances. Galax by 2 TDs.
  9. https://breakingmuscle.com/welcome-to-college-athletics-a-letter-from-your-strength-coach/ Found this article several years ago and always suggest it to young guys who say they want to go play at the next level. From my college playing experience its point on.
  10. This is normal at pretty much everywhere. You take a kid whos been a "stud" at his high school and throw him in with 80-100, "studs" from their high school and the cream rises to the top very quickly. A majority of them cant handle that nor the 13-14 hour days of football for the school year and then the expectations of what you are supposed to do during the summer to show at camp in shape and ready to roll. Lastly, most cant handle college education, they don't know how to study and do work on their own. College professors don't care if you are a football player and have little to no time to do work or study; zero time management for a lot of freshman. A lot flunk out or quit school after 1 semester. My freshman class at E&H on day 1 was around 90 to 100 on senior day it was 18.
  11. Coach Grande was a top notch guy, coached myself and older brother. He is currently at Iowa State doing big things with their coaching staff. Coached at E&H and Ferrum; tough lose for VA high school guys moving on to the next level.
  12. So Akers is going to Richlands or maybe Jack Turner?
  13. I agree with everything above, weak schedule....yes, won handedly.....also, yes, are they good....yes-ish. From what I've seen on film and in person is the QB is a very, very good athlete. He can make people look very silly and makes big plays in key situation. While he defiantly helps carry them and keep them moving forward, I would argue their defense is also very good. I wouldn't say they have a single "stud" on defense, but what they do have is balls to the wall aggression, every single play. All 11 guys fly around the football and play through the while, which in D1 is rare and causes a lot of issues for teams. They have adopted the defensive scheme to bring at least 1 or 2 more than you can block and try and stop you before you ever get going; and they do a dang good job of it. Tonight should be interesting though because Narrows spreads it out and gets rid of the ball quickly out in space. So if Bath rushes 6 or 7 on each play that means they better have some "sure" tackling when the pass is complete; one missed tackle and the WR could be gone. DO they change their defense this week because of Narrows style; I doubt it, its lead them this far, but I do think Narrows will have a lot of success throwing the ball. I also think Baths QB will make some big plays as Narrows defense isn't the greatest. I also, think playing at home for Bath is another advantage; its a long bus ride to the top of the mountain no matter where your coming from. In the end however, I see Narrows making a couple stops and winning the game by a score or 2.
