  1. Congratulations to the Team!! It was a nice thought to believe Coach Akers' former kicking expertise had anything to do with the exceptional pressure packed field goal to win the game. But, it was the Team who gave Gate City the chance to win at the end. Another no quit performance by the Gate City Team on the road. It looked bleak again when Lee High completed a 72 yard touchdown pass play with 2:43 left to go and taking the momentum with the game tying two point conversation. However, the no quit Blue Devils moved the length of the field with only one timeout with a combination of running and passing plays putting them in a position to win with a super kick at the end with only one second on the clock. Both the offense and defense overall played well. The Team had 309 yards of offense with 239 yards of rushing along with 19 first downs and only one punt.
  2. I am always for Gate City. Fear the Veer!!
  3. Grapeape is not for the Gate City kids. His first statement when he started this topic proves his real intent. And I quote, "Word is that the GC coaches have guaranteed victory! 😂". Who would put that online if you wanted your team to win? Everyone knew the game might be close and he just wanted to stir up the other team and give them motivation. He does not want Gate City to win. His only intent is to harass, bully, discriminate and give retaliation to Coach Akers.
  4. Gate City had 265 of rushing, 197 yards of passing, 16 first downs and only one punt in their lost to Marion. Yes, they did have 9 fumbles and lost 2 of these at critical times in the first half. However, with the offense they play, split back veer, which is option football the chance for fumbling is greater than other offenses. Even in their lost to Ridgeview, Gate City moved the ball with a player who rushed for over a hundred yards. In other games they came out ready to play and took leads against both Abingdon and Sullivan South who are larger schools. I have not seen any quit this year in Gate City in any player or coach. Next to Richlands, they play the toughest 2A schedule in the region and every week they come out and do their best. Hats off to Marion, for making an incredible play at the end of an exciting game.
  5. Collier from Gate City will be a four year starter this year.
