Let me have the Cats in an upset - VA High has played in close games all year, Chilhowie’s combined opponent record is 7-16 and they haven’t been tested. We are forgetting VA High only trailed 5A Tennessee by 7 going into the 4th quarter plus they are coming off a bye. Should be a close one - I think we have another shootout with a big special teams play by VA High being the difference: Cats 38 Warriors 30 this will be the second WCYB Game Night VA High has been a part of - will the game be broadcast on tv? If not how can someone keep up?

Yea I listened on WDIC just like @Bearcat Dad, was a hoot, those two should do a podcast talking about the old days of SWVA Football, they missed a lot of plays but it was funny to listen. Wouldn’t trade for Bearcat Radio guys either, I believe they are the class of local radio football coverage (even though I am a cat), they aren’t biased and call it like they see it, I would enjoy and listen if those guys did Richlands games haha

This just came to mind about the first 4 weeks of football - but how confident are we in the area’s best teams in 2A? I listened to the Ridgeview-Union game on the radio last week and it sounded quite sloppy for two blue-blood programs, was it just big-game nerves or have the turnovers and mental mistakes been commonplace? I know Richlands is playing tough competition right now and played well against Union but are they more similar to the Richlands of old, or to last years squad? I cannot comment on Graham, don’t know them...As a Bearcat follower I have been disappointed in their lack of ability to close out games, they have been up by 20 or more in 2 of the 3 wins (exception being Battle) - depth is a serious concern for them, beating TAZ,Battle, and Wise by 1 or 2 possessions doesn’t bode well when they have to go to Chilhowie, host Abingdon, host Graham in weeks following the bye...plus Richlands awaits them in week 10... Which teams should press the panic button? And where are we in the battle of district supremacy - Southwest vs. Mountain Seven...again don’t take too seriously what I mean by panic - just trying to create discussion to a thought I had... thanks

Love this idea! We don’t get a lot of 1A talk on here...I like the “close game” discussion too, especially for under the radar games! Thanks I think Patrick Henry should beat JSB in a close one, I have heard the athleticism of PH’s playmakers is impressive for 1A standards, and probably good for 2A...plus according to JB radio, PH has a big line...the question will be if the Rebels can handle the pressure of playing on the road for 2A Battle’s homecoming... the game will be won on the line of scrimmage with these ground and pound offenses, both defenses will give up big plays - I expect the scoring to be higher than anticipated Plus Patrick Henry has scored 48 or more in their last 3 contests...

Wise Central, Virginia High, and Ridgeview should still be the top 3 teams to represent SWVA from Region 2D... Coach Dotson always has Wise Central as a state contender... I know VA High best, and Coach Timmons is a great coach, has quickly rebuilt the program...reaching the state semifinals for the 4th time in school history. They lost one starter from the 2017 squad, a post presence but have young posts to fit there. 3 seniors; PG Amaya Lee (2nd team all state & 1st team all Southwest District), SF Taylor Owens (1st team all state & Southwest District Player of the Year), SG Jada Campbell (2nd team All-SWD)...Jr. Ale Sydnor is a playmaker as well, can play anywhere from 1-4... Ridgeview is always talented out of M7...don’t know much about them but a good bet they will be in postseason... If I’m not mistaken, the cycle will allow SWD Champ to host Region Tournament...since M7 champion did last year...so if VHS can take care of business in district they could host region at the Bearcat Den, possibly till State...
