  1. You explained what I was as getting at. I think baseball vs. soccer is a personal preference and you’ll have a hard time changing anyone’s mind on the subject. I only became a soccer fan a few years ago but I’m hooked now. It takes a while to learn it to the point that you understand it. And if you’re only watching SWVA high school soccer it’s going to take you much longer. Ultimately I enjoy the fast pace and the strategy of the game. Nothing is wrong with being a baseball fan. I, as I imagine most everyone else here did, grew up watching and playing it. Somewhere in the mid 2000’s I lost interest in it and haven’t been able to pick it back up. I think mainly it’s just hard for me to commit to all the down time that takes place during the games. so given the choice I would choose to watch a soccer match over most baseball games. Just preference. Soccer is gaining a lot of traction in the USA currently. If you’re even thinking of giving it a chance now is a great time. Arguably the greatest player to ever play is now playing in Miami and playing in the MLS which has helped the image of the league to help recruit higher level players to America. Stadiums around the country are opening up their stadiums for international friendlies which is bringing some of the top talent in the world within driving distance of us. The player that most people consider to be the best current player in the world is going to play a match in Charlotte this summer. Plus we will have the World Cup here in 2026. Give it a chance if you haven’t yet.
  2. A lot of good football players in our area are also soccer players. If I was a football coach I would encourage my players to play soccer. The conditioning and physicality of it translates well.
  3. Gofundme charges a pretty standard 2.9% for the credit card transaction plus $0.30 cents. example: If you donate $100 to a Gofundme campaign then the recipient would get $96.80. As crowdsourcing goes, they are one of the lowest when it comes to fees. They obviously net a lot of money for theirselves because of the volume they receive being #1 in the industry but that is a trade off you take for using a well known & safe platform. If you can donate at First Sentinel bank then I would encourage that but if you can’t make it then I’d also encourage to use the Gofundme. They can use all the help they can get right now.
  4. Why all the coaching changes?
  5. That would be a really big back yard.
  6. Soccer is a sport you have to experience in person to really appreciate it. I’d encourage anyone to make the trip to Charlotte to watch a MLS match. Tickets are affordable and the atmosphere is worth the trip alone.
  7. Yes, that was last year. Made national news. A Graham vs. VA High match last season also was ended early on the recommendation of the Bristol Police Department.
  8. If you think soccer isn’t interesting then you haven’t attended a match. There is always something interesting going on during SWVA soccer, whether its on the field or in the stands.
  9. McAmis is very fun to watch. She was just that much better than everyone on the floor.
  10. Everything you said is true. But other than the D1 seniors that you mentioned Princeton only had a couple more than actually contributed. They’ll be returning the majority of starters next season and will have the benefit of a much more even playing field in the playoffs. Bluefield/Princeton/Graham have been sharing kids around for years with Princeton usually coming up on the shorter end of all of the moves. However, Princeton has gotten the better of Bluefield over the last few years. That helps them from losing kids to Bluefield & with a kid of Jennings’ caliber leaving Graham to go back to Princeton I’d imagine that will hurt the Princeton —-> Graham pipeline. Now they have the benefit of having a young energetic coach, multiple kids playing division 1 and a taste of success. And finally it seemed like the community has really rallied behind them. Hunnicutt is a big stadium and they were filling up the home stands. Usually I would be on your side on all of this but I believe Princeton has had the perfect storm of events go their way in the last 6 months. I’m weirdly optimistic that they have turned the corner.
  11. You are correct. That is the rule. I was responding to someone who said Clements situation was the same as Jennings. It wasn’t.
  12. Clements played his freshman year at Mount View so that is not the same situation as Jennings.
  13. With WV going to 4 classes next year Princeton has a legitimate shot to win a state title. They won’t have to deal with Martinsburg anymore.
  14. The old Mountain Mission gym was something to see a game in
  15. Did Gobble graduate from Battle?
  16. Because there isn’t a swva player of the year

  18. Conflict of interest - Shaq owns many Five Guys restaurants. if you want a wild rabbit hole to go down, google what all companies Shaquille O’Neal has ownership in. It includes The General & Brooks Brothers, as well as the rights to Marilyn Monroe’s likeness, plus countless other things you probably wouldn’t expect.
