  1. just to say, im not really big on taz like everyone else is... if they beat graham and richlands then ill think they are as good as ppl say... but the game against carroll county i watched i didnt think there d was that good and richlands should throw all over them... pauley is the biggest threat on offense in my opinion... but i think richlands will pass all over taz... tazs rush d didnt look to great to me against carroll because i thought carroll was weak, which is why i think with grahams line and speed at running back that graham also has a great shot at beating them... i could be wrong but thats just what i think.... plus its at richlands who i thought played good against graham after starting off bad, so im gonna give richlands a 2 td win on this one... but good luck to both teams ill be watching and i hope taz proves me wrong and wins this one...
  2. im a graham fan but that aint cheap, yeah some bluefield ppl are whinning on here about everything and honestly i dont blame them... but as far as lilly taken someones knees out, THATS FOOTBALL, hell should we play 2 hand touch? fans wanna see hits, players wanna hit... so let them hit, if he aint pulling a face mask or horse collaring someone or just something extremely dirty then nothing is wrong with the tackle... you are taught (well should be taught but the art has been lost over the years especially in college) to tackle at the legs and wrap up... as far as coming in and taken someones legs out, thats what you do, i mean thats just smart on lillys part, if he would of went for the waist the guy could of slipped the tackle so why even take a chance? im sure he wanted to drill the person to but like i said ITS FOOTBALL quit trying to turn it into powder puff football...
  3. i just love how there were 2 defensive stops at the goal line back to back in the last 2-3mins of the game... i mean that doesn't happen to often and in that big of a rivalry it made it even better... but if not kicking the field goal... why not run a roll out passing play giving cole the option to pass or run it in that way he could at least stop the clock if they didnt catch the ball so they would of had another chance since it was 1st down... im sorry but this is **MY OPINION** why would you run a qb sneak when grahams dline is bigger and stronger and one of grahams strengths instead of taken it to them another way? i mean i dont think that last play made any sense unless he was trying to catch them off guard because if you dont get in the clocks out game over, at least throw the ball giving yourself possibly 2 chances, or even more kick the field goal... but either way it would of ended, hell of a game, i expected it to be closer then what ppl were saying but i didnt expect graham to come on top...
  4. im just curious cause i didnt see anything posted about it... but graham won by 2... so the field goal would of won it (obvious statement i know) but why didnt they kick the field goal? and to the person that said 11,000 ppl saw cole cross the goal line because grahams fans died and bluefields went crazy... grahams fans didnt see him cross the line we were trying to see what they called it because it was obviously close and we werent sure what had happened because no refs were showing a td sign so we thought he didnt cross... but HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL NEEDS INSTANT REPLAY NOW haha baseball is getting it now in the pros so how long before high school football gets it lol
  5. well all i gotta say is that bluefield stopping graham at the goal line with about 2 mins left, then driving down field after almost throwing an int to jeffers(i think) who was one of his better friends at graham that dropped it, then getting to the goal line again for a defensive stop by graham this time with jeffers redeming himself by coming out with the ball... what could be a more exciting ending then that? but honestly i dont know if Will lost the ball before he crossed the goal line or not, but the guy who said bluefield had no push on the oline i think was a little off because i was right there on the goal line front row watching it and bluefield had the push so it looked and me and all my friends figured it was over with a bluefield win until jeffers came out with the ball... we dont know if the refs made the right call or not, but they should of made a call a little sooner rather than looking around at each other so that it wouldnt of looked as bad... im sure bluefield fans will complain about it for a while and i cant say id blame them if it happend the other way around i would to... but come on somebody has to lose the game no matter how good of a game it is...
  6. oh, didnt know that, i thought they won there last 2 games, i didnt know they played 3... my bad lol...
  7. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] It's pretty screwed up when two lowly teams such as Graham and Marion make the regionals, but a team such as Pulaski is sitting at home. The Virginia system needs an overhaul... [/ QUOTE ] I think its sad that any team from the SWD makes the Regionals... [/ QUOTE ] Why? [/ QUOTE ] Because the SWD teams are TERRIBLE. Here's a bit of food for thought... Abingdon, the SWD champion, lost to Pulaski Co., who didn't even qualify for the Region tournament, by 41 earlier in the season. Carroll Co., the SWD tournament champion, squeaked by Patrick Co. of the Piedmont District by 10 and four this season. Patrick Co. lost to 3-17 Tunstall in the Piedmont tournament play-in game. Patrick Co. also lost to Martinsville by 29 and Bassett by 37 during the regular season. Martinsville lost to Blacksburg by 38 earlier this year, just for comparative purposes. Graham already had a taste of Bassett earlier in the year and lost by 33 and it wasn't that close as Bassett pulled its starters in the 2nd quarter. Bassett and Martinsville split their two regular season matchups. Hidden Valley beat Region III, Seminole District Champion Brookville (19-4) twice this season by 21 and 32, respectively. Region III, Blue Ridge District Champion, Lord Botetourt, lost to Martinsville, Salem, and Blacksburg (twice). [/ QUOTE ] usually i agree with you on things here lately but not this... but thats why you have a tournament to play cause anyone can win on any given day... did graham not beat grundy and marion the past 2 nights? they have been showing life here lately and the end of the season runs is what matters, ill agree that i think salem or some other schools will win, probly by 20 or more (dont know how good they are) but still graham actually won out in the district tourny and deserves to be there even if they aint the best team...
  8. [ QUOTE ] haha it takes a good 3 hours not too bad during basketball cuz you got your own seat usually and its on a saturday.. but football games man it straight up sucks.. but really any district we could be put in we'd have to travel a good ways not quite as far as grundy though but thats just 1 game, but i know at least as far as abingdon, tazewell, and richlands which are the farthest besides grundy. i know when went to william byrd this year it took probably 2 hours which is about what it takes to richlands... [/ QUOTE ] haha thanks i was wondering about that... yeah id say riding down there for football did suck...
  9. im not gonna lie i always hated going to carroll just cause you never get calls there lol, but weve always played there and they always been in the district so things should stay that way, marion we played twice a year anyways so it might as well be in the district, but the last time i played against abingdon was in middle school but its another game and you get to leave school early so why would ppl complain about that??? be glad you get extra games on your schedule and quit whinning... just curious tho, how long does it take to get from carroll to grundy?? always wondered that and figured this was the time to ask haha...

    JV

haha im not trying to sound like a prick when i say this im just being honest cause ive seen both teams play a lot, but the 8th grade team from graham could play better then the actual jv team for graham... at least from the games i seen... i think they scored 8 points in one half one game? thats awful... the 8th graders this year have talent tho and can play so we will see what kinda coaching we have a graham over the next 4 years...
  11. yeah hes coachin there... but they wont fire carlock, hes gonna be there till he steps down, which i doubt that will happen... hes not the best coach but not the worst either... i think the team should be at .500 tho with there schedule
  12. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] But even still, when it was on the book, did you ever see it or hear of it actually being enforced??? Obviously, if the rule is no longer in effect, there has to be a reason why...never used, maybe??? Anyway this is getting away from the whole topic of this discussion which is the coaching, or lack thereof, for the Graham High School basketball team. All Graham fans have seen this going on for years with Coach Carlock's teams, not just the recent varsity squads, but the JV teams he coached under Coach Jones. Those teams were never competitive and when they had an opportunity to win, it was often squandered by a lack of guidance from the sidelines. As I've said before, this isn't just my opinion, its one I've heard from many of the Graham faithful and outsiders as well. I have nothing against Coach Carlock, he is a great person and a very knowledgable football coach. But a basketball coach...he isn't... [/ QUOTE ] Aw come on, our JV teams were competitive, but not because of him. I played for him my 9th and 10th grade years, and then quit because he got the head coaching job. The biggest problem Coach Carlock has is that he doesn't know his personnel. I can think of one instance when Carlock kept playing a player at point guard, even though everyone knew the kid was a shooting guard, and a fantastic shooting guard at that. When someone else played point, the kid lit it up, but Carlock insisted he play point and threw him off his rhythm. [/ QUOTE ] well said... hes done this many times with playing people out of position, ive always been a guard and they made me play post until my senior year, which helped me for in college cause i box out and understand the position better, but i know a few ppl that were played out of position through there 4 years at graham... its not all coaching that graham is losing, but they have the talent year in and year out to at least be a team that finishes .500 or close to it and i think "most" of you all will agree with me on that... last year we started off playing 5 hard games, pulaski twice, bluefield, bassett, twin valley 3 on the road... we were competetive in most games until late (not countin the first 5 games i just mentioned) we were close with grundy, carroll, tazewell, richlands in almost every game last year until the last few mins, we were leading grundy at grundy last year going into the 4th (i have the game tape at my house and have watched it quite a few times thinkin what happened) but i noticed we made them play a half court offense the whole game then the 4th quarter let them get into there running fast tempo offense and beat us by around 20 just in the 4th, i didnt get to see the game this year but it sounds to me the same thing happened... but with the teams graham played this year starting off with a bunch of single A teams they should be over .500 in my opinion, but carlock doesn't lose all the games... even tho i think a coach should take credit no matter what, espically in the paper!
  13. ive watched a many of basketball games over the years and played in many as well, some of which we were getting blown out (i did play for graham ya know lol)... but not once have i ever seen this rule put into use when quite a few times it could of been but wasn't... last year when we played hurley and was beating them by around 20 at the end of the game i personally dribbled around wasting time and wasted quite a few mins just dribbling around or passing back and forth until they fouled, the rule wasn't enforced then either...
  14. Graham has had talent over the years, is it our fought the coaching cant always adapt to certain talents??? i like the coaches and all but still its most there fault not all but most, when my rec team loses that i coach its MY fault, its NOT my players. my senior year we had speed and could push the ball and press, but no instead we didnt try to run like we could he tried to slow us down in a half court offense and that wasn't our style... as a coach you have to adapt to the players talent on your team, players don't adapt to the coach, the coach adapts to his players... plus you need to get your players respect because not a dang one of them respect him they all talk $#!T because of things he does...
