I mean Volunteer and Cherokee both have one set of bleachers and they’re pretty good size. Volunteer and Cherokee hate each other’s guts. But that’s because the city of Rogersville is full of arrogant little shits, though the fishing is the best and Golden Dairy is the bomb.
Gate City used to always have students that should have gone here to Volunteer or over at North.
When I went to watch Union at Wise County Central, the guys at Central made Cherokee look like the beacon of humility.
I don’t know much about that Kentucky team.

Both teams made some big mistakes for sure. Richlands really probably should have put at least 2 more TD’s on the board. Had a 3rd and short inside the red zone and a holding killed that and forced a FG that was apparently just wide.
Also had the fumble on the 1 yard line. If he holds on there, that’s another one.
Richlands will need to play perfect ball tomorrow night to have a shot. Hopefully the magic of the White Out helps 😂😂
Both teams had chances to put more points on the board. Two evenly matched teams. Would been a classic if mistake free from both sides.
GC and Richlands looked to be very even teams. GC made some really big mistakes in that 1st quarter and Richlands took advantage. After that, GC slightly outplayed the Blues, but couldn't overcome that deficit. With that being said, I think both GC and Richlands are improved from last year, but not enough to take out the top teams in the region. Might play tight a game here or there as the season goes along, but they still have a lot of things to work on.
Brown is a good RB. Decent speed and runs hard. If Union keys on him, I'm not sure that Richlands can win any other way. I know that Coach Tarter mentioned in one of the previews that they would go as Brown goes. I think this Bears D will be really good against the run this year, so I'm picking Union by 21.
Would loved to seen the two play mistake free. That 1st quarter was a killer for GC. But that's part of it.
Blues at full strength on the offense tonight and it showed. Big improvement on the lines, but that was expected when 3 of your starters were out. I like that Simmons wasn’t forced to be a passer tonight. Had the chance to get 3 more scores and just didn’t execute in the red zone.
As always, love watching a game at Legion. Happy to be 1-0 and hopeful we see a good game Friday night with Union.
Would have been a heck of a game if GC had played first half like the second half. I'd say the center will be working overtime this week.
His site was actually one of the main inspirations for four seasons. I discovered his site and wanted to ask some questions. I didn't know whose site it was but it had a phone number so I called. A nice lady answered and explained that the owner had recently passed. Talk about feeling small. But I downloaded his Gate City Spreadsheet and I still have it. The spreadsheet was available for a while on the Gate City High School web page but I didn't see it the last time that I looked.
I used to love reading the articles from the older games. I'm glad you was able to download it and love your site.
Probably the little things lost in history.. Field trip for the Cherokee bunch in 1939 who could have had a coach or principal with ties to the area or big to fans of the Carter Family. They were like rock stars then and at the height of their national prominence with people coming from all over to get a glimpse of them in the Bristol area when not on tour.
The above is just a guess, but I do know the Carter Family brought a lot of visitors to the area in the mid to late 30s after the depression had ended and people had money to travel.
Coach Smith for Gate City had an awesome website for Gate City Football. There was even a news article that covered that game. It was short and to the point if I remember correctly. After he passed away the website just disappeared. All his hard work just gone. All that history vanished.
I wonder what the trip was like for Cherokee NC when they played at Gate City in 1939? That's really the longest one I can think of for then. I don't think Gate City returned the favor

it always seems that the local Va schools invite are one year too late except for GC a couple years ago. 2002 Council Cobras were in a year after winning state championship, now union and abingdon are in after a state championship and runner up finish, hopefully both play great and cherish this tournament
I've noticed that as well. Eastside was another a few years back.
From what I understand if vaccinated the kids don't miss school if exposed. The vaccine won't stop anyone from catching it or spreading it. Just has a high chance of not dying from it. I was fully vaccinated in June then caught Covid in October. Felt like a head cold for me. But I have had friends die from it. Reason I got vaccinated.
