Doesn't matter if it's his son or not. The coach is WAY out of line and should be unemployed, and possibly unemployable as a coach going forward.
I had to testify in court in a similar incident 15 or so years ago. Coach/dad beat the crap out of his catcher/son in the dugout between innings after the catcher attempted a pick-off on 3rd and airmailed the ball into left field allowing two runs to score. I was the plate umpire. Mama bear had coach/dad on the ground begging for his life before we even realized anything was going on. Coach/dad was arrested on the spot.
The moral of the story, you cannot, under any circumstances, put hands on a kid!

What percentage of McDowell County kids does the VHSL count as the future Tazewell County population?

Well there are two teams close to each other that should be in class 2 and not 1...

Traditional regional boundaries,  at least as far as D/C have been moving East for some time. As Far SWVA continues to lose population that will continue, consolidation won't change that

    Nothing about education is easy.
One of the most overworked, underpaid professions there is.

But... If you don't teach, you can recruit outside of the school.

Sorry for the delay in responding. There was golf to be played after leaving the office yesterday afternoon.
Coaches don't have to actually teach class to be employed within a school system. It's simple for a school system to create a position for a coach. Mark Dixon was listed as a school psychologist. That doesn't mean he actually did anything in that official capacity. Shane Allen is an aide in the Special Education Department. As a matter of fact, only 3 varsity head coaches at Galax actually teach class. The volleyball coach teaches World History, the girls basketball coach teaches Geography and Personal Finance, and the boys basketball coach teaches Gym.
The baseball coach is an aide in the Middle School. The Swim & Dive, Cross Country, and Track & Field coaches run the Galax Recreation Center. One is Director, the other is the Assistant Director. The Wrestling coach lives in North Carolina. I have no idea what he does professionally but he doesn't work for the school system. The Golf coach is the General Manager of Blue Ridge Country Club. The majority of assistant coaches are listed as "paraprofessionals" on the school website but have no clear classroom responsibility. I assume they are aides.
Stephen James doesn't teach anything at Grayson. Seth Greer doesn't teach anything at Carroll. Both are listed on their schools directories but neither have a position listed. Greer was a state trooper for a decade prior to getting into coaching.

A lot of good football players in our area are also soccer players.

If I was a football coach I would encourage my players to play soccer. The conditioning and physicality of it translates well.

Let's be real though. Most kids who play soccer aren't playing football other than being a kicker/punter.
Kicking/punting can be practiced anytime, therefore a kid could practice both sports in an afternoon and no soccer is being played on a Friday.
Baseball and even softball for that matter lose kids to soccer because they can't do both for the most part as games/practices happen at the same time.

I agree. Even though it means Galax wouldn’t have won the state championship in football last fall.

    ^ This.
Soccer should be in the fall.
Baseball is killing themselves with the bat rules. Forcing folks to spend $200-$500 every year for bats is criminal.

Baseball used to be rather inexpensive for a kid to play. That's no longer the case. My brothers son played for the Lake Norman Flyers, LKN Fury and LKN Thunder (USSSA) for a number of years. The cost, travel and dedication was exorbitant. My nephew burned out and hasn't played baseball at all since his freshman year of high school.
Soccer is relatively inexpensive and can be played almost anywhere. Soccer has and will continue to hurt baseball numbers across the country.
High School soccer being played during baseball season in Virginia hurts some as well. Most other states around us play soccer in the fall.

I'd say going from next to last in the district last year to a state semifinal appearance this year would say she was pretty impactful.

This is sarcasm right?  They had 18 more wins this year than last year and made the state playoffs winning the region.

Gofundme charges a pretty standard 2.9% for the credit card transaction plus $0.30 cents.

example: If you donate $100 to a Gofundme campaign then the recipient would get $96.80.
As crowdsourcing goes, they are one of the lowest when it comes to fees.
They obviously net a lot of money for theirselves because of the volume they receive being #1 in the industry but that is a trade off you take for using a well known & safe platform.

If you can donate at First Sentinel bank  then I would encourage that but if you can’t make it then I’d also encourage to use the Gofundme. They can use all the help they can get right now.

I’m not entirely sure. Troy Barkley took over in the late 00’s and won 5 state championships before going to Pulaski, where he attended high school. Since that time, it’s been one-and-done.

Soccer is a sport you have to experience in person to really appreciate it.

I’d encourage anyone to make the trip to Charlotte to watch a MLS match. Tickets are affordable and the atmosphere is worth the trip alone.
