I think the term “daddy ball” has been glamorized because of the explosion of travel ball.  In the past, AAU ball was an awesome tool to take advanced players and compete against the best.  Now, travel ball is a watered down version of that.  All you need is 7-8 kids, a little money for entry fees, and somebody to coach.  That coach is usually a “daddy” who builds the team so his kid can play.  
 
These parents think playing games is better than practice and that’s just not true.  You learn ball handling fundamentals in practice, you learn shooting form in practice, you learn post moves in practice, you learn how to make the right passes in practice, etc.  Kids who just play games only learn how to play up tempo street ball.  That’s why you don’t see a true point guard or true post player anymore.  Just a lot of shooters and slashers.

Injuries will happen during football. Proper weight training and conditioning can reduce that number but never completely eliminate them. I can see frustration surrounding a coach if he hasn't implemented a proper training routine. With that said, the kids have to buy-in and participate. Weight training and conditioning isn't something you can fake and make in relation to football. 
I know a few programs where a proper training program was in place but only a handful of kids participated on a regular basis, which ultimately hurt the team. A couple of those instances, coaches were blamed by the community but the coaching staff can't force kids to participate. It almost always comes back to "want to" on the part of the kids in the school system. Reading between the lines, it sounds like maybe there is some of that going on here.

Please have a kind thought for Essex head coach Todd Jones and his family. A family member had a medical emergency during the game and passed away. 

Single A football is terrible!! Ive never seen such bad offenses in my life for a state title game!! It wont be any better next year im guessing!!

I heard something totally different...lol.  We will all find out soon enough. 

Recruiting happens everywhere, including RH. I don’t believe CCC spent his formative years in Augusta County schools. I suspect several more in recent years didn’t either. 
 
I will admit, “don’t hate the player, hate the game” applies here. VHSL should have a smallest classification set aside for schools like Bath, Craig, Bland, Burton, etc. The smallest schools in the state should’t be competing with Riverheads, Galax, or George Wythe. Solve this whole issue by setting aside a division for the tiny schools, then divide the state into 3 or 4 even divisions. 

After seeing personal foul pentaly flags flying in just about ever game, and the coaches patting the responsible player on the back like he had just scored, yeah I'd say you can hang that statement on Richlands.  Come on man, pull the player, set them down on the bench after pointing out that his attitude is unaceptable, let him think about it for a long period and if you put him back in the game, do so only after reafirming him that if it happens again, he'll ride the bench the next game and he'll get the point.  Over and over rewarding a player for bad habits, means the bad habits will continue and they certainly proved that this year.  No discipliine equals no direction, not only on the field of play, but also in everyday life.

I’m pretty sure umbrellas aren’t allowed either. But I can understand that as umbrellas can be very annoying if you have a big crowd 

You should come to Hurley, go to the head of Elk Creek or Guesses Fork and ride a Bus to Poplar Gap, then tell us all what a great trip you had.

With the Roads we have in Buchanan County it is probably an hour and half on a Bus, but the powers that be are only worried about getting Grundy a new School.

How about Hurleys 5th, 6th and 7th grade team. Have outscored Grundy, Lebanon, VA High, Richlands and Grundy again 162 to 23.

How soon we forget when Richlands was accused of recruiting during their good run, especially with the Johnson's, and who knows maybe they did, but some of the stuff that was said has now come home to roost with the very ones that said it.  It's odd how the times have changed, when back then everyone wanted the head of coach Mance on a silver platter for so called recruiting, but now that the shoe is on someone else's foot, it's not that big of a deal.  Who cares if every coach is recruiting, and I suspect they all do to a certain degree.  Players cannot change schools without the parent or guardian consent, so why blame the players.  By the way, why even blame the coaches, most often the parents are contacting them.  Who doesn't want their child to be on a winning team, Duh!  As a Richlands fan, right now I wouldn't blame any player for wanting to transfer with the shape the program is in, and appears to be getting worse.  As long as Daddyball is in action, it's going to be running down hill like a fast moving freight train with no brakeman.  IMO and we all have one.

Any of the 1D games with the exception of Patrick Henry and Hurley can go either way.

You know the sad part about all of the red teams championship wins -is that they will forever have asterisks beside them. Since they are a 2A school disguised as a 1A. Nothing proved that more then them fighting to stay in 1A with absolutely no geographic reason for it.

Most good 1A school's would have trouble playing with a good 2A school.
