Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted July 27, 2010 That list seems FAR too backloaded in favor of the second half of the decade. Meaning that there should be more players from 2000-2004, and much less from 2005-2009. IMHO, the talent in Region IV from 2000-2004 was much superior to that from 2005-2009. The year listed appears to be their graduation year rather than their senior season. So all of the 2005 players actually belong in 2004. Still seems a bit lopsided but I wouldn't argue with any of the SWD picks, other than Jennings who should've been listed at RB over Harris. The Richland players were from teams that went to three state title games and won a state championship. Salem was not in Region 4 most of the decade and no other Region 4 team had anything close to that success. While I'm sure there were many players from earlier in the decade who were deserving of the award, I think your statement is a little strong...... Especially the Richlands picks, which I think are solid.
Hacker 82 Report Share Posted July 27, 2010 Strangely for me I found it odd that Rob Stanton of Richlands didn't make the team. He was by far the best receiver I saw in the region during the decade. The kid from Cave Spring was great last year, but I don't remember being impressed by the one from Abingdon.

Most of the time i would agree with you big D but not on this one I love jennings to death best player to come through Richlands imo but with that said Harris had that running back spot locked up. I only got to see him a couple of times but from what i seen without him there was no PC that kid was amazing to say the least.
trublue 939 Report Share Posted July 27, 2010 (edited) Richlands certainly has been blessed with some very good receivers in their successful run over the past few years. How very proud I was at the Chick-fil-a Game in the "Hokie Walk" through at the WCC at FanFest to see two of Richlands' players, Fuller and Stanton, representing our town and football team. Stanton, 6"5", put up very good numbers in his senior year (re: Hokiesports:Set school records for catches and receiving yards in a season when he hauled in 40 passes for 737 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior … Earned all-district and all-region honors ) Fuller, 6'2", also, was very productive (re: Hokiesports: Scored 15 touchdowns as a senior on offense and had six interceptions … An AP first-team all-state selection and a VHSCA second-team all-state performer at wide receiver as a junior … Had 57 receptions for 1,092 yards and 15 touchdowns that year … Added four rushing touchdowns … Broke the school records for career catches (114), yards (1,963) and touchdowns (21).) Another name that should be mentioned as a tremedous receiver for Richlands during this time, Matt Davis, 6'2' (RS-Soph at UVA-Wise). I'll include C.J. Arms, tall and lanky, that was a key contributor at WR for the Blues. Tyler Bailey of Abingdon,( RS-Soph at William and Mary) HS stats speak volumes. The combo of Bailey and Adam Henderson at QB for Abingdon was impressive. Richlands always "cloaked" Bailey in their game because of his capabilities of making the catch. Caleb Jennings...what else can you say about this quality young man, now an explosive RB at Emory and Henry....we're so proud you wore the Richlands' blue. Richlands' coaches know and acknowledge that some of their players get recognized.....but, the Richlands football program is about the ENTIRE team.. .....from the starters... too those on the sidelines awaiting their turn. It is the work ethic of ALL the Richlands players that make their program successful. Mance would be the first to say, as the Richlands head coach.....it's not just HIS program....without the assistant coaches valuable knowledge, time and effort....the program would not be honored and recognized today as one of the top HS programs in the area. Congrats to ALL those that were honored by VA Preps....and to those that didn't get mentioned.....there's only so many positions....and you and your family know that every player that "suits up and gets on the field" have a memory that will last a lifetime. THANKS to ALL the local high school football players that endure the extreme temperatures, the highs and lows of a game, the injuries, the "coaches in the stands" and gives US all something to look forward to in the fall.... "Are we ready for some football".......:) Edited July 27, 2010 by trublue
Lance 228 Report Share Posted July 27, 2010 I'd take Aaron Marcum at LB on my team any day...kid had the heart of a champion and was a hell of a LB. Don't think I ever got to see the two listed play, so don't have much to go on there, sure they were great if on the list.
