sixcat 2,919 Report Share Posted October 18, 2013 The Galax school board has approved a motion to add swimming as a winter sport beginning next school year. The summer recreation program has been strong for many years in the Blue Ridge Swim League. They should be competitive right off the bat. Both of my girls are on the summer swim team and are extremely excited about the prospects of getting to do this for their school. There are actually more schools than you realize with swim programs. Virtually every school along the I-81 corridor from Radford to Bristol, for example. Galax has plans to enclose the outdoor pool into a kind of year round attraction. That could be years away from becoming a reality financially, though. Until then, they will not host home meets.
