We will be relying on a bunch of younger players next year,  but they have some talent.  Got our QB back and in high school football,  that is a plus.  A lot will depend on how hard the young guys work in the off season,  but as long as we have Coach Mance and his staff,  I will always like our chances to have another good year !

Hard to believe another high school football season has come and gone.  The older I get, the faster they go by !

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone on here and their families !

Look for a new Qb for Richlands. Asbury at Qb and River moving to De/Fb. I may be wrong but there is a good chance of this happening. River can be a great DE and can run hard. The As bury kid has a chance to be really good. He is smart and has a great arm. He just needs to get stronger and put some weight on. River would definitely help the defense.

This is just my opinion. We will see how it pans out. If River does stay at Qb I think he can do a fine job though. He is just a good dual sport athlete and a fine young man. Just Remember the name Asbury. The football community knows him well and the talent this kid has. Really excited about his future.

Ryan is right about his thoughts. The defense will decide how good we are next year. Replacing both starting line backers is a big hole. Wade will fill one of them and no doubt he is going to be good. One more thing about next year nobody has mentioned the kicking game in which we have been very spoiled in for many years now. That is easily the biggest hole to fill next year.

I hadn't event let that cross my mind. The kicking and punting will be a huge hole to fill. Ben was a great one.

YeaRazor,  you may be right about Asbury.  I had forgot about him and if he does become the starter,  that would free up River to play either DE or maybe a move to LB.  With his size, and the way he runs,  I believe he would be a good LB and could fill one of those LB holes we will have.  Also would make a great fullback !

But as much as we will miss some of the guys on the O & D line and as much as we will miss Colton,  Ben Brown will be the guy that will be the hardest to replace.  He did so much on both sides of the ball and on special teams.  We will really miss him !

We have really been blessed with really good to great kickers over the last several years,  and that's a weapon that you don't really miss until it's gone.  It's nice to know that if you get inside the 20  that it's pretty much a certain 3 and to know that you can count on that extra point is also big !

Yea,  we'll miss that kicking game,  but hopefully they will come up with another one. Do you guys know if Coach Tarter is coming back next year ?  I heard that it's a possibility.

Haysi loses 3 starters (RB, WR, C) those 3 are the best we have at those positions. The RB is not replaceable but our offense is flexible and we will be able to work around it. Our QB(Sykes) was good this year but he will have to carry the team next season. IF he develops then Haysi could make a nice run next season.

The 2 teams I can speak on are Battle and Union.

If I had to put a number on wins for each next year I'd go with 3-7 for Battle and 5-5 for Union.

Both teams will be very young next year and both have tough schedules.

This may be a stupid question but I didn't live in this area between 1992 and 2007.  I am just now starting to pay attention to SWVA athletics.

When does Ridgeview open?  Combining Haysi and Clintwood is going to make a formidable football program given they turn it over to the right coaching staff.

I truly believe VHS has the potential to be similar to Fredericksburg's James Monroe High School.  JM is a powerhouse year after year.  City school with really good facilities, loads of athletes, decent financial support.  I think what has held VHS back in the past is not having a solid coach in place to lead the program.  I hope (believe) Crist is the answer.

Given all that, I think VHS has a good 7-8 win regular season next year and continues the growth.

I think Gate City will have a better team, but may not advance as far in the playoffs. I thought GC would win 4 games this year. Didn't expect the 8 win season.

Our starting RB this year may not play at all next year. I heard he suffered his third concussion during the season, and his doctor told him he was done with football. Our eventual starting RB also received a concussion at the start of the Buckingham County game and experienced some serious symptoms for a couple of days. Not sure if he will even play next year.

We don't lose many kids this year. As long as the younger kids keep developing, I think we will be OK.

Not sure if we have Sullivan South and Bluefield on the schedule next year. If so, I imagine we will start off slowly (record wise) and be a pretty decent team by the end of the year.

Supposed to open Fall of 2015. Not a lot of size coming up in the next few classes but the team could be dominant. Clintwood and Haysi have 2 sold coaching staffs, together they could be the best small school staffs in the state

Of the local teams in my area, Galax should be the better team.  Grayson loses almost everything.  Its hard to imagine they can replace virtually every starter and compete in the MED.  Carroll losses most of their starters and Coach Hale resigned after the last game of this season, although that may be a blessing!  Galax returns 90% of this years team but does lose 90% of its offense in Steven Peoples.  They will have to become more balanced if they want to make another run in the playoffs.

I'm not saying they will be state contenders, but Tazewell returns 20 of 22 starters and put up a ton of points offensively. Defensively they need to improve, but I feel like that will happen in the weight room. I know there is a lot of excitement going forward with coach Allen being in his third year coming up. I guess time will tell.

Fort will have a really good team next year. On off. Will have to replace Thomas and Mabry-QB as the 2 hardest replacements. Other starters Edmonds , Rathbone, Stoneman & Mooney. Gilman will be QB-he will gain a lot of yards. Key replacements for def will be Stoneman and Edmonds at LB's. Next years team will be their best jv team they ever had from last year. I think Radford, Galax, Covington, GW and PM(east) will have good teams as for as the old region C goes.

Abingdon only loses 4 "playing" seniors.  They have a very promising kid (current freshman) at QB which is always a concern but after the QB play the last couple of years anything new is welcomed.  They lose their center and have a couple of kids that can take that position and run with it.  Oline and Dline return all but 1 player.   I truly think AHS can be a 7-8 win team next year....BUT....as I have said all season...they need a new coach.  They need a whole new staff.  If that happens and they lose more than 5 games next year then I will never say another word about it.  Typically a new coach needs a couple of seasons to instill their playbook, etc.  But play calling, personnel choices and game management can turn a program around and quick.  If this administration does not make a coaching change this year they are idiots.  Plain and simple.

Yes GC still has South and Bluefield on the schedule next year. Not sure what Bluefield returns but South returns the bulk of their team. Really could not gage how GC performed against Bluefield due to the player suspensions in that game. Bluefield wins either way but I don't think by the blowout they did win by. As for South we had most everyone healthy except the two top RBs and played them pretty good in the first half. Should be an exciting season next year. Gardner should be back at RB and hopefully Heron too. Baker will be back at FB and Rasnick will take some handoffs as well. I see us being more of a Spread team next season as bad as I dislike the Spread. Hopefully we can develop some WRs for Collier. If Heron returns I see him lining up more as a WR than a RB. Hicks is likely done as he should be. A kids health is more important than a good season. I am looking forward to August 29th!

Giles will be at the top of the division again. I believe they return 8 starters on each side of the ball or something like that.  Tazewell should be much improved. The key to there season will be if they can get the defense going in the right direction.

From what I heard at work Gate City is the team for next year. 8 returning offensive starters. 2 of the ones they are losing are OL. The other Is the Collier kid. He said they lose a few on defense but they have kids who are ready to fill those spots. Virginia High will be hurting, so will John Battle. There success is done. Union is losing what 22 seniors? Central is a joke, Lebanon won't be any good. Lee will be much improved if they don't fire Martin. I look for Gate City to reign supreme again. But gah it hurts to say...

I wouldn't say that VHS and JSB's success is done. I don't know about VHS's athletes, but Battle will be young next year and with competition getting much better, it'll be a tough season. But the younger kids Battle has played with a lot of heart this season and I think they can win some games and get back to a good winning season the next year (I'm not ruling out a winning season this coming year, but like I said, it'll be tough).
