dshreeves 37 Report Share Posted July 11, 2014 Helper said mistakes will be found... I'm seeing Bluefield listed with only 3 home games this season?? Did i find a mistake or is this a scheduling quirk for them this year?
edrforshey 27 Author Report Share Posted July 12, 2014 They are missing Greenbrier West at Bluefield on 10/17 Only have 4 at home. Princeton Greenbrier East Greenbrier West Oak Hill
GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted July 12, 2014 Bluefield has a scheduling advantage that allows them to play one "away" game at home every other year (vs. Graham). This year just happens to be the year with only four "home" games but will play one of their six "away" games on their home field...in reality, playing a 5 home/5 away games this year (6 home/4 away next year). trublue 939 Report Share Posted September 16, 2014 ■16 September 2014 | 10:14 AM Football | VHSL eyes Friday state semifinals Friday night lights could be turned on for the football state semifinals if the Virginia High School League approves legislation Wednesday. The VHSL has traditionally held its state semifinal and championship games on Saturday for all of its divisions. The league’s Executive Committee will vote Wednesday at its September meeting on whether to allow semifinals to be played on Friday. A Friday night semifinal would be approved only if both teams agree. The VHSL’s agenda for the September meeting says there are several advantages to playing state semifinals on Friday: * Better ability by VHSL staff to cover semifinal games over two days. * Elimination of the conflict with SAT (tests) Saturday. * Opportunity for a bad weather date. Mike McCall, a VHSL spokesman, said in an email that he expects the legislation to be approved, adding that it could apply to this year’s state semifinals. McCall said Tom Dolan, a VHSL executive director, proposed the legislation. For now, the 2014 state semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, followed by the state championship games Dec. 13. The Group 5A and Group 6A championships are at U.Va., the Group 3A and 4A at Liberty University and the Group 1A and 2A in Salem. http://hamptonroads.com/2014/09/football-vhsl-eyes-friday-state-semifinals

And give the powers that be in Charlottesville, with the track record of brilliant ideas they've had, the power to put everything at one site? Hampton would be our Wheeling. No thank you. I'll pass. redtiger 1,740 Report Share Posted September 17, 2014 You expected anything different from the VHSL? nope, just stating the obvious and youre exactly right SW_VA_boy, our finals would be in Hampton or Richmond. No thanks. I would like to see the State Finals be over 2 days on 1 site but the 5/6A schools would throw a fit (and rightfully so) if their Finals games were West of Charlottesville. trublue 939 Report Share Posted September 17, 2014 VHSL head says realignment not solely to blame for $240,000 deficit By Dave Johnson, djohnson@dailypress.com 4:54 p.m. EDT, September 17, 2014 The Virginia High School League has reported a deficit of $240,000 for the past fiscal year, which ended June 30, but Executive Director Ken Tilley insisted the blame cannot be placed solely at the feet of its reclassification plan. Tilley said this was the third time in his 20 years as executive director that the VHSL operated in the red. In the previous three fiscal years, the VHSL had surpluses of $51,704, $239,145 and $107,181. Though this deficit came in the first year under reclassification, Tilley downplayed the connection. "It's not accurate to say it was due to one factor by itself," Tilley said Wednesday. "It was due to multiple things. For example, the football playoffs' championship round was played in horrible weather. That had nothing to do with alignment. The weather killed us." Asked if it was fair to say realignment was at least contributing factor to the deficit, Tilley answered, "It's fair to say that some aspects of the realignment format have had an effect on revenue, yes . Tilley stressed the significance of the VHSL's football championship round, in which all three sites — Charlottesville, Lynchburg and Salem — experienced cold and wet conditions that hurt attendance figures. "I do know that for a fact," Tilley said of the weather's impact. "It was bad at all three location." Tom Dolan, assistant director for compliance, said football usually brings in about $375,000 or $400,000 but was more than $100,000 short of that last year.
