So,  after loosing 2 games to 2 very good football teams,  both close games,  we are now a has been.......lol......ok.

Both teams has some issues this year,  but both proud programs and wanting to get their 1st win of the season.  Graham has the home field advantage.  I just don't know how to pick this game.........I'll just go with my heart again and pick the blues. 34 to 28

28-17 Graham

Neither of you are close with how many points Richlands will score.  If you add both guesses together, 34+17, that will be closer to the number of points Richlands will put on the scoreboard vs. Graham...

Maybe your right Gman,  but as of right now the Richlands offense has not set the world on fire either.  I think they have the potential to be very good,  but they just don't seem to be in sync right now.  I think some of that may be due to injuries,  I don't know but  I hope they get everything going this week.

I also have a tendency to give respect to the other team when i make my picks, I guess it goes back to my playing days when my coach always taught us to respect every team we played no mater what their record was going into the game.  That's why I almost never make a pick on here where I will pick a big blowout.  But I do hope you are right ....lol !

I can't pinpoint what's wrong with Graham's defense.  It has just been very bad.  They can't tackle, seems like there are huge holes on every play.  I thought they had good team speed, but it seems like they are much slower than the other teams.  They have no fire... I could go on, but I won't.  I think the potential is there for sure....but I just don't know how to fix it....unless they change their defensive formation completely.  Anybody have any thoughts on this?  I am baffled.  I sure hope that Kyshon Lee is doing better.  He is a very good player and in on a l ot of tackles.... Got good players on Defense....I don't understand.

To me the defense just looks timid. They just don't look aggressive and their tackling is bad. Maybe it's youth? Maybe it's the defensive scheme? Whatever it is, it's bad.

I saw them doing tackling drills today as I drove by today....

Timid is a good word for it and yes, they don't look agressive.

Most of the time this is due to confusion. When players understand then they will play faster just by nature. Don't know the team as all but would assume some type of defensive strategy change recently and kids are not comfortable. This is where the "kiss" (keep it simple stupid) comes from. Again, not saying anything bout these coaches, don't know then our program, just my 2 cents.

I thought Graham played the pass fairly well considering that they appear undersized on the corners. I think they could have more success stopping the run if they pulled the outside LB's in and played off the line of scrimmage. When Tazewell's running backs got thru the line there were only 2 LB's there to contain them. Tazewell did a nice job of sealing them off most of the night. The G-men d-line looks solid(not fast but very quick/physical). There are also some kids that don't play defense that need to be out there. Graham has a tall/fast/physical wide receiver that could cover some field as a safety. I think the D scheme is fine(for the most part) but I would move some kids around to take advantage of their strengths.

I have made similar observations...The LB's seem to be playing out too wide.  I thought it was the DE's job to turn the play back inside, but Graham is using their linebackers to do that (apparently, hell I don't know, that's what it looks like).  Problem is the middle of the field is left wide open.  I don't have a clue about how to coach football, much less defense, but I like to talk about football.....a lot...Maybe you guys who know your x's and o's better than me can shed some light on what may be going on.

Also, I agree about the pass defense.  With the exception of the one long pass play (mainly due to an excellent move by a very good receiver for Tazewell (Jordan) and a couple of completed passes off of qb scrambles...the pass defense did look solid.  Now, if we could only figure out how to stop the run.....

Like I said, I don't know them, but confusion = slow but knowledge = speed. Even the slower guys can play fast if they do not have to think just react.

Also, not sure of their scheme but maybe they were suppose to spill those inside runs out to those olb's last week rather than turn them in. That could be why those two linebackers were isolated. If not, those DE's must squeeze the play down to make a much more narrow opening so ILB's don't have huge holes to fill.

I have not seen Graham play this year and have no idea what the talent level is. I do know Richlands though and we do have a good deal of talent. This team is capable of winning any game left with the exception of Bluefield (maybe LB too). There is just the question of who will step up  when a play has to be made and MAKE IT!!!!!!!! We played a very Good Gate City team that might just go 9-1 or 10-0 potentially. The Union game you just don't know exactly what to say but Union made the plays when the game was on the line and we didn't. One could use the excuse we are young in so many positions but that don't stick when Union was as young as we were.

So we are 0-2 for the first time in a while and i know how bad its hurting the young men. They are practicing with a purpose which is good to see and i hope the two losses will be left behind them come Friday Night. I really don't know how to predict this game because i know as little about this years Graham team as i ever have. That being said i look for it to be like both of the Blues games so far this year.....Close!

Richlands-35

Graham-31
