Why?? Lol.

I heard it was moved to Thursday as well...Richlands requested. Gives them an extra day off rest headed in to the playoffs and frees up the coaches to go scout.

With Halloween falling on a Friday, the trick for area fans of high school football this week is knowing upon "witch" night the games will be played.

Some games have been moved to Thursday night. Some will kick off on Friday night, as planned. One has even been moved to Saturday for an afternoon kickoff.

Northeast Tennessee has the most extended slate of Thursday night games.

Thursday matchups of acute local interest include Sullivan South at Elizabethton, Sullivan North at Happy Valley, Tennessee High at Volunteer, Sullivan East at Johnson County, Sullivan Central at Unicoi County, North Greene at Tri-Cities Christian and Daniel Boone at David Crockett.

Savvy sports-minded observers will be quick to notice that the hotly anticipated clash between Dobyns-Bennett and Science Hill at Johnson City will be played on Friday without regard to spooks or goblins.

Whether intended or not, curious football fans from other communities can now watch the Tribe and Hilltoppers collide without siphoning off their own precious gate receipts. The only other high school game in our immediate area competing for spectators Friday is Seymour at Cherokee

.

The bulk of this week's Southwest Virginia football games will kick off on Halloween as previously scheduled. But there are some notable exceptions.

Games moved to Thursday include Clintwood at Eastside, Lee High at John Battle, Harlan Independent (Ky.) at Haysi, Honaker at Grundy and Thomas Walker at Twin Springs.

J.I. Burton will march to the beat of its own drummer, taking on Rye Cove at Lawson-Fitchko Stadium in Norton on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

Southwest Virginia games of local interest that remain fixed for Friday Fright Night kickoffs include Gate City's Mountain District game with Wise Central at Carl Smith Stadium (Virginia-Wise), Abingdon at Tazewell and Virginia High at Marion
