I don't really know much about Appomattox but from what I've heard from everyone else this game seems like it may be one of the best first round matchups. Plywood_King 517 Report Share Posted November 10, 2014 I saw Appomattox play Marion last year. They ran a split back veer, very little passing, and speed all over the field. My understanding is that they lost a lot of their playmakers from last year, but considering that they had similar results, I'd say that they're still going to be tough. If I remember correctly, they came as close as anyone did to defeating Giles last year, losing 17-14 in Pearisburg in the second round. But just maybe the size and strength of Lee will wear on Appomattox and they can pound the ball, eat the clock, and keep that speed off the field. Lee definitely has some good sized kids on the line and the RB's and QB are big and really strong. If you're gonna beat speed, that's how you do it. It's exactly what we did against Bluefeld this year and it worked. If they don't have the ball, they can't use that speed against you. I actually was one of the few GC fans that thought Richlands could beat them. They are a good team....but GC made them look way better than they were with the play calling....not to mention Herron was out. Same goes for the game against Sullivan South.....it's hard to beat a team running FB Dive 31 times unless that play is working every time.....and and it wasnt! Out star players rode the bench or was at wideout position while we ran FB Dive over and over. Anyhow, off my soap box! I think with Lee's physicality they have a chance to give anyone in the state a run for their money in 2A. When those hogs lay on you for 4 qtrs....sucks the will right out of ya! I hope Lee wins and with all the adversity they have gone thru leads them to round 2! I would like to take the opportunity to tell my Raiders that i am very proud of you! This is a great group of young men who work hard and represent the community well. Keep in mind there are only six seniors we are very young with a lot of freshmen and sophmores seeing significant playing time. However i must express my opinion, and this is my opinon, i felt really bad for the lack of support. When we have home field advantage how do we allow someone to have a cannon at our field. We hqd one sign on our side they had the fence covered with signs. We are not allowed.to drive golf cart on track but the visiting team can back a pick up and trailer on our track to unload and load cannon. Really. Hey lets just give the opposition the home field advantage. Our coaches and players deserve better! I would imagine it went something like this from the Appomattox bleachers.... Fred: Hey Jimmy what are those hicks doing with that pick-up and trailer? Jimmy: I don't know Fred. Looks like they're unloading something. Fred: Is that a cannon? Jimmy: Sure looks like it Fred. Fred: They brought a FREAKING cannon????? Nothing says SouthWest Virginia hillbilly like bringing your own cannon to a football game! Good job Lee! Way to represent! That is hilarious! I remember Buckingham County's coach patronizing that love last year when they played Gate City (Kingsport TImes article). I guess they will get an up close view of it next week.
