Deleted Account 5,203 Author Report Share Posted November 23, 2014 "I was worried about losing until I looked down at the floor and saw Dale Brown. Then I knew we had a chance." - Bob Knight Hokie fans could replace Dale Brown with Mike London and be 100% justified. I said after 2011 that I would never pick UVA against VT in football again until we actually won. And knowing our coaching staff failure, I cannot pick us. Hokiebird7 1,416 Report Share Posted November 23, 2014 Frank Beamer's tenure as head coach ends. One can only hope....but I know it's not happening so i'm not getting my hopes up We can't score and UVA's defense is pretty good....UVA's offense is nothing special(but 1000 times better than ours)...so I have to go with the Hoos UVA 17 VT
Bluefield_Rules 46 Report Share Posted November 23, 2014 Isn't it always interesting, the person(s) that builds something is in many cases the same person(s) that cause it to crumble. Beamer built VT football and galvanized the fan base, taking the program to places it had never been. And now, he's the one responsible for it crashing down as game by game the fan base develops more of the "I don't give a ....." attitude. It'll be interesting to see exactly how many people are in the seats come next Friday night, especially with the students on break.
Deleted Account 5,203 Author Report Share Posted November 23, 2014 Vegas put the line out as VT -1. Immediately bumped to pick-'em, and holding there for now. Edit: Now sharp movement to UVA -2.
Deleted Account 5,203 Author Report Share Posted November 24, 2014 It should be noted that the Vegas favorite has won 15 straight.
Hacker 82 Report Share Posted November 24, 2014 I hate to go with conventional opinions, except when they are based in fact. I expect that you will see some unusual things in the game Sat. Maybe even along the lines of what UVA did with Vic Hall. All streaks come to an end, and this one ends on Friday. BTW, I'll take a game like the one against Wake vs. the drubbing Miami put on the Hokies.
Bearcat Bob 491 Report Share Posted November 24, 2014 I have very mixed emotions about this one. On the one hand, I would LLOOVVEE for UVA to finally beat VT. That would be good for the program. On the other hand, a win over VT and Mike London's chances of remaining HC increase exponentially. That would be bad for the program. I think Mike London is a very good, decent human being. He is a tremendous recruiter. But he is not a D-1 head coach. Maybe he should be the Asst. head coach in charge of recruiting... Hacker 82 Report Share Posted November 25, 2014 Pat Forde on the subject: Virginia at Virginia Tech (11). Loser leaves town? With a moving van? Two embattled coaches with 5-6 records, both seeking to become bowl eligible. Cavaliers coach Mike London would appear to be less in control of his destiny than longtime Hokies boss Frank Beamer, but neither fan base is happy. When: 8 p.m. ET Friday. Hate meter: The enmity is alive and well, though neither side can be cocky in the grand scheme of things. Thomas Jefferson’s university has the classic, We Were Here First You Uncultured Heathen outlook on the old ag-and-mechanical cow college. The response from Blacksburg is to dislike the perceived arrogance of the entitled prepwads in Charlottesville. Some Virginia fans expressed there-goes-the-neighborhood dismay when Virginia Tech was allowed to join the ACC. Prestige meter: Virginia is tied for 23rd in the U.S. News rankings. Virginia Tech is tied for 71st. Upper hand lately: It’s been Hokie ownage. They’ve won 10 straight, a span of ownership now stretching more than 3,000 days – something plenty of Tech fans can tell you off the top of their head. Upper hand historically: Tech leads the all-time series 53-37-5. Trinket: the Commonwealth Cup is a handy bit of hardware. It’s a four-foot tall whopper, but the useful part is the silver cup that can be detached and used to drink the sweet nectar of victory postgame. Which is something Virginia Tech is quite accustomed to doing. Pick: Virginia 16, Virginia Tech 14. The nightmare losing streak ends at 10 for the ‘Hoos. legend11 and Deleted Account
sixcat 2,919 Report Share Posted November 25, 2014 The COO of my company just gave me two tickets to the game. He asked me to "enjoy some time with my wife if at all possible given what you will be watching". GMan
BHS03 99 Report Share Posted November 26, 2014 This is an interesting game. Usually I can't get excited about two 5-6 teams playing but considering the rivalry, the fact that both teams are playing for a bowl game, and VT's winning streak over UVA I love this. Should be a great game.
mavsgrad 28 Report Share Posted November 26, 2014 This is certainly a game with a lot of story lines, high emotions, and a lot on the line. As an outsider who isn't a fan of either team, I would give a slight edge to VT. They are playing at home, they have dominated this series in recent years (even the years UVA has had a good team), and they have more on the line I feel as far as salvaging their season by keeping their bowl streak alive. One thing I am certain of, Frank will be back as coach next year. I know that Tech hasn't lived up to the standard that Beamer built for this program the past three seasons but it's kind of ridiculous to be calling for the man's job when you might miss your first bowl game in 20+ years.
