Some really impressive stats:

Herron had 101 touches during the season. 1,860 total yards. 17.98 yards per touch. 26 TDs. One TD every 4 touches.

72 rushing attempts for 914 yards. 12.6 yards/rush. 16 TDs.

9 receptions. 242 yards. 26.88 yards per catch. 5 TDs.

15 punt returns. 538 yards. 35.86 yards per return. 5 TDs.

He could have had some impressive total numbers had the coaching staff fed him the ball. Only around 6 rushing attempts per game.

the question is why didnt they feed him the ball? The story of GC football is have a stud RB and GIVE HIM THE BALL!!!  So why didnt they? Durability issues? Fear of losing him and not having a adequate replacement?

That doesnt make a lot of sense. Herron was a dynamic scoring threat every time he touched the ball, yet he only touched the ball a total of 101 times?

He should have had 100+ rushes alone. That's crazy to me, not giving your best player the ball.

GC likely wins at least two more games and one more playoff game if they had a Herron-based offense

Note:  I'm not saying I 100% agree with the reason, I'm just giving the reason why he didn't have a ton of touches.

Herron had a very rough 2013 season with nagging injuries throughout the season that really hampered his junior year. It was so bad that it wasn't a guarantee that he would play his senior year, to ensure his health for basketball and soccer. They decided to limit his touches throughout the regular season in hopes of having him fresh for a playoff run. (In addition he suffered an injury vs South during the early part of the season.) Herron saw his work load upped once GC got to Game 12 vs Buckingham and earlier vs Richlands in Game 13. Unfortunately for Herron, the field was a disaster that made cutting almost impossible for both sides. Richlands adjusted to short catch and runs and GC gave the FB Baker the load of the carries in the 2nd half. Richlands had the better game plan and adjustment and earned the win.

I personally would've loved to see him get 20 touches a game but it's kind of hard to argue with the results. If GC was able to beat Richlands, it would've been interesting to see how it would've turned out. Oh well, not the first time GC fans have been left asking, "What if?"

I can understand that reasoning and can't say I disagree.

But if I was a senior and football was my main sport (I dont know if its Herron's favorite sport or not), I would have really pleaded for more touches and made it known I was willing to risk the injury. Not if its a career-ending injury situation or one that would hamper his adult life.
