With five straight home games in the middle of the season, Ridgeview should have a good shot at a high playoff seed.

But Div. 2 is much tougher overall IMO, not as many bad teams make the playoffs like D1. What kind of talent do Haysi/CW return? The team could be loaded if both teams return most of their firepower, both were above average last year, esp. Haysi

The 1A to 2A jump wont be too much of a change for either team. Clintwood (up until this past cycle) played one of the toughest schedules in SWVA and Haysi has played some very good teams with their past 2 playoff runs. The issue will be having to bring it week in and week out.5 tough teams before the open week.

Clintwood loses their 3 best players from their 2014 team in addition to other role players.

Haysi loses 3 really good Linemen(2 way starters), QB, FB/LB(best LB in 1A West, maybe the best ever at Haysi)and other players.

Lots of talent at WR and several options at QB. There will be talent at Ridgeview, but not I-Formation power running game talent and that worries me

Maybe the Clintwood guys with experience playing tough teams can help the Haysi guys get ready to play a real schedule.

Does the CW QB return? And does CWs best player, cant remember his name, Dalton maybe, return?

Ridgeview is about to experience what Clintwood did for the late part of the 90's and early 00's. They are going to play second fiddle to GC and now Union.  It'd be great to see them reach that level soon but I think a big adjustment period is coming especially for the Haysi crew. They pretty much never played anybody.

CW had some success in the late 90s with Justin Hamilton, but I agree with your point. Going from playing Castlewood and all those other BDD/Cumberland teams to playing big time teams like GC, Union, etc.. every year will be a shock to them for the first few years.

Haysi was very good last year, but they could not have competed in D2 IMO. GC, Union, Lee, Richlands, all made the playoffs and all had good showings. Even Central played a decent playoff game. Hell, Union was SEVEN turnovers away from defeating the eventual state champion at their place, and GC had a great shot to beat Richlands if the field was not in such bad shape to kill GC's slash running game.

Saying that they couldn't compete in d2 is something that imo can't be argued. They were a 1A west team that had 1A west enrollment and 1A west numbers on the football team. So of course they would have had trouble staying in games with schools twice there size. Depth is one of the big things that stand out when 1A and 2A teams meet. They were a very good 1A team. Everybody always throws off on strength of schedule. Why? Haysi lost 2 games last year (Honaker, Essex) and was one game away from the championship. With 14-18 year old kids sos doesn't mean a lot imo.

But they will have to play a lot better talent throughout the regular season, which increases chances for injuries and also can dishearten a team if they lose a couple games to good teams early.

I wont try and speak for Guru, but I think the point we are making is that Haysi is not used to having to play 7 teams in a season that are truly capable of beating you, its usually just 2-3 games a year before the playoffs.

Haysi was VERY good last year, but they lose a lot.

Even last year, if Haysi had to play Gate City, Union, Lee, and Marion, do you believe they would have won the same amount of regular season games? I do not believe so. Even if you are a better team, having to play great teams back to back to back makes it so hard to win all your games.

I do believe the combination will be a very, very good team and will be able to compete with the Gate City's and the like in time. From what I understand, both teams lose most of their best players so next year may be tough.

If they had combined last season, they would have been a real threat in 2A.

Haysi might have beaten Lee, but I believe Union, GC, and Marion all beat them. They might could have beat Marion at Haysi, but not at Marion.

Lee was soo underrated, they were  so close to beating Union and GC both.
