BHC Offensive Player Selections

very strange.  I don't know Wagners stats, but other than Herron he was considered by most to be the best RB in SWVA.  Simcox made several long field goals and some were clutch.  Guess the BHC had their reasons, but good buddy I'm confused too!

Are you really trying to say that a kicker should have gotten the award over the 2A All State Player of the Year? There is NO ONE that deserves that award more than Herron. Wagner was great, but he had twice the touched, and played a weak schedule. Herron played as tough a schedule as you'll see in this area, and he still produced 18 yards every time he touched the ball.

No one deserves that award more than Herron. Period. Quit taking away from what the kid did.

I think you misunderstand the topic.  The topic was BHC offensive TEAM, not the player of the year.  Herron deserves player of the year, period.  No one (I speak for myself and am sure for others) disputes that.  The question for debate was who was not on the BHC All Area TEAM.  Wagnor didn't make the team, despite all that he did in this season.  He was a Rivals.com All state 2nd team, Hogo MVP, etc etc.  The player from George Wythe was for sure a good player, but Wagnor should have been the second running back on the All Area team.

As for Simcox, he was also a Rivals.com All State second team.  Gardner got more reps at PATs since he had more opportunity.....

Hope that explains what we are discussing.  I understand that if we were saying Herron was not deserving of his award you would be upset.  That's just now what we are saying or discussing.

My bad. I assumed you guys were talking about the PotY since they had just released those over the weekend. Apologies, gentlemen.

LOL!!! Wagner would have had a heck of a season even playing a tougher schedule than what Marion did don't just go by the schedule

Never said he wouldn't have had a heck of a season. But if you guys played Gate City's schedule, would it be and the same? Who knows. But it's a fun debate lol

Let be honest, Wagnor overcame a lot on and off the field to achieve what he did.  That combined with his great season should have landed him on the BHC All Area team as the second running back.  There are a lot of variables, but to deny him that area honor (when he was recognized at the state level) seems crazy.  Stats aren't everything, and even then, you have to look at stats closely to see what they really indicate.  Simcox was put in to kick 4 50-plus yard FGs knowing that if the ball crossed the goal line it would come out to the 20.  Safer than a punt, no return, and all resulted in touchbacks, but lowered his percentage.  45 yards and in:  6/9, and 4/4 40 to 45 yards.   But if you look at just raw stats, his numbers aren't so good.  The BHC just didn't know enough in either of these cases to make (in my opinion) a better choice.

I don't want to take away from either of the two that got on the team.  But my opinion is that Simcox, and especially Wagnor, deserved to be on that list.

Fun to debate!

There is no doubt Herron deserved POTY...no debate.  Yeah, Ryan, I may have mislead you by not clarifying.  I'm just talking about who should have made the team.  Simcox was hands down the better overall kicker..from PAT's, to FG's to Kickoffs. Wagner was a phenomenal back and should have made the team without question.  The paper must be monster popularity contest.

Here's a stat that will make the Simcox snub really obvious.....the week before playoffs started Gardner had a point scoring total of 41 points..consisted of 2 TD's, 1 FG, 1 2P, 24 XP's.  Simcox had a point total of 49...consisting of 0 TD's, 5 FG's, 0 2P's, and 34 XP's.   Wow.  Paper claimed that Gardner had kicked so many XP's because of their prolific offense...yet he had 10 fewer XP's than Simcox.  And had only 1 FG.  Now, I'm not slamming Gardner...kid is a great athlete.  But tell me how he got kicker of the year.  Makes zero sense. Officially of my soap box.

I had a problem with the TE selected, Mitchell from Union had at least 500 receiving yards and 7 TDs, and I dont think thats including every game, MaxPreps says thats in 9 games. I cant find full stats for him. Mitchell was first-team All-State.

I also believe Noaks had more than 500 receiving yards and 7 TDs, but MaxPreps only has him with 7 rushing yards. Noaks was second team All-State.

Mitchell shouldn't even be considered a TE. Now don't take this wrong because he is a good player with the possibility to be very good. However, that's how he made All-Conference is Turner snuck him in as a TE and he never played TE, he was lined up as WR 95% of the time. So, he shouldn't even been in consideration for TE he was clearly a WR. The Gilliam kid from Lee had better numbers in every category than the Turner kid, and just as good of numbers but more TD's than Hill from Haysi while being selected First Team All State at WR, and he probably wasn't even considered for a spot because of the school he plays at.

Mitchell's given position is at TE. He lined up on the LOS way more than you say, he was not relied on as a blocker but he lined up on the LOS a lot during games to create matchup issues. Mitchell may have been working out of the slot at times, but most of the times he lined up on the LOS as a TE.
