Martinsville 91 Buckingham 34

Mavahi hitting on all cylinders tonite. Didn't get but 10 from big man Holland. I think they hit 14 or 15 three's tonight. They got big nights on the defensive end of the court from everybody that played. With all that being said, I still think they are more than going to have their hands full with the G-Men Wednesday night. With the long trip ahead of them and with all of the talent that Graham has, I feel as if the Dogs are the underdogs in this game. I just hope they can keep it close and have a shot to pull it out at the end. Mhsalum what is your take on this game?

Stop kidding yourself. Mavahi are the top dogs...they are athletic and have a strong post game. Graham struggles with both (see Bluefield). The G-Men have had a fantastic season and I hope it continues however, I think they only have one more game...

Prove me wrong, boys!

i've read on here that graham lacks size, but that's the first i've heard that graham struggles with athleticism.  if that's true....uh oh.

and if mhs shoots anywhere close to the way they shot it last night - my goodness.

The most athletic team that Graham plays, year in and year out, is Bluefield.  Graham hasn't beaten them in five years.  I think that says a lot.

Graham doesn't have much height.  Tallest kid is 6'3" and another is 6'2", the rest are between 5'8" and 6'1".  However, Graham did hand Honaker their only loss on the season and they have a couple of kids that go 6'5" and 6'8", but that was Honaker's second game of the year and Graham's fifth game of the year.

I did notice that five of Martinsville's six losses came on the road (or neutral site)...I hope that long trip slows them down some, could be the only chance Graham has...

the lengthy trip concerns me some.  even more, i'm concerned about how the difference in the style of play translates when it comes to officiating.  mhs has a couple of kids that could find some early foul trouble if the refs don't "let em play".  also, good guard play from the opposing teams has been a common theme in the games that mhs has lost.  graham seems to have that for sure.

Graham has some good athletes as well. Having watched them process this season, I say they definitely have a shot. Gate City and V High had some pretty good athletes and Graham met that challenge. Blue field had both size and athleticism.....both were close contests. In my estimation...Graham is playing much better now than in either of those 2 contests. I wouldn't hand a victory to Martinsville just yet. I expect a good game.

Graham's guards are the strength of the team...this could get interesting...

Doesn't sound as if this match up is going to be very favorable for the Dogs. Graham sounds a lot like Halifax Co. who beat Martinsville 2 out of 3 times this year, the only difference being Halifax did have their on 6-7 kid to match up with Holland on the inside. Mavahi is going to do what they do, try to turn you over and get out and run. A lot of trapping in the half court don't press much in the full court. I agree with mhsalum, I think a lot of this games outcome will be decided on how close the game is officiated. Dogs will have a long trip ahead of them Wed. and as G-Man said they have not played as well on the road as they have at home. Hopefully they will be ready to play when they get to Richlands today, because if they aren't ready it sounds like Graham could make this ugly quick. The Dogs are still a fairly young team( only play 1 senior a significant amount of minutes, start 1 sr 3 jr 1 soph), and with a jv program that has gone 40-4 the last 2 years, I really think that next year could be the year for them. They will be loaded in 05-06. Don't sleep on Dan River, I don't think they are quite as good as last year but they are still a very solid team with good overall size and are very quick.

then again, another common theme of those losses is that those schools have 2 to nearly 4 times more students than mavahi has...i guess we'll see how it all plays out this evening.

GO DOGS!
