Ryan4VT 4,546 Report Share Posted June 5, 2015 Who else is excited for the tournament to kick off tomorrow?? I've got USA winning it over France in the final. Germany lost two key players to injury and pregnancy, and some traditional powers like Brazil have too many holes. How do you see it playing out? Ryan4VT 4,546 Author Report Share Posted June 9, 2015 USA beats Australia 3-1 to open up Group D play. That's one win down and six to go.
GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted June 9, 2015 No way this team wins it all. Too many mistakes, too much standing around on defense, and not nearly as "polished" as teams from the past. The "experienced" players are getting too old, and the younger players are too inexperienced for such a big stage. Deleted Account
Ryan4VT 4,546 Author Report Share Posted June 9, 2015 I feel like last night was a case of nerves. It was basically a home game for them with a LARGE crowd there to cheer them on. The first half was very sloppy, but I felt we did a complete 180 in the second half and started to figure some things out. Lets not forget, that Australia team is the number 10 team in the world. It's not like we were playing the Ivory Coast. Friday is the real test for us. Beat Sweden who is ranked number 5, and I don't see any reason we can't beat anyone. Ryan4VT 4,546 Author Report Share Posted July 6, 2015 And now 99% of the people who watched this tournament can forget about the sport entirely for the next 3.8 years. Wrong. 1. Gold Cup starts in 2 days for the men's team. 2. Olympics are next year. 3. Men's World Cup in 2.8 years. So much to look forward to. Ryan4VT 4,546 Author Report Share Posted July 6, 2015 I'm talking women's commie kickball. And I'm right. Our women will look to repeat as Gold medal winners in the Olympics next year. That is, in fact, less than 3.8 years away haha.

And the cares that will generate will be somewhere between "zero" and "look at my paint drying". Like in the men's game, the World Cup so outweighs the Olympics that it's unbelievable. Ryan4VT 4,546 Author Report Share Posted July 6, 2015 http://www.sbnation.com/2015/7/6/8900299/more-americans-watched-the-womens-world-cup-final-than-the-nba-finals 25.4 million people watched this game in the United States. That doubles the amount that watched any game of the NBA Finals and triples any one game of the Stanley Cup Finals. To say that this country doesn't care about soccer is crazy. Will it ever beat the NFL? No. But this country is starting to fully get behind our national soccer teams. hhstigers7327

Ryan4VT 4,546 Author Report Share Posted July 7, 2015 Just goes to show how far to hell our country is going... I actually enjoy watching soccer much more than I do football. The two have flipped as my favorite sport in the last few years. As excited as I am to see my Hokies play this year in football, I'm equally excited to go to the women's soccer games a Tech.
