TCPS passed the first reading of the policy allowing out of state students to transfer in, provided they have a clean discipline record with no expulsions or suspensions over 5 days... a few other details have to be hashed out before final approval. Since the application deadline for out of state students will be May 1st, it won't take affect this upcoming year, but the next.

“Give me your strong, your athletic,
Your unhuddled masses yearning to breathe free in an air attack, spread offense,
The wretched refuse of your struggling defense.
Send these, the fast legged, strong armed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the navy blue door.â€

Stay with me thy noble and loyal,

Your unscathed dedication to community

Those who listen not to thine earthly father

who promises to lead you to greener pastures.

Do not "Give Me" anything at all

Rather continue to work hard and persevere.

Your ulltimate reward will be far greater

than those promised by a false prophet.

Stay by the cardinal red and gold beacon.

Do not go gentle into that navy blue light!

Young men should burn and rage at the blue light of day;

Rage, rage against the navy blue light!

Though wise men at their end know cardinal red and gold is right,

Because their words had forked no lightning they

Do not go gentle into that navy blue light!.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright

Their frail deeds might have danced in a blue bay,

Rage, rage against the navy blue light!

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,

And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,

Do not go gentle into that navy blue light!

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight

Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,

Rage, rage against the navy blue light!

And you, my father, who sent me on this sad plight,

Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.

Do not go gentle into that navy blue light!

Rage, rage against the navy blue light!

Damnit.

Looks like students will still have to live in the "attendance zone" to participate in sports.  Apparently they can transfer in as soon as this school year, also.  First reading mentioned next school year.  So an address within the attendance zone will still be required to play.

Anymore word on this? I would not mind seeing a few Big Creek area boys come over to tazewell

From BDT:

"In terms of West Virginia, Woodard said it is likely that Graham High School, Graham Intermediate, Dudley Primary and Abbs Valley Elementary could pick up some students from Mercer and McDowell counties. Schools in the Western and Northwestern districts of the county could in return pick up a few students from neighboring Russell and Dickenson counties."

My guess is that Tazewell could pick up some Big Creek area students, that would make the most sense for them.  Graham  could pick up some from the Mt. View area of McDowell Co. and Mercer Co. that would make the most sense.

Wouldn't surprise me to see a few from Bland Co. come to Graham or Tazewell as well .  (For Academics)

Doesn't matter  for sports anyway, if somebody wants to play sports, they have to MOVE with a parent into the attendance zone of the school they want to play for.
