sixcat 2,913 Report Share Posted July 15, 2015 Galax has altered it's colors from a very light shade of maroon that had an almost purplish hue to it in the 80's and 90's to a much darker maroon in the 2000's to an almost exact match to Virginia Tech maroon today. Galax has such little winning tradition, though, any changes are being met with resistance by the community. It seems Galax's new found success in athletics and change in uniform colors, styles and logos are seen as an attempt to distance itself from past generations. The high school just replaced the gym floor, moving away from the very expensive parquet that has become synonymous with Galax basketball through the years to a traditional wooden floor. Still expensive but half the cost of parquet. The community is in an uproar threatening to boycott basketball games and starting social media pages in an effort to get the parquet look back. Silly really, given the cost difference. Redtiger is right, the kids need to be the driving force behind this. It gives them a sense of pride and ownership in what they represent. I do like the G-star though. Traditional and classy look. redtiger and sportsfan
V-Cats 472 Report Share Posted July 17, 2015 We were pretty happy when VHS brought the all-black uniforms back last year. Now if they'll just bring the V-Cats logo back too
1inStripes 932 Report Share Posted July 20, 2015 Unless there is just some longstanding tradition, I am a fan of every coach putting his/her own stamp on things (logo or helmet change), but not changing school colors etc. Ryan4VT and redtiger
GC_Quincy 582 Report Share Posted July 21, 2015 I always loved the old Graham helmet. I have a lot of respect for that bunch.
