carolinahokie64 16 Report Share Posted August 29, 2015 Looking forward to the Radford Galax game Friday. Radford has a very, very impressive offense, they can score in a variety of ways and score quick. First team vs. First team at George Wythe, was 48 to 7 at halftime. pulled the starters out after one series in the second half. Trying to prevent injuries, because there is a Huge drop-off to the second team. Ended up having to put the starters back in to eat clock, because the backups couldn't even slow the Maroons down. Injuries will be a key for Radford this year. Don't know how good the defense is. Fridays game against Galax will tell the tale. Right now I think the defense is solid, but not great. If all goes well for Radford in the injury department, It will take a lot of points to beat the Bobcats this year. Like 40 plus.

futbolking 766 Report Share Posted August 30, 2015 Radford and Giles are usually the class of the TRD. Im wondering if Glenvar has had their moment to shine in that very tough district. Dont get me wrong. . . But coming out of that district in one piece will be a feat in itself.
Akshun 25 Report Share Posted August 30, 2015 Glenvar beat a great Galax team. Do not sleep on Galax or Glenvar. Both teams are very physical and big up front. Radford will have a long night if they cant stop Galax running game. I believe Galax Offensive and Defensive line will be too much for Radford. tornado99 345 Report Share Posted August 30, 2015 I haven't seen either team play in a couple years, but remember being impressed by Finley 2 years ago before he was hurt. I also remember reading about Grant being one of the best players on the field when losing to a talented Honaker team last year when being out of town. With that combination, it's no doubt they are impressive. With that said, I am taking Radford by 7. Could anyone confirm that Grant is related to Clintwood legend, John McFall? That seems to ring a bell for me as well. Thanks
redtiger 1,740 Report Share Posted August 30, 2015 One of Radfords players is but I cant remember which one. I see this as a battle of opposites. From what I saw last year Radford was loaded with athletes and liked spread things out with multiple receiver formations as where Galax liked to line up tight with multiple TEs/Wings. Its a game I would love to see

Duke2015 451 Report Share Posted August 30, 2015 Hadn't seen Radford play in years I'm surprised they run a spread out offense. Wasn't for sure but didn't they use to run a single wing offense back in the day, I may be thinking of someone else though being from appalachia we use to see that a lot in playoffs especially from most teams in region C. RCITYHOO 110 Report Share Posted August 31, 2015 Radford's starting middle LB was hurt for Friday's game. Hope he can play aganist Galax cause that will make Radfords defense very good aganist the run. And run stops is what Radford will need to beat Galax. sixcat 2,918 Report Share Posted August 31, 2015 Galax held Glenvar to 220 total yards, most of which were through the air. Galax still has difficulty stopping a competent passing game but can run the football against anyone, and have done so for several years now. Charles Harris finished with 201 yards. A lack of a passing game significantly hampers Galax. They were 3-10 for 21 yards against Glenvar. I was afraid the success Galax had through the air against Carroll was due to a lack of competition and that appears to be the case. As usual, Galax controlled the line of scrimmage against Glenvar but were just too one dimensional. I am not sure anyone expected what Radford did to George Wythe. It should be a great game and potentially a preview of a late round 1A west playoff match-up. sportsfan
gwloyal 192 Report Share Posted August 31, 2015 We had a lot of success moving the ball against Radford in between the tackles, but that Radford offense is the truth. We did better in the second half when Finley and Grant in the second half, but I really like how Radford makes you defend the entire field. Very difficult to stop. Finley truly was out there playing point guard on us with the way he was distributing the football. Add to that we didn't tackle very well, and it got messy quick. I still feel like we have a 7 or 8 win football team. Yes, we have some things to work on, and we'll get better. But it was all Radford. I expected them to be very good, and I left feeling they were a lot better than I thought. Intrigued by this game. I think Galax will bring a different matchup to Radford that we did. I feel like there will be a lot of points scored, but the game will come down to who plays the better defense in key situations. sportsfan

sixcat 2,918 Report Share Posted August 31, 2015 I think both teams are evenly matched with a slight edge going to Radford by having a few more seasoned, experienced players. Galax is extremely young. Extremely talented but extremely young. I was told Galax started nine freshmen and sophomores Friday night at Glenvar. The difference in the game, in my opinion, will come down to Galax's inexperience and youth making a few more mistakes than Radford.
Single A west 113 Report Share Posted August 31, 2015 This game will be close, in a mistake free game - Radford has a few to many playmakers. Galax will be able to run on Radford. As far as GW goes, they have way to much talent to be down 40 at half. Could of been much worse if Radford hadn't called the dogs off. Harner called a couple of coach hales pass plays, interceptions. Rod Johnson 95 Report Share Posted August 31, 2015 Just watched the Radford-Wythe game and the Bobcats offense is really impressive. Galax will have to tackle exceptionally well in space because Radford does an outstanding job of getting their guys into one-on-one situations with defenders. I also like the way that they create mismatches and pick on opposing defenders in man-to-man situations. Going to be a tough night slowing them down without the help of the elements. The reverse flea flicker screen pass was fun to watch. Might be the first time that I've seen that.

They did just hold your #1 ranked 2A team to under 200 total yards. Galax also has the next man up mentality after the departure of Steven Peoples and Joseph Dixon. Charles Harris is getting FCS attention and finished with 201 yards rushing against Glenvar. I expect a close, hard fought game but Radford will have an edge given Galax's youth and inexperience. sportsfan and Deleted Account

Yeah, I would suspect that Galax would be fine given their first week performance, but haven't watched that game yet. I guess that I should have said, "any defense will have to tackle well in space" against Radford. Best of luck this week.

Ironically, I missed the "reverse flea flicker screen", because I assumed they were going to punt to end the half, and I had walked off. Trust me, I heard how slick it was lol! sixcat 2,918 Report Share Posted September 5, 2015 15-14 Radford at halftime. For some reason, the 3rd year starting kicker/punter for Galax was unable to make the trip with the game being moved to Saturday. Galax is going for all 2 point conversions and an OL is handling kickoffs.

sixcat 2,918 Report Share Posted September 5, 2015 Dougie Peoples scores again. 26-23 Galax. Galax appears to be methodically wearing Radford down with physicality at the point of contact. We will see how that plays out in the 4th quarter.
