Players gaining attention from the next level

Several former Mountain Empire District football players are turning heads at the D1 level.  Daniel Hamm from Fort Chiswell is in line to start at TB for UVA.  Coleman Thomas from Fort Chiswell started several games at tackle last season at Tennessee and has moved back to a more natural position on the interior of the offensive line.  Steven Peoples from Galax has turned heads at Virginia Tech since arriving in January.  He is second on the depth chart at FB/H-Back and should see significant action this fall as long as he continues to respond to treatment on his shoulder.

Here is a nice article about Hamm.

The MED was the doormat of lower level high school football for two decades.  That is no longer the case!  I have to give some of the credit for this rise to the addition of Graham to the MED.  It has forced every other MED school to raise its level of play or get steamrolled.

Galax has a couple of kids who are currently getting some FCS (D-1AA) attention in Caleb Spurlin, Daniel Edwards and Charles Harris.

Who are some of the other SWVA kids gaining attention at the next level?  I am sure I am not alone in wanting to see some of the talent our area has to offer this fall.

In rereading my post, it's obvious I chose poor wording for my question.  Let me clarify.

What current high school players are garnering D1 interest?

Devon Johnson would be at the forefront of everyone's list of SWVA kids making waves at the major college level.  He will get an opportunity in the NFL without question.

Not your fault at all.  My original question wasn't worded very well.

Overlook Beamerball, he caint not read good.

Idk for sure but I think Hill(OLB/DE), Artrip(WR), Wade Turner (OL) from Ridgeview can play at the next level(E&H-UVAW level). Maybe Ryan Turner(RB), hes versatile, used a lot as a receiver last season at Haysi. He will be the feature back for Ridgeview this season.

For QBs, defenses and recruiters, Union's Mitchell is one big target Allen Gregory | Bristol Herald Courier

excerpt:

Meet James Mitchell.

A graceful sophomore tight end and savvy outside linebacker with straight-A grades in the classroom, Mitchell is listed at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds in the Union program, but appears taller

Respected college football recruiting gurus such as Tom Lemming have raved about the potential of Mitchell while major college coaches have him circled on their recruiting wish lists.

To me,  I love seeing these young men from SWVA go on to play at the next level regardless of where they come from and what school they played for.  The more of them that go to the next level,  means the more young men that get a good education and better their chances at being successful in life.

I hope there are many we are reading about in the near future that have moved on to the next level........which ever division that may be.  I love turning on the TV and seeing kids from our part of the state playing and playing well..........it sure makes me proud !

I'm sure union fans seen Clemson an Va Tech recruiters in the press box at the RV game. After the game they was talking to Turner the Clemson guys said to get him to eat some of that country food they had ate why they was in town lol. They want him as a TE I don't see but who knws. But the VA tech guys said no way he is a natural WR just over Hurd them after the game. I was thinking to my self he just a SO. Lol

Isn't there a guy at Va tech running back that played at dan river I think e has got a brother at Va tech who also played at Dan river. Watched them play vs gatecity few years ago.

The RB is Trey Edmonds. One brother, Terrell, is a rover at VT and another brother Tremaine is a linebacker with the Hokies.

Father Ferrell is the head coach at Dan River now and he played in the NFl for the Dolphins and Seahawks as a TE.

I saw Lemmings Twitter post about Mitchell from September 17 if anyone wants to look for it.  Includes some information about Mitchell's mother playing basketball at Brown.

To me Mitchell looks like a WR. He needs to put on some weight but that will come with time(as was said before, hes only a So). I could see him bulking up some and playing H-Back/Wing TE but imo hes not a inline TE.
