Buckingham @ Richlands

Showdown at Ernie.

One team has a QB with 41 TD passes. One team has a RB with 41 rushing TDs. Two completely different styles of offense.

Just like the Abingdon game, I think this one comes down to defense. And I'll not bet against the Richlands defense anytime soon. I'll also be interested to see how Blankenship looks this week after sitting out last night to rest that ankle sprain a little more.

Thoughts?

I am sure Richlands got a good look at Buckingham last year in the GC game. They had a really good size line and Ragland just stands up and sneaks around behind the line and looks for an opening to try and break one. The line didn't fire off the ball, they just kinda stand up. It was odd. They were pretty athletic and VERY VERY cocky/chippy. I don't expect Richlands to have very much of a problem unless they have a bunch of turnovers.

This time of year you have to come to play but Richlands is the better team.

Yep......I'll not bet against that D either. especially against a running team !

Richlands makes an emphatic statement at Ernie.

Richlands - 41

Buckingham - 10

I like the way you think !!

I can NOT wait to see this one. Lay it on em Blues!

I can't wait either and I sure hope we do !  I would love for us to make a big statement here,  but i will be more than happy with a 1 point win!

Balls in their court. We told them if they will play Friday night, we will move it to 7pm. They get to decide though. We will know Monday.

Seems more logical to me to leave school at 12 and come down and play and get home late as opposed to leaving Buckingham at 7am to get to Richlands for a 1:30 kick. But that's just me.

It seems more reasonable to me for Buckingham to leave after school on Friday and get a hotel near Abingdon/Bristol for Friday night. Get 'em in bed by 1030-1100, get 'em up round 9 on Saturday morning. Then feed 'em breakfast, and head to Richlands for a 1-2 PM start.

Can you really get a bunch of 14-18 year olds to bed at 10:30? One of their fans on Preps said that staying in a hotel before Gate City last year made them come out "flat" and that he heard the kids stayed up all night playing around.

Gettin' 'em in bed is the duty if the coaching staff...as is all team discipline. It's still a better scenario than playing immediately after a long bus ride. The way I see it tho, if a team's players don't care enough about advancing in the playoffs that they can't get in bed, behave, and put forth their best effort preparing to play the game...in that case, it doesn't matter anyways and they don't deserve to win. Being a champ comes down to much more than athletic ability.

We went to a camp at UT when I was in school(not the whole team but 12-15 of us. In bed by 10-10:30, up by 6:30-7 and handled business. Its on the coaching staff and the players. If they arent man enough to do what is needed to win then they dont deserve to win.

I would play on Saturday, playoff games = Saturday

I used to think the same thing, but they just don't have that "feeling" anymore for me.

The night playoff games that Union has had over the past 4 seasons(including Friday night) have been far greater than the Saturday day games. More energy, better atmosphere, better crowd participation for the night games. Don't know why. People just sit there during the day games like they're watching a movie.

Could just be a Union thing, IDK. I did watch Burton's game today against Covington, and I was shocked at how few fans were there. Not just Covington, but Burton's side was scarce and not very involved.
