I think the general feeling is Galax will run away with this one and I think thats pretty much right but regardless this has been a great season for the Rebels, one to be proud of.

This is also a matchup of 2,000 yard rushers. Last time that happened in SWVA it was another Galax RB(Peoples) vs another BDD RB(Bowen)

If Hurley can hold Galax to 75 yards of offense, they deserve the win!  However, nobody has been able to do anything resembling that since coach Dixon took over 6 years ago.  I wouldn't compare too many quality football programs to what the Pioneer District as a whole had this year.  Very weak district.  The weakest in 1/2A West in my opinion.

Does anybody know anything about the three players from Hurley that were hurt against grundy? I think the other rb tester could help Brady out by giving the defense another threat to have to defend. I was very very very impressed with Hurley this year. Brady is a great running back and runs with so much heart. Probably the best team in have seen Hurley put on the field?

Galax is a better team than their record shows. Lost a few games in the beginning by less than a touchdown. Going to be a great game I believe, but Hurley could pull it out. I know I thought I would watch Steven Peoples run over Haysi two years at Sandlick, and I was proven wrong

Steven Peoples did have 341 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns in that game.  Unfortunately, one man doesn't beat a sound, quality football team like Haysi.

Galax is far more balanced now than they were even last season and with better line play.  Caleb Spurlin and Charles Harris are a hell-of-a combination at the 1A level.

Peoples ran all over Haysi but the Tigers stepped up and made some stops in the backfield at key times.  Hard to convert 3rd and long when all you do is run, regardless of how good your RB is.

My posts aren't shots at Hurley, I wish the Rebels all the luck in the world, I just don't see them being able to slow Galax down. I do think it will be a shoot out and I wouldn't be surprised to see the score be close in the 3rd. I just think Galax pulls away.

That Haysi team was special sixcat. 2 MLBs that played sideline to sideline and would bring the wood combined with other really good players. One of the best Tiger teams ever.

Not sure Galax line play as good as last year but with Spurlin ability to catch football from FB/TE and split out wide is nice addition.  You could  allow a Galax TB to run for 300 and  few scores in past due to fact TB is only offense they have had.....Spurlin best overall football player Galax has had in Dixon tenure.......again I stated OVERALL   .....not meant to demean Peoples who is getting resp as true freshman

Spurlin was an all state center last year correct? I know he was very good. He is also a 2 time state champ in wrestling. I was kind of shocked when I saw he wasn't anchoring the O line this year, but he is athletic enough to play other positions.

Spurlin was the starting TE as a freshman and sophomore but ineffective line play forced the coaching staff to move him to center last year, where he was 1st team all state.  In my opinion, the OL play this season has been much more consistent, allowing Spurlin to be utilized all over the field.  He is one of those kids who doesn't seek limelight, just does everything asked of him and then some.  He is a very heady player as well.  He is rarely ever out of position.  His younger brother is a freshman starting WR/DB.  Josh is not nearly as big or physically as strong as Caleb but equally intelligent.  Caleb is the unquestioned leader of this team.  Josh will be going forward.  Caleb is the 2-time defended state champion in wrestling.  He won the 220lb class in 2014 and the 195lb class in 2015.

If this makes any sense whatsoever, no situation is too big for either of them.  Calm, cool and collected!  The game appears to flow in slow motion for those guys.

Don't really know what to expect with Galax, but the Parry McClure, Hurley score tells nothing about the game. Hurley completely dominated on both sides of the ball. Bad coverage on 2 kickoff's gave them 2 scores and the only scoring drive McClure had was about 75 yrd's with about 35 of those yrd's coming from flags thrown from what some may call Ref's.

Yes, Kevin is the varsity wrestling coach, assistant football coach and all around good guy.

When I was at the v-ball tourney a couple of weeks ago, I asked Coop about the 2 that were taken to Buch Gen. He said both were back at practice, but not 100%. I never really thought about it Sat., as Parry was the one needing the injury TOs.

The way I always look at it if you don't want the refs calls to impact the game take care of business and don't leave the game where I can be impacted by the refs. Because weather we like to admit it or not there are several plays in any game where if your team converts there would be nothing to complain about.
