Abingdon vs Lord Botetourt

I think LB and Northside have similar styles.  Very good on defense and a run first offense.  AHS certainly has the ability to win if we play to our potential.  I will be there in person cheering on the Falcons!!

Good luck to Richlands, Union and Norton in their upcoming games.  Pulling hard for all the schools in this neck of the woods.

Safe travels to all going to and from the games....and to and from wherever it is that you may go this week to spend time with family and friends.

Will Southwest Virginia have a Cinderella team in the 2015 VHSL football playoffs--the Abingdon Falcons?

Something about this team tells me they can and could make a deep run, much as Butler University did in the men's NCAA basketball tourney in 2011.

They have another uphill climb this week against Lord Botetourt, but  we here in the mountains are use to hills.

If the Falcons continue to play controlled ball and stay the course that gave them their two post-season wins,  I think they can churn out another win this week.

GO FALCONS!!!!!!

This is gonna be a good one.  Lets hope LB underestimates the Falcons like Northside did last week.  Yep, thats right, Northsides fans blatantly stated that the reason most of them didn't show up for the game was that they were suppose to blow out AHS and move on.  The joke was on them though.  NHS flat out ran into a buzz saw and got beat.  So let LB think that they are at some advantage.  Thats alright.  The Falcon faithful will show up in droves like last week to cheer on their Falcons to a victory.

(1) Botetourt will not underestimate Abingdon.

(2) Fans underestimating an opponent /= players underestimating an opponent.

(3) 7 points /= buzzsaw

(4) You get on Northside's fans being cocky, yet assume victory on your own behalf?

At least when Southbound and Falconman do this, it's funny.

I may have to take this game in since it's on Friday night and really the only game on Friday near me....Lot of driving if I go to Daleville on Friday and Appomattox on Saturday....but the playoffs only come once a year...and if Richlands wins I doubt i'll be traveling to wherever they are next Saturday....will probably go to either Jefferson Forest or Salem(I would assume one of the two will win this weekend if not both of them)

They appear to be a power run offense.  Off Tackle mostly.  I would say 95% of their offense is run.  If you can shut down the run game they are very beatable.  That being said they have lived by it all year and had plenty of success.  What Ive seen they execute their offense really well.  But again like i said before, Stop the power run and you can beat them.

Power running vs great passing. Both defenses may have their hands full. I doubt LB will be able to slow down the pass unless they get to the QB. The game will almost have to come down to the Falcons' D line. They won't have to stop them every time, just a few if the Abingdon air game is clicking. You don't have to stop your opponent, just outscore them. I think Staunton River proved that last week.

Go Falcons!

I'm thinking that LB will try the old "Best Defense is to keep Abingdon's offense off the field" theory.  Eat up clock and ball control.  But like you said, This may very well come down to AHS defensive line getting some stops.  I'm not sure LB would want to get into a shootout with the Falcons.  I don't think LB is designed for that kind of game.  This one could be a low scoring affair.  But me being biased says the Falcons need to score in bunches and impose their will on defense.
