Couple of Peeves.....

#1... people pronouncing Glenvar as GlenVAR (as in VARsity).....  It is GlenVUR ....(rhyming with fur)....

Having watched TRD football for quite a while back in the day, and now that Glenvar has arrived, it bugs me when people pronounce the name of the school wrong....

#2.... It's "Cousin"....not "Cousins".... had to hear the PA guy at the home games pronounce it wrong all year....and the radio guys pronounce it wrong half of the time....simetimes right, sometimes wrong.... folks on here call him Cousin and Cousins.  I'm sure it doesn't bother him, he is a great kid with a great attitude.  It just bothers me for some reason.  I feel like the Radio guys and the PA guys could at least pronounce his name correct, if that's what they are getting paid for (PA guy may be a volunteer, but still...)

These are things that bug me, probably no big deal to others.  Just wondering if I am alone in my train of thought, or if you all think I am just an old grouch.

Oh yeah

#3.... Those darn kids kicking their ball into my yard.

Disclaimer:  My team is no longer in the playoffs, so what else do I have to talk about....

It bothers me that no one knows where thomas walker is. Here is an illustration

Tennessee won't take us, Kentucky hates us, and Virginia shuns us (said in little gurly voice)

When people call Central "Wise Central."

@Trumpet... I do believe on EVERYthing that the VHSL send out it is referred to Central-Wise. Sure if you drive up behind the ole Wal-Mart and see the sign it says "Central High School" but to clarify Central could be a multitude of schools. I think within Wise County, Central would be directly associated with Central-Wise but travel closer to Abingdon and it could be Sullivan Central... Up in central Virginia there is Sussex Central, Central-Lunenburg, and Central-Woodstock.

Maybe utilized as clarification more so than people just being ignorant.

When WVVA does anything, it's usually wrong.... they called Jamorya Cousin ... "D.J. Hagerman" on that same broadcast that they called Scottie Ball..."Scottie Hall".  They were using last year's roster, or got it off of max preps or something... very irritating.  99% of the people on this board know more than those "sportscasters" about our local teams.  They are more concerned about running all over the state of West Virginia to cover "Meadow Bridge" or some school that nobody cares about around here.

Richlans! It's pronounced RICH LANDS! The guy on WVVA pronounced it wrong Friday night, called Scottie Ball, Scotie Hall twice and said it was a state quater final game. At least he got the score right!

They also said that Richlands lost in round 2 last year...

I remember a hand full of years back, the Fajardo brothers played for Richlands. I can only imagine how those young men felt when announcers butchered their names!! It was almost comical how many different ways the same PA guy would pronounce it during the same game!!!

No way around that. Knew that was going to happen as soon as they chose that name. And Eastside.....don't get me started on that. Sounds like a gang. Union may not be the most unique of names, but at least there's not another one ANYWHERE near here.

Union has a foreign exchange student on the football team. Everyone just calls him "Fred". The PA announcer got to him when calling out the seniors during a pre-game lineup, and simply said "#81, I'm sorry son, I can't pronounce your name", and just kept on going with the others.

Have you heard the accents on this Appomattox vs Lee broadcast? No telling how they are going to pronounce Richlands or players names come Saturday.

https://youtu.be/BA32l27C8x4

On a side note....check out the Bleachers at Appomattox....no way the Richlands crowd will fit on those.  Reminds me of those old Bleachers at Graham High School back in the day.

Appalachia, pronounce it right damnit. Apple-at-cha, but Appa-la-shun or whatever the hell people like to say.

I vomit when I hear that.

I hate Lee being called Lee County. I know in Giles County ( as in Giles and Narrows) they don't like when Giles High is called Giles County.

Glenvar should be pronounced Glen var, there's no u in it.

App a latch shun is the appropriate way, App a lay shun is total bs.

I hear Richlands pronounced Richlund a lot.

Haysi gets called Haysee a lot by people not from SWVA and Hayside by many from SWVA. Idk where either comes from

I'm a big fan of Union, Eastside is dumb and Central is too generic, as is Ridgeview imo

County getting added to Lee and Giles bothers me for some reason

We played Glenvar one year in a tournament and they kept calling them "Glenvur" and I laughed all night long that they were saying it wrong. Took me a couple of more years to find out that I was actually the one wrong. Problem is I STILL pronounce it "GlenVAR". I guess it's because of the way it's spelled.
