RiverRat24 274 Report Share Posted February 6, 2016 Was hoping to see this game since GC doesnt play tomorrow. Not sure if I'll be driving all the way to Richlands though. Any of you guys got any predictions on the rematch? Should be a barn burner
Ryan4VT 4,550 Author Report Share Posted February 6, 2016 I think it will me much like the first game. Gavin didn't play the first game since he was at VMI, so Union will have him back.

Ryan4VT 4,550 Author Report Share Posted February 6, 2016 Union by one is always a safe bet when these two get together. No kidding lol. These two are incapable of blowout or easy wins. So I expect a barn burner.
tbgfan 855 Report Share Posted February 6, 2016 The following writeup was in today's Bristol Herald Courier Union 55, Letcher County Central 53 A free throw by Jake Barnett with 1:23 remaining broke a deadlock at 50 and Union hung on for a non-district win. Barnett finished with 16 points to lead the Bears (15-3). Wes Slage added 13 points and Jay Gavin had 10 for the victors. Letcher County Central (15-7) got 28 points from Torell Carter. 3-point goals - LCC 2 (Carter 2), U 3 (Slagle) In the Blues victory last night against the Dawgs they had 13- 3 pointers, the Dawgs with 9. The Blues/Bears BB game is to be carried on www.wgth.net with starting time 6:00. The Blues this year have been starting slow in their games and coming on strong in second half. They need to set the tone for this game with quick scoring at the beginning and build on that. They are a great team when they start clicking with their scoring, it picks up their defense also. GO BLUES!!!!! Ryan4VT

RiverRat24 274 Report Share Posted February 7, 2016 Sounds like it was a pretty good game again. Was it intentionally fouling trying to save time at the end that led to the final score being a 14 pt spread?
hhstigers7327 217 Report Share Posted February 7, 2016 Richlands was up 57-55 about midway through the 4th and Union went on a 13-0 run at one point
mv91 259 Report Share Posted February 7, 2016 Scottie Ball fouled out with Richlands down 60-57 and it went downhill fast Ryan4VT

the u 2 Report Share Posted February 7, 2016 i have been to a lot of highschool sporting events but have never seen a home crowd act the way richlands did tonight. grown adults yelling at highschool kids like they were at a pro game. it was crazy. good win for the u tho. and why does richlands fans sit on both sides of the gym when you didnt fill up your on side? just curious Irishman
mv91 259 Report Share Posted February 7, 2016 Can't speak for any other Richlands folks as to why they sit on both sides but for me, I sit on the side opposite of the benches because it is the only side with spots for wheelchair access. I used to think Gate City fans were the worst but you guys have taken that title and run away with it. You're never happy about anything, even when you win...its always something: the fans, the refs, the food you ate pregame, you're team didn't win by 1,000 points, etc... Why don't you act like a GROWN ADULT??? FREAKIN' RIDICULOUS!!!! Great City, cowboysnskynyrd, Deleted Account and 2 others
RiverRat24 274 Report Share Posted February 7, 2016 Every team has their "fans" that bring a bad reputation to a fan base. I've met alot of Union/PV fans over the years that were truly great people and class acts. A few bad apples will ruin the image of the whole bunch. If you choose to let a few douche bags of a fan base solidify your opinion of the whole group then that's your own ignorance. Overall, I feel like SWVA has possibly the classiest and most supportive fans of any area of the state. GC_Devils 38 Report Share Posted February 7, 2016 Switching gears back to the game, it sounded like a really good one. Richlands has had a brutal schedule here at the end of the season, so the fact that they continue to play at a high level bodes well for them over the upcoming weeks. Despite not beating Union in one of these match ups, they solidified their spot in my eyes as one of the teams around here with the talent to make a serious run. There were a lot of fouls called in this game, and I think I remember that Noaks, Mitchell, and Ball all had four fouls beSore the end of the third quarter. Could someone say if it a pretty well called game or did the officials just not let them play?
