I noticed no assistance coaches were hired in last scsb minutes, Housewright's in mainly Jeremy will move on ? The schools are due for consolidation anytime, cost and inabilities too compete with the new school in old LPD Clintwood, haysi, little Nora will rule the mountain district for years too come as they were a jaugernaut in inaugural season!

I'm sorry but no.

I'm from Haysi myself and I don't believe it.  Lol.  Will we win a mountain district title in football someday?  Maybe.  Is it going to happen in the next two-three years?  Highly doubtful.

Ridgeview needs to focus on the middle school players, this cycle of players hasn't gel'ed well yet. They will be anywhere from 5th to 2nd at best. But history has it, Ridgeview should be a power in the next 5 to 10 years, once the wheels get rolling.

Imagine in 09 if Clintwood and haysi had of combined

Think along the lines of Union, It is hard for ego's to be swallowed as well as the pride. As long as the we vs. they faction stays out of it and patience is shown Ridgeview will be successful. If the factions get divided and frustrated it may never gel. I am betting it will eventually. The facilities are to be jealous of because there is nothing in SW Va. like them and I really think that the kids in Dickenson Co. deserve them after the facilities they had to endure for all those years. It took Union a while and it will for you too.

Exactly what is happening at lee atm, jonesville is clashing hard with Pennington (school board members). Jonesville atm is assuming power.

Truthfully if not for two powerhouses merging in 90. I feel like Lee would have experienced the same thing, sadly Lee has never really gel'ed and it's coming to a head again like in the late 90 early 00. (The fruits of the early 90s are now in power)

Heard many stories of horrid fights up there in the early 90s.

I feel like if you get this out of the way early, you will gel faster and learn you need each other.

That is what happened in Sullivan County with Sullivan North. They took to bitter rivals who hated the ground the other walked on and put them on the same campus like Lee County did. Lee High when they consolidated looked like college team, they had size, speed and were mean on the O-line. It just has never worked for them I have had several members of my family play at Lee and when you ask what the problem is, it is answered with one word, politics.

Lee was solid all through the 90s.  The downfall began with TW's former head man B. Lee.  Losing a lot from that '98 team hurt, but unable to get back up in the early 00s, and they still had some good players on those teams, and then the problem arose when the coaching carousel began.  It's hard to rebuild when your staff is consistently changing every other year.  Now it's harder than ever, fewer people want to get involved with the so called reputation, although I like to remind people that some of the past hc's either left on their own or were justly let go, with the exception of Palko (who was especially done wrong) and Martin. B. Lee was not working out for them and he was rightly let go, Wolfe resigned (forced or not, probably right move too), Brookshire backed out and never took the job (he ended up doing John Battle wrong too later on), Hagerman got himself fired after one year and it was apparent he wasn't the right fit either,, Sanders resigned after a few years to go back home to Mississippi, then we come around to when they started the questionable moves as they let Coomer coach only one year, let Palko go after two years, and finally let Martin stay for a few before letting him go.  Lee rarely hires from outside the system and not willing/unable to pay for much better.  A continuously revolving head coach and two older, former school bases still battling it out, and you get this struggle in recent years.

Were you there? You gotta be kidding. Lynn View and Ketron were rivals in some ways but the sports that were most competitive pre-consolidation were the ones that gelled the quickest. Fantastic basketball teams right out of the gate, state title baseball teams within 2 or 3 years, football was middlin but unfortunately the good football coach got the AD job and the other one just never did much. The Lynn Garden and Bloomingdale communities were too much alike to support an us vs them feud.

No I wasn't there, were you? I was a student a little school just across the state line, but my wife (who ran track, played softball and basketball) my sister-in-laws who played sports there as well, and my brother-in-laws who played football, and my father-in-law who played for Ketron and till the day he died hated Lynn Garden (he wished for an F5 tornado to hit it every year)  there was much dislike between the two communities and the baseball team was probably 75-80% Ketron.  The old timers in Bloomingdale used to say that the state title belonged to Ketron. But this is discussion was about football, all other sports fail in comparison to football.

Yep I was there. Maybe I just got along with people better.

My brother-in-law was the most vocal in the family and my sister-in-laws had a few stories about not getting along my wife could get along with anyone, except one girl. We probably know each other. My son played football for Robbie Norris and he and my wife have diploma's from Sullivan North hanging on our walls. I am totally neutral maybe my version of events is just tainted by my wife's crazy family. My father-in-law I don't think ever forgave his daughter from marrying a Gate City guy.

We probably did run into each other. I married a GC girl.

Everyone over here in the BSG doesn't fear a Lee General at all. Their school board always puts in who they want because you know they are smart enough to win the district every year no matter if it's football or whatever. And Janesville and Penningtown are always fighting because everyone knows their kids are the saviors for Lee High and they are going to have the college scholarship and go play in the NFL. Everyone here knows Janesville and Penningtown are like the most fearsome towns in SW Virginia when you put their kids on the field. Ok. You can now laugh. Since that's what everyone has been doing at Lee since 1994. You know. 25 years or a quarter of a century of thinking you are God's gift to sports in SW Virginia is sure to get you places. Like 4th place, 5th place and even 6th place. When you get a police escort for making it out of the region then I believe you may just have a really bad problem. Here at Union we have police escorts for state teams. The only escort you are going to find in Janesville or Penningtown is a policeman escorting someone to jail because someone from Janesville was fighting someone from Penningtown because you know these towns produce the best athletes in the state. When will Lee High have another team like they did when they first formed? Uhhh never.

Us Bears don't even respect the Generals anymore. Well maybe if their school board suited up we would. They do all the fighting and have run that county in the ground anyway as far as coaching and athletics.

Rest in peace Janesville and Penningtown. Rest in peace.

And if any of you people ever want to have your kids be apart of a true program where the TEAM comes first and we have REAL goals not delusional ones come to Union HS.

We are the future of the Mountain District, the class of SW Virginia and the Group AA.

You are truly the best comic relief on this board since the beginnings of Falconman and Southbound. Great stuff. Sadly, I honestly think you believe it and don't do it to be a troll.

Ridgeview will not be the power to be for the future in SW Virginia. I agree great facilities. But Union is where it's at in football and even basketball too. Ridgeview may win a title every ten years or so after Union has a down year for once which will be awhile. Basketball will not win anything. We have shooters like Wes who will destroy that weak zone for years to come so no fear there either. But this is football.

So let's recap.

They are fighting over the greatness of themselves in their own mind at Lee, Ridgeview will have Clintwood and Haysi greatness fighting each other, John Battle will be John Battle, Wise Central will not be very Warrior like at all, and Gate City has a new coach and new system.

And Union? I will be surprised if we don't win 8 or more games for the next 5-10 years. SW Virginia just needs to face it.

The road to any state title now goes through the Bears.

5 Star Stadium needs to be renamed 2 Star Stadium, Central will not be in the central but near the bottom of the league. Battle never battles. Gate City well the gates are going to open up and nothing but Bears will be marching to victory!

Hail Union! The merging of two timeless traditions that is still going strong and showing no signs of letting up.

Gate City and Legion Field USED to be the class of SW Virginia and the place people feared.

Welcome to the new face of tradition. Welcome to the face of football in SW Virginia.

Welcome to BSG and Appalachia

Welcome to Union!

Like I said before cocaine in a heck of a drug. If Union didn't win the state last year, they aren't going to win it this year. As bad as GC has been the last five years they will win another state title before Union gets to play for one. Go back to bed Gameday, be quiet and quit ruining our lives.
