Maybe and I will be the first to say that I thought they had Appomattox beat but my Spartans have lost big games before . The one area where Richlands really reminded me of Salem is they looked in shape . Even their big guys had little fat . I know you have seen other teams where their big guys don't look in shape. You don't see that with Richlands . Great program .

Offense has weapons in the passing game that is scary and have a QB that is one of the best in the state. A few return on the line, but that will be a big key. Gotta have the line gel quickly to block for JLA. We also need someone to step up at RB to take the pressure off of the passing game. Teams will play us to stop the pass and make us run on them, gotta have a RB who can hurt them. On defense is where it gets tricky. Lost both stud LBs. Lost most of the line. Lost half of the secondary. Howie will be one corner, I presume. I liked Collins in the safety spot, so you have to find another safety and a CB. I wouldn't be surprised to see Brown get the other CB job or maybe Ball. On your line I would expect to see a lot of young faces plus Lowe wherever they decide to line him up, be that outside at edge or in the middle as a run stopper.

The talent is there to go 10-0 with the offense we have. The key is the defense and how quickly they step up and help the offense out by getting stops. Should be a fun year again.

If the defense can hold up I say yes. But playing GC, as well as Union will be some big tests. The conference schedule shouldn't scare you at all, seeing that is not that good, outside of Abingdon and maybe Graham. I am looking forward to seeing them in person at GC to start the season.

Richland's will score alot of points each week....Howie is gonna be hard for any team to deal with and the rest of the wr core is just as good as I've seen in awhile. Once the figure out who is gonna be running the ball and the defense gets lined out I figure they will be still playing come December.

In December, there's only 2 games left.... I'll hold my opinion until the season starts.  There are a LOT of good upcoming teams in 2A this season.   I think we won't know about Richlands until about 3 or 4 games in, after the new guys have gotten adjusted.  I'm sure they will make a run however, making it to December????  Jury is out.

I tend to agree with futbolking for now.  The offense should be very good,  but they do need to figure out who is going to be the RB and we need to replace a couple of O-linemen, which I know we have some good young talent there,  but a couple of them will need some experience.

D is the worry,  they don't need to be dominate,  just be a good solid D and make a few stops during the game while they continue to get better as the year goes along.  Again,  we should have some good athletes to fill most of the positions of need,  but LB and D line will be the 2 places that worry me the most.

But I have a lot of confidence in coach Mance and Palmer and the other coaches to get it figured out !

I think James White will get carries. He spelled Nick out last year and had some moments. I've also heard we may see Collins run the ball some at times. Hearing lots of intriguing switch ups, but it's all speculation thus far.

At one LB, Elswick will fill Wades shoes. You just have to find another one and some good d-linemen. This team has loads of potential.

Richlands has had plenty of depth as of late.  I think Richlands had an outstanding defense last year that got somewhat overshadowed by the offense.  They will be hard to replace for sure, but there are plenty of options.  Like you guys mentioned... Only a matter of time for Mance and Palmer to get the most out of them.

D2 has a ton of quality teams year in and year out.  It'll be interesting to see who rises to the top this upcoming season.  I have said it before....D2 is much deeper than D3... there are more quality teams.....the top of D3 may be slightly better (not so sure).......but many more quality teams in D2.....You have to have a special team to make it through that gauntlet come playoff time.

I will say one thing... playoffs are much fun to watch .....outside of maybe a couple of first round games.......competition is really good..

Yea I'm pushing it a lil to say they will be playing come December but a team is gonna have to score alot of points to beat them. But there schedule is tough to start out with there's a chance they could start out 1-4....

Yea,  I think White has a lot of potential !  I loved to watch him run with the ball last year.  I would like to see him get a little bigger to be able to absorb the hits of a full season, but not so big as to slow his quickness.  I loved his instinct's as a runner.  Quick change of direction and the way he hit the hole when it was there.  I really like him,  but I  worry  just a "little" about his size and taking the hits,  but it's not like the blues have not had some great small-ish backs in the past,  like  "Adam Davis" and one of my favorite all time Blues.....Caleb Jennings.  Now of course I am not comparing White to those 2 as far as talent or anything except for size.   I have heard that he is stronger than he looks for his size and is a great kid.  I just think the kid has some potential,  so if he can give them any kind of running game to go along with that passing game,  the offense will be extremely hard to stop.  I would love to see JLA pull the ball down and run just a little more this year.  Teams don't expect him to do it and I know I saw several times last year where if he would have done that,  he would have had big yards.

It's gonna be exciting seeing this team grow this year.  I think they will start out as a good team,  but have a chance to be another one of those Richlands teams that can make another run if the young guys improve like we hope they will.

  • 1 month later...

If Richlands can replace 90% of their tackles on defense from last year. Which Wade, Holmes, and Addison accounted for. Then I think they have the offense to make a run. But replacing them on the defense will be a very difficult task

Mance is now the A.D.

Lots of changes at Tazewell, too.  I hear that Bill Dudley is on the staff now and Mike Williams is not.

Mance is the A.D..... and football coach.

Meant to edit my original post and hit quote instead... how do you delete a post on here, anyway?
