I'm pretty sure they won the state title in 1992 also then played again in 1993 and lost at Giles....Think they were on a 27 game winning streak when Giles beat them in 1993

Nine out of ten is not bad.

Lost at Giles in 1993 not 1996 And i'm pretty sure they had won 27 in a row coming into 1993 title game in Pearisburg
Bluefield researcher 1,195 Author Report Share Posted June 4, 2016 Lost at Giles in 1993 not 1996 And i'm pretty sure they had won 27 in a row coming into 1993 title game in Pearisburg Sorry about the typo. It was 1993 27-18. I just finished gathering the 1993 scores from the AP newspaper list and of the 8 regular season games that were reported they won them all. Next trip to the Library at Longwood University should help me fill in the missing games. Now it's time to work on 1992!
redtiger 1,740 Report Share Posted June 4, 2016 An incredible streak for sure. I was looking through the VHSL record book a year or two ago and noticed it. Its really REALLY impressive. I wonder what the competition was like on that side of the state during those years?

Bluefield researcher 1,195 Author Report Share Posted June 4, 2016 That also had an 81 game winning streak (regular season) during that time I don't think they could have had an 81 game regular season winning streak because they tied Nottoway 7-7 in 1986 (And Nottoway was the AA runnerup in 1986 losing to Tazewell in the 1986 championship game). That is the only blemish I've found in the regular season from 1984 - 1990. Looking at what I do have...I have that they lost to Nottoway 21-20 on 9-9-1983. They won the last 8 games of the 1983 regular season but lost to Madison County in the 2nd round of the playoffs in 1983. Although I do not have every game result for the next 7 years I do not have any regular season losses, just the tie with Nottoway in 1986. They won the first three games of the 1991 season before losing 20-17 to William Monroe on 9-27-1991. So if they played ten regular season games each year and they won all the games missing then they would indeed have an 81 game streak but it would be an unbeaten streak not a winning streak as the record would be 80-0-1. Still pretty darn good. redtiger
