Graham/Beaver or Beaver/Graham Game

One week from tomorrow Graham and Bluefield will meet for the 90th time. Thoughts and predictions for this years Battle of the Bluefield's? If Graham can hang with the beavers until the 4th I think Graham pulls off the win by a touchdown or fewer but if Graham turns the ball over or doesn't come out swinging then it could be a long night. If Graham wants this win they cannot commit a turnover and they are going to have to lay the first punch square in the mouth of the Beavers. Heart says G-men all day all year, but my head and history have to pick the beavers 49-35. Hope I am wrong

Actually 91st game. I found one in 1913 that wasn't on the "list". I think it is now though.  LOL.  If Graham can keep the ball and control the clock they have a good chance. If they have mistakes; turnovers, penalties, lose composure they don't have a chance unless Bluefield makes the same mistakes.

Not sure how to pick this game...heard Blfd lost a lot on their lines?? After watching Graham scrimmage I gotta feel the G-Men have a really good shot at winning this year. Coach Palmer has his defense hitting hard and flying around the football...just gotta cover the passes better.

I believe it will be an offensive game for both teams. But as things go, it may be better on defense than most think. In the end it will come down to Coach Simon vs Coach Palmer and it's hard to beat a seasoned coach.

I think a lot of it will depend on how healthy Collier is by Friday. A broken toe doesn't sound that bad but it sure is painful to run on.

I used to laugh at players who sat out because of turf toe. Then I got turf toe once. I'll never laugh at them again.

Didn't the x ray come back negative. Don't think it is broken. Maybe I'm wrong. Toe injuries can be difficult, depending on severity.

 

Graham has not been tested by a team trying to get to he edge yet. Their linebackers play awfully close to the line of scrimmage. It would be really easy to get caught in traffic and not be able to make a play. I think the lbs need to take a step back and get a better angle to the edge. Thus far teams have been running off tackle against them with zero success. It worries me because our LBs have been making most of the plays so far. . .

I think we'll be able to contain them enough to win this one. Not saying they won't break a couple. My biggest concern with our defense is our corners. When we face a team that can throw the ball well, like Richlands, I can see that getting ugly fast.

Bluefield has bigger problems then if Collier plays or not. I know that Giles has one of the better coached and physical teams that Bluefield will see this this season but they manhandled Bluefield on the line all night. Bluefield couldn't stop them and they seem to struggle with where they're supposed to be on defense. The first play Giles ran was a post pattern completed for 30 yards. Reed made the tackle eight yards after the completion and immediately turned to his teammates holding out his arms as if to say "what are ya'll doing?" I believe Bluefield will struggle to get pressure on the Graham QB and if they want to throw the ball they should be able to do it at will. If Graham is any better than last year they're at least two touchdowns better then Bluefield right now with or without Collier.

I see this game being a high scoring shootout. Bluefields defense needs a lot of work and Graham has a decent defense but Bluefield has a lot of offensive weapons. Should be a good one.

I agree, we mis-timed some of those passes.  We certainly have the athletes at corner to get the job done, just need to make some adjustments.  Hope you are right about Bluefield.... I'm sure they didn't show their hand against Giles, kept it basic.  I'm sure they will throw out all of the stops against Graham.  There's no hiding the line getting pushed around the field, however.  Graham is due for a win, I hope they can pull it out.

I seen someone post that they are expecting 10,000-15000 people at the stadium? I've been to many Graham and Bluefield games and both have a pretty poor fan base. Giles took more fans to Bluefield last week than they had. Is this like the one game that everyone comes to and then disappears until playoff time?

There will be 10,000 for this game with another 5,000 tailgating. The party starts around 10 a.m. Friday.  It's an event in and of itself. Except for the crowning of queens, etc. It really is both schools homecoming on the same night. It's a wonderful atmosphere. Come on over and spend the day at a Graham-Beaver game. You won't be the same after.

 

Lasts week "game" with Giles was not a game. It was a scrimmage. No one goes to scrimmages.

I watched them last year against Richlands as well and Bluefield hardly had any fans. It is hard to compare fan bases against Giles though. I think Richlands might have the only fan base to match the Spartans

And though it may have been called a "scrimmage" it was more of a benefit game. There is a difference. In scrimmages everyone plays and you get so many plays on O and D but last Friday Bluefield kept the starters in until 0:00 was on the clock.
