SWVAgridiron 1,469 Report Share Posted September 25, 2016 The Spartans are coming off of a tough loss to the G-men and have lost their wingback, fullback, linebacker, and corner back. Galax has fired on all cylinders this season and has had 2 weeks to prepare for the single wing. Galax has fallen short the last 3 seasons to the Spartans and I know they're hungry to finally get that "W". Dixon is probably the best coach in SWVA. He doesn't get to work with much speed or size, but he knows how to make the Tide a powerhouse. The last time Giles played at Galax they had to come back from a 30-16 deficit in the 4th. I am a Spartan but realistically id be happy if they just keep it within 14 points. Joryiklaf
futbolking 766 Report Share Posted September 25, 2016 Galax has loooked strong thus far. I expect this to be a competitive game, but got to give the edge to Galax. SWVAgridiron
Mountain Football 1,532 Report Share Posted September 25, 2016 That's a lot of injuries for a team that size to overcome. I hope they can recover and get back on the field. Galax wins. SWVAgridiron and kythunder
SWVAgridiron 1,469 Author Report Share Posted September 25, 2016 From what I hear, Chapman may be able to return if Giles makes it in the 2nd round of playoffs. But it is hard for a 1 or 2A school recover from just losing one of your best athletes.
tbgfan 854 Report Share Posted September 25, 2016 An uphill battle at this point for the Spartans, especially against a team the caliber of Galax. That being said I believe in miracles. Pulling for the Spartans. Go Big Red!!!! SWVAgridiron, Deleted Account and starcityfootballfan
nrv_football 81 Report Share Posted September 25, 2016 Giles played pretty well against graham without Chapman and Pennington. I think they will be fine. I say they can still beat Galax but they would have to play a near perfect game. I see Giles finishing 7-3 or 8-2.
Hokiebird7 1,416 Report Share Posted September 26, 2016 Giles will have to play a pretty good game to beat Galax....We are really banged up right now but that's part of the game. I will be in Galax Friday night supporting the boys no matter how it goes. I saw a team against Graham that showed some heart after we fell down 13-0 quickly and was playing without 2 of our better players. And that's all you can ask is for the effort to be there and it sure was IMO.....We were one horse-collar call(which I couldn't see) away from pulling out the W....but Graham made the plays and got the W. Can't tell you how many of our fans going out of the game were all over the coach basically blaming him for the loss....I got news for those idiots....we won't get a better coaching staff that what we have and you better be thankful for what we have. Everyone around here(well anyone with any sense) knew this was a rebuilding year and add in the injuries we currently have and if this team can somehow get to an 8-2 regular season the coaches and players have done one hell of a job IMO. One good part about the trip to Galax is the BBQ place downtown(can't remember the name)...it is soooooooooooooo good
IRISH-FAN18 323 Report Share Posted September 26, 2016 Question? Would anybody in this tread be shocked if Giles beat Galax? I'm thinking Giles may pull an upset here.
SWVAgridiron 1,469 Author Report Share Posted September 26, 2016 I know what Giles is capable of. And like Hokie said the coaching staff at Giles from 8th grade to varsity is superb. I know that they're capable of beating Galax from watching the film on the Marion tide. But it will be no easy task. Dixon knows how to coach. I know Galax should have made easy work of Rural Retreat and Rural Retreat gave them some problems and I thought Wythe would give them issues and Galax had no problems with them so I guess it depends what Galax shows up. If Galax that beat Wythe shows up they should win but if the team that played Rural Retreat shows up they may be in for a long game against Giles. sixcat 2,913 Report Share Posted September 26, 2016 By all outward appearances, Galax has fixed the issues they were experiencing between August and early September. If this is indeed the case, I believe they will beat Giles by a couple of scores. DIxon is the most prepared coach in SWVA. By having two weeks to prepare puts Giles at a severe disadvantage. Dixon has said many times in recent months, the second half of the Giles game is where everything clicked for this team last season. The following story was passed along to me by two coaches and a co-worker who has a son on the team. The Rural Retreat game is something you don't see too often nor have coaches admit to publicly. Dixon was so frustrated with certain dad's, he didn't coach and allowed the kids to call their own plays for the entire second half. I am not sure if they even gained a first down! If the intent was to get certain people to back off, it worked.
SWVAgridiron 1,469 Author Report Share Posted September 26, 2016 I think the 2 weeks last season hurt Galax. Giles came out in the 3rd and blew them away. Galax has had 2 weeks to prepare for Giles the last 3 seasons I believe. Dixon doesn't need 2 weeks, he could have them ready in 2 days. Though it could be ugly for the Spartans I'll go ahead and give them a 2 point victory.
SWVAgridiron 1,469 Author Report Share Posted September 30, 2016 5 hours till kickoff before IMO the 2 most physical teams in SWVA go at it! Is there any Galax people that can give an update on weather?
tbgfan 854 Report Share Posted September 30, 2016 Game Day Prediction per Roanoke Times Giles 24 Galax
SWVAgridiron 1,469 Author Report Share Posted October 1, 2016 That is what you call a game! Proud of the Spartans, they hung in there but just couldn't make the big plays when they needed. The coaching of Dixon is what determined this game. 4&1 and Giles defense assumes run and Galax does a roll out pass to the flat. Officiating was great, and two physical teams battled it out to the very end. They way it's looking Giles will more than likely go into playoffs with a low seed, having a shot at pulling an upset. Glenvar comes to town next week. It should be another tough game! Great game Maroon Tide, hope y'all win it all!
nrv_football 81 Report Share Posted October 1, 2016 Good game indeed. I think if Giles capitalized on a couple of plays earlier in the game they would've won. I believe Giles will beat Glenvar next week. 8-2 finish. Somewhere between 7 seed to 12 for playoffs.
singlewinger92 0 Report Share Posted October 1, 2016 Pretty proud of the Spartans the way they have overcome injuries the last few weeks and played well against two good teams. Giles could very easy be undefeated right now but a few bad breaks, its football. I also think they have a disadvantage because five teams they play have bye weeks before them. Ill take where they are right now. I do believe come playoff time Giles will not be a team you want to see. I say to the GW poster who said Giles would get beat by two touchdowns, I guess Giles is better then GW on what is supposed to be a rebuilding year lol lol. SWVAgridiron 1,469 Author Report Share Posted October 1, 2016 I watched the film on Galax vs GW. GW has all size but no physicality. Galax' smaller linemen were punishing GWs. Giles' would do the same. starcityfootballfan and singlewinger92
