New district for George Wythe this coming year should be exciting.  Was wondering what teams are returning some starters that will help them make a march into the playoffs.  What are your top four teams?

Not the MED of my youth, that's for sure.  The MED could easily have been the least competitive district in Virginia from 1993 to 2009.  Not a single program was competitive outside the immediate area in virtually every team sport with the exception of Grayson baseball.

It has experienced a complete 180 degree shift since Fort Chiswell and Galax have become competitive on a state level.  I believe the addition of Graham is, at least in part, a significant factor.  Graham forced others to raise the bar.

I look forward to what becomes of the new look MED.  It will be a gauntlet for sure.

That's a nice little district, Having to find five non-district games every two years may get to be a headache in the future, but it usually is easier for 1A teams to fill their schedule than the larger schools in the area.

Mountain Empire District featuring:  Auburn, Bland, Fort Chiswell, Galax, Grayson County, Rural Retreat and George Wythe.

I thought Graham and Narrows were staying in?  Narrows for sure but not sure on Graham?

Actually its a seven team district.  So you would only have to find 4 games

Black Diamond needs some more schools added. Getting lonely in Buchanan Co. and a section of Russell Co. these days.

I almost look for the Black Diamond and whats left of the HOGO to come together and form a district in the next cycle.

  • 1 month later...

Narrows is going to the Pioneer District....

James River is going to the Three Rivers District...

That should make the Pioneer an entirely 1A district and the Three Rivers District an entirely 2A district...

Heard that Bland was possibly trying to leave the MED to go into the Hogoheegee for the Fall of 2017, but I think they were turned down.  Any update on that?

The Cumberland and Black Diamond just need to merge and be done with it. The combined district would have Burton, Castlewood, Eastside, Rye Cove, Twin Springs, Thomas Walker, Grundy, Honaker, Hurley and Twin Valley. A perfect ten team district with competitive balance. Call it the Cumberdiamond District. nine district games and one non-district.

The Hurley to Ewing, Ewing to Hurley road trips would be the best part!
