Union is an interesting team, I agree in that it seems they play to the level of their competition.

Central is getting better, Vanover - McAmis - Mullins provide a solid core to build on. Their problem is GC is relatively young and great and Union has athletes. I feel like they have a small window to make some noise.

Ridgeview fooled me by beating Lebanon but the Pioneers aren't the same team that beat JSB.

Battle got the short end of the stick playing Lebanon when they did, that's a double L. Could lead to some funky standings next month.

I agree with Ryan.

Wise could be better if they used Mullins more. I def scratch my head at some of the decisions TJ makes. Mitchell picks up two fouls in first q, he doesn't isolate and attack him on D to try and draw 3 and make Zack take him out. Jenkins and Back both in foul trouble, Union has to play Garrison guarding Mullins, who is much more physically developed and stronger than Garrison, TJ only posts him up once and they get an easy basket. He allows Union to hide Mitchell on D for long stretches even w the fouls because all they wanna do is screen for threes and Union does for the most part a very good job of rotating. If he had posted Mullins, itd force Union to use Mitchell on him and risk more fouls, put Back back into game and risk him fouling out, or keep Garrison on him and double every time which would lead to open threes.

Some things he jus couldn't do, like Central has no matchup for Slagle, his size and athleticism killed them if they use Mullins to cover Mitchell. I felt bad for the big guy for Wise, he hustled hisnheart out and tried so hard but his lack of athleticism led to Slagle blocking hisnevery shot.

You raise a valid point on Mullins. He has to be one of the physically strongest PGs in the area. If they could figure out a way to isolate him on the block, he'd be hard to handle for most clubs.

I wasn't at the Union game, why wasn't Mitchell guarding Mullins? He did in the game I saw last year and pretty much shut him down.

I don't know anything about John Battle this season except that they lost three good scorers from last year.  I did notice though in the Mountain District preview in the Herald Courier, that the coaches picked us to finish ahead of John Battle, which was a little eye catching.  I could see Battle winning tonight, with the Pack taking the rematch at the Den later this year.

Union and GC cowtromp Lee and Central respectively.

Wise fans have already showed their colors in the girls game. I have a feeling this boys game could get interesting.

I always chuckle when I hear a GC fan say something about Wise fans because I remember many years ago when JJK basketball player Steve Thompson died and several GC fans behind me were calling the JJK players crybabies for breaking down during the moment of silence. Simple reminder: You are gonna have idiots from all comminities

GC was definitely a little rusty tonight....But finally got the ball rolling. Ervin couldn't miss from deep but Mac struggled to get his shots to fall. It was an interesting first half to say the least....Some wild stuff going on.

Wise Central's coach is a FOOL for condoning the actions of his players tonight. Some dirty basketball being played at Wise Central. It is never ok to try and hurt a player on a breakaway dunk. GC players reacted in defense of McClung. Wise better be glad the refs kept the game to 29 points, won't be so close at the Devils' Den.

Pretty lucky someone was not hurt tonight. There is a difference in playing a physical style of basketball, and what was on display tonight. This starts with the head coach.

I normally say very little about the refs. There are bad calls, both ways, in every game. Not sure how 2/3 of the crew in the boy's game got certified to ref.

I would be surprised if GC does not beat this bunch by 40 points at home.

Central came out on fire. Had leads of 7-0 and 22-15.  Score tied at 27 at the end of the first.

Central's points by quarter: 27, 11, 3, 12.

GC's points by quarter:        27, 19, 18, 18.

GC goes on a 33-3 run during one stretch. (according to a Twitter post)

Pretty close prediction by yours truly for the GC/WC game.

Red hot Zac Ervin led the way tonight, kid was on fire. Mac was uncontainable with his normal shake and bake self as well. Collier and Dean did a great job on defense and came up with a lot of physical rebounds.

Ervin 29

McClung 26

Dean 14

The boy that fouled McClung got stuck with the intentional foul...But the boy that shoved him into the wall 2 seconds after he landed didn't get anything called on him. That's the part I couldn't understand. Should have been 4-6 FTs for McClung depending on how they wanted to call it and an ejection of the one player that pulled that ridiculous stunt. Instead McClungs dad is the only one that gets escorted out...And I don't blame him at all.

Mac's Dad was upset because allegedly before the game, some Central players had said (on social media I believe.....not sure about this) that they would not allow Mac to dunk during the game. Then............you have the intentional foul when Mac went up to dunk........plus you had the Central "fans" and players on the bench cheering at the intentional foul.

There is a big difference in a hard, legal foul, as opposed to not making a play on the ball, and "taking a player out" when he goes up for a dunk. Really............that kind of dangerous play should result in an ejection.

Oh yeah............after the intentional foul.........Mac is on the line shooting. After the first free throw.........Mac looks at the Wise bench.........Central's head coach then starts complaining to the ref that Mac is looking at them. Zero class. Zero role model ability.

Agreed, the player who pushed McClung into the wall was McAmis. He proved how dirty of a player he really is after comments I have read on him, he seems to get it honest by the way his dad acts on the sideline (you know, the sore loser mentality). I was glad to see Ervin and Collier stepping in to defend Mac, they hit Ervin with a technical and somebody else for WC that offset resulting in Mac only getting 2 shots. Wise Central only woke up a sleeping giant which resulted in a whooping!
