They beat the Leemen and those guys have been very hot after losing to Martinsville earlier in the season. Dan River and Madison will be the only teams that should have an easy first round game. Amelia is fairly small and scrappy, very dirty at times...call themselves the "Bad Boyz" and try to play like the old Detroit Pistons. Bearcat Bob 491 Report Share Posted February 26, 2017 When East Rock got knocked out by Amelia, we started following Madison (they are just over the hill from us and my son plays AAU with several of the Madison players). We (ER) lost to Amelia because they shot 75% from the field. They are small, nobody over 6'2". #44 is a solid post player but undersized. He is surprisingly shifty in the paint though. #30 is the ball handler and has good range and nice stroke. He hit a 30 footer at Madison to send that game into overtime. #5 is the :enforcer". If Bill Lambeer has an illegitimate son, #5 is him. Amelia will try to trap early but if you show that you can beat it, they get back off. They are frigging relentless on the boards however. Be ready for some serious 5 men on the boards if you do not show the capability to block out. But at the end of the day, Amelia is a decent team but not a state quarterfinal caliber team IMHO. No idea who wins this game but here you have a team that came out of this tournament as a 2 seed and region runner-up by beating Chatham by 6 points. What a flawed and misleading set of facts. Leatherhead Larry 530 Report Share Posted February 26, 2017 Amelia was able to upset East Rock. They are a very scrappy team (the ones you gotta watch out for). Anything can happen, but until Richlands finds an offense that consists of something other than 3's at the top of the key and a Ball spin move down low to the hoop, it will be hard for them to win vs quality opponents. The 3's stopped dropping after the 1st qtr for Richlands, and you could slowly see the mojo shifting. Once DR weathered the storm they then took the game over by forcing turnovers and Richlands could never recover. Richlands should have slowed the pace but they played right into Dan River's hands by running and trying gun. I think this may be the end of the road for Richlands. That would allow Herndon to be the 3 point specialist off the bench, Smith as a big body off the bench, and the Horn brothers doing their thing. Would be a much different team. Would possible of won yesterday. I still see them winning Friday. This week they will be changing the game plan completely. I wasn't throwing the Lowe and Fuller being gone comment out there as an excuse. I'm legit just wondering just how much losing those two players have changed how this team has played and prepared. Lonzo Ball and Zion Williamson will be eligible for play this thursday. Richlands takes the State Championship with ease, put it in the books. Championship game is a different giant. The starting line up is going to change. Herndon and Smith will most likely be subs. Being replaced by the Horn brothers.
