I was on a GA Sports Board a few weeks ago and saw the famous GA HS Coach Nick Hyder of Valdosta High School fame was born in Elizabethton .Edit...played football for 4 years at Elizabethton HS. The stadium at Valdosta is named Bazemore-Hyder.  http://ghsfha.org/w/Nick_Hyder

Also, in reading the article, another famous GA HS Coach mentioned was T. McFerrin. Reading about Coach T. as he was called,  in his early career he coached at Sullivan Central.  (I've seen McFerrin coach as he was the HC at Jefferson HS when Greater ATL Christian played them in a playoff game at Jefferson.  McFerrin went on to win the AA state championship that year.)   http://ghsfha.org/w/T._McFerrin

Of course, there's another very successful GA HS Coach who formerly played at Gate City, Jeff Herron, who won the GA AAAAAAA state championship last year with Grayson HS.  Herron only coached at Grayson one year and has now taken a head coaching job in SC.

A coworker and I got a personalized tour of Valdosta's stadium and facilities once by one of our vendors that we were visiting. Very impressive facilities and tradition.
