I saw a video. Not a SWVA team but crazy

2014 4A State semis.

Lake Taylor vs. Monacan. Last little bit of the game, score was 14-12 in favor of Monacan. Lake Taylor driving deep in Monacan territory. Lake Taylor FG attempt was blocked. Monacan players run to their sideline in celebration. Ball was still live. Lake Taylor's kicker picked it up and ran it in. Lake Taylor wins.

The following week Lake Taylor defeated Salem in the state championship. Lake Taylor crazy finish

Wyoming East at Bluefield in early 2000's. Final score was something like 86-0 in favor of Bluefield.

My memory is foggy but it seemed as if Wyoming East punted on 2nd down one time.

Haysi @ JJ Kelly was one of the wildest finishes.  One thing that gets forgotten about that game was Newberry had a 80 yard punt earlier. The dggone thing went 65 yards in the air!

I didnt go go to the game but something like 8-9 years ago Haysi @ Hurley a Rebel player had a meltdown. Threw his helmet and made a big scene from what I heard.

This was pre game. In 2000 at Holston for a 3 team scrimmage it was Holston, Haysi and Johnson Co TN. JCHS rolled in kinda late, did some jumping jacks to warm up behind the visitors stands. They then proceeded onto the field where they got in what can best be described as a mosh pit and beat the living hell out of each other.   It was insane!   Most physical team I ever played against

From what I recall in the Wyoming East game, the coach at Wyoming East felt Bluefield was running up the score, and they did a couple of weird things in this game.  The punted early a couple of times on early downs giving the ball back to Bluefield.  They also had a fair catch on a kickoff in the game from their own 35 yard line.  The next play, they did a free kick which obviously had no chance and had people stunned and wondering why there would be a 82 yard field goal attempt who were unfamiliar with the rule.  Imagine the shock of the fans when the kick clearly fell short, and Bluefield took over possession at the Wyoming East 35.

Weirdest thing I've ever witnessed in any sporting event involved the two crazy special teams rules that occurred within seconds of each other.  In 1992, Cherry Creek, CO vs Arapahoe High, Colorado.  With 2 minutes left in the game, Cherry Creek was down 10 to 9, and they had the ball on their own 3 yard line.  The game was all but over as Cherry Creek was going to have to drive a ton of yards under 2 minutes on a team in which they hadn't moved the ball much all game, but Cherry Creek had a good field goal kicker and they were going to try to drive half the field and try to win it with a long kick. They had 3 timeouts left.  As the Cherry Creek QB took the snap from his own 3, the ball flew lose and when the Cherry Creek QB fell on it, he was laying in the endzone, a safety was called, and all of a sudden, it was a 12 to 9 game with about 1 minute and 52 seconds left in favor of Arapahoe, and the game surely or at least, likely out of reach at this point.

After the safety, Cherry Creek elected to punt the ball instead of kicking it to Arapahoe.  Cherry Creek had all 3 timeouts left and was planning on stopping Arapahoe and getting the ball back, and hopefully getting the game tied with a long field goal kick. In Colorado back then, you would kickoff from your own 30 yd line. Keep in mind that Cherry Creek had 3 timeouts left after the safety, so they elected to punt to Arapahoe instead of attempting an onside kick. The punt was mishit and went straight up into the air passing the line of scrimmage by 11 yards and landing at the 41 yd line, then taking a crazy bounce backswards for about 5 yards and stopping at the 36. Cherry Creek fell on the ball and it was first down Cherry Creek!.  Keep in mind, a free kick situation/free punt after a safety is still like a kickoff, whether it's kicked or punted, and the same rules apply in that....if the ball goes ten yards, its a free ball.

It was Cherry Creek ball at their own 40 with about 1 minute and 45 seconds left in the game and Cherry Creek was down 12-9 with a chance to tie.  They drove the field, took some timeouts, and facing a 4th and 3 at the Arapahoe 20 yard line with 13 seconds left, they tied it with a 37 yard field goal.  Surely, it's going to OT now.  Well, not so fast.  Cherry Creek kicks off, but the ball is badly hit, not sure if they were trying to squib it or what, but the ball went 20 yards in the air and Arapahoe fair catches it with 7-9 second left.  At midfield and 7-9 seconds left (can't remember the exact amount), Arapahoe drops back to pass and attempts a hail-mary ball, but a personal foul is called allowing time for one more play from the 35 of Cherry Creek.  Here's the rub on this one.  Arapahoe lines up for a field goal and the officials stop the game.  The Arapahoe coach is screaming at the officials giving an explanation and evidently, he knew his stuff.  Fans are looking in disbelief, especially the Cherry Creek fans. The rules stated that even if a team didn't attempt a free kick after a fair catch on a kickoff on the very first play, a penalty negates that play and is enforced, and the team has the option to it again since the very first play after the fair catch was a penalty.  And yes, a 52 yard field goal won it with no time on the clock giving Arapahoe a 15-12 win.  The rule is or at least....it used to be......if you fair catch a kickoff,  you immediately have the option to attempt a field goal/free kick the next play, but EVEN if you don't attempt one the next play and you simply line up your offense and run a play, if there is a penalty on that play, then you still have the option to kick it after the penalty is enforced.  The Sporting News wrote an article on this game and ESPN even talked about it 2 weeks later.  It had the 2 crazy special teams rules in full effect.

Wyoming East would also elect to kick off back to Bluefield after Bluefield would score a touchdown.  The stadium announcer said that it was legal. ..just surprised it was used.

Can't really complain about running up the score when you're punting on 2nd down and kicking the ball back to the team that just scored...

Craziest thing I've ever seen a team as a whole do is in 2007.  We stepping off our nice charter buses dress in matching team jump suites at the baseball stadium at Salem then Gretna pulled up in a couple of funky dink school buses with the emergency exits slung wide open hanging out of them and the windows, pointing at us, and barking at us like a bunch of dogs. We all know how that ended for us. A 52-0 butt stomping...

Craziest thing I've seen a single player do.  One of my teammates in 2008, ripped off a Richlands players helmet and then hit the Richlands player with it. This hatred between the players went back to the summer as they had to be separated during a 7 on 7 tourney at Abingdon. The Richlands player finally got under the GC's players' skin and got his skull smack with his own headgear. But the GC player was ejected and sat the next 2 games at the house.

Heck far, if we're going to talk about games from abroad... and all of you younger folks who may have never had the chance to view this piece of legendary video history, I present to you THIS:

The Texas state high school football championship game from Texas stadium in 1994.  Probably still to this day, the most talked about high school football game nationwide of all time.  Heck, I am pretty sure these radio announcers were the guys used in Varsity Blues, which in my opinion is still the greatest football movie of all time.  For those who haven't seen this, sit back and enjoy 5 minutes of a fantastic story.  For those who HAVE seen it... watch it again because this clip never gets old.

2005 at a basketball game in Pocahontas there was one referee that was giving some very unfavorable calls. After halftime there was a "box & one" ran on that referee. Literally one player pulled up his shorts, got in a low defensive stance, and played defense on the ref. One of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I've watched this many times and enjoy it each time. I would've been sick as a dog though....lol

This is one of my all-time most watched YouTube clips.  I remember the first time watching it, not knowing what it was.  The ending...just wow.

Once went to Pocahontas for a basketball game on Saturday with Narrows there. The JV game had 3 referees, all 3 Narrows alums.  Just the way they were assigned I assume,  At halftime of the JV game, went outside to smoke and several parents/fans weren't happy with how the calls were going.  One person spoke, "It's as if they just followed the bus up here."  When I mentioned that all 3 were indeed NHS alums, that person's cigarette was stamped out pretty quickly.

2002, Mitchell Stadium, game 10.

Bluefield, 5-4, playoff birth on the line.

Richlands, 8-1, playoff spot in hand.

Officials were so questionable that a disgruntled photographer from the Richlands sideline was escorted out of the stadium by some of Bluefield's finest.

The Beavers got their playoff bid and the series was shelved for a few years because of it.

Parkersburg down 18-0 with 6:39 to play in the game vs Huntington in 1999 2nd round of playoffs.

without any time outs and without the ball,

Scores 4 TDs in that time frame, I got called back,

recovered back to back on side kicks

missed what would have been a game tieing FG with 3 seconds left,

scores on final play to win 21-18

went on 2 weeks later to win the WV AAA Championship

3/4 of the people at the game didn't know Parkersburg had won until the 11:00 news , this was before wvmetronews gamenight

2012 or 2013 playoff. Ben Brown stripping the ball from VHS RB after fans left and runs for TD to tie the game. Then Ben Brown catches TD pass in OT to avenge playoff loss to VHS in 1987 on an out of bounds completion.

One of my top 3 favorite RHS moments ever. That game was something else.
