Not sure what led them to schedule this game but they both must have needed it in order for it to happen.  I think it's been around 20 years since these two have met on the football field.  I believe this game is going to be played on Thursday 9/21 at Mitchell.  Not sure why but every schedule I've seen shows 9/21

Freddy told you that personally?

If a team keeps airing the ball out late in the 4th quarter with the score in the 60s and 70s, against multiple opponents, in multiple decades, I'm going to make the logical tiptoe that the coach takes happiness in running up the score on his opponents.

It's not a coincidence that Bluefield has a hard time finding opponents.  Hint: it's not just because Bluefield is good.

I'd have a lot more respect for Bluefield's fans if they just owned it.  "Yeah, Freddy really didn't need to score 86 on Wyoming East, or hang 70 in a state title game, or throw a last second TD pass on Graham to hang 76 on them and set an all-time scoring record against them."  The complete inability for Bluefield's fans to achknowledge this decades-long "tradition" is just bizarre.

This is 100% the truth. Teams don't drop Bluefield because they are good, they drop Bluefield because they run up the score and don't show any class when they win. Richlands has been great for awhile now and you don't see teams dropping them from their schedules like you do Bluefield, because you won't see Mance run up the score when the opponent is clearly out matched. It is a yearly struggle for Bluefield to fill their schedule and in some cases when they don't and only have 9 games on the schedule they wonder why.

Respect goes both ways my friends. In 2013 when Graham was getting pounded they left their starters in against Bluefield's last team. Coach Williams did not ever honor Bluefield's sportsmanship by removing his starters. Graham starters scored three TD's in the last 3:37 against Bluefield's 9th and 10th graders. All TD passes and went for 2 after each one even though Bluefield took a knee on the XP after their 9th grader scored. Then coach Williams gets on TV and states how proud he is to drop 38 points on Bluefield. Next year coach Simon did not remove his starters and put up 76. Neither should have happened but you have to tell both sides.

In 2002 Wyoming East was pissed that one of their starters got thrown out of the game on what was a wrong decision. Bluefield 9th and 10th graders kept scoring in the third quarter. These players were so good that they played in 4 straight championship games. Kevin Grogg was so frustrated that he decided to implement the rule that allows you to kick to other team when THEY score. Bluefield 9th and 10th graders ran the basic offense and continued to score while coach Grogg pouted.

Same can be said for the 2004 championship game vs Wayne.  When Bluefield removed starters in the 3rd Quarter Wayne continued to throw long bombs and kick on side kicks. Bluefield put back in the starters and let them play. In the 4th quarters the back ups were allowed to play. But again, Wayne did not honor Bluefield removing their starters by removing theirs. They continued to throw deep and kick onside against Bluefield's 2nd team.

For the past 23 years, I've seen more Bluefield games than Graham games.  Freddie isn't afraid to score a ton of points, but many times, most of those points scored later in blowouts are by the 2nd/3rd teamers.  When he puts them in, he continues to call his regular offense...and against weaker teams, yes, even the back-ups are as good or better than the starters on the weaker team.  However, if/when they do score in a blowout, 9 times out of 10, Freddie has them take a knee on the PAT.  The only time I've ever seen him keep the starters in long after they should have been done for the night is during the playoffs and/or if he has an axe to grind (see Wyoming East) and against some rivals.

Graham was playing for pride and self-respect in that 2nd half.  I don't think anyone could (or would, or should) blame them for not laying down and just accepting a vicious beating.  It is each team's job to score, isn't it?

The problem comes on that last drive.  You're up by 3 scores with under a minute on the clock.  Decency dictates that you kneel to end the game.  Being a jackass dictates that you keep gunning for a TD, because you're butthurt that another team is, *gasp*, trying to actually play 60 full minutes.

I actually think it was decent of Graham not to woodshed Bluefield in 2016 worse than they already did.  I know were I Coach Palmer, I would have had a hard time not trying to hit 100 after that garbage stunt Bluefield pulled in 2013.

I will stay mute on this argument until I can personally verify what happens thurs night.  It has been 20 years since played and have only ever watched Bluefield once in person and Graham beat them somewhere around 15 yrs ago.  All I want to see is our boys play hard and tough again and IF this thread holds true for our guys not to get disheartened and play to their best and keep building.
