For those extra intense games I am always thankful when the local police are there to help escort us away from the field just in case.  Its been rare that its ever been truly needed but there is comfort in that, staying together as a group and hustling into the dressing facility.

The guy did say "I'll be waiting for you when you come out(of the locker room) and the cops won't be here".

There were 2 officers there, 4-6 fans involved and a 7 man ref crew. Not enough of a police presence to keep things in order and protect the refs. Not the officers fault, they did what they could.

I heard one guy tell an official  that they were the worst crew he had ever seen. Official says F you. This was right in front of me as I walked onto the field to hug my son. I just said don’t listen to him you’re not THE worst crew as I walked by him. I couldn’t help myself after hearing him drop an F bomb in front of a bunch of kids. The sheriffs office was trying to clear a path but cussing people is probably not the best path to safety when you have just become public enemy number one and said public surrounds you on all sides. In hindsight a bigger police presence would’ve been better but I’m not sure anybody expected it to get this bad. I’ve only seen it so bad one other time in my life.

Can anyone tell me why they had to kick off 3 times? Back to back to back???? Again most incoherent refs ever seen. Took 5 minute discussions on calls every few minutes. No one knew what was going on! For a playoff game these kids deserved much better than what they got! I went to Hurley-Eastside game and refs did a great job. Fans left the stadium in a nice mood even after their team lost...

I'm just going to try to forget about it.  I pretty much had until I logged on that other board this morning and saw a post that riled me up again.

Our season was going to end one way or another no later than this Friday night anyway, so why not just go ahead and let Grayson County be the sacrificial lambs to the G-Men.

I hope I never see that crew again though. And I hope I never see Grayson County again.  They've surpassed Covington on my most hated team list.

I went to Hurley-Eastside

It's my understanding that on the 1st kickoff that a player was offsides. Then on the2nd one the ref hadn't blown the whistle to start things. That's just what I can piece together. If there was a penalty no yardage was marked off. The time used for both kick offs was never put back on the clock. Complete debacle.

We we apparently spent much of the weekend together and didn't know it lol

Good win for GC and strong effort by RV...odd game ,scoreboard not working several loooooong officiating conferences.....17 penalties between the 2.  RV had a number of opportunites to break game open...Grayson had a punt blocked, threw a pick inside RV 10 and fumbled 3 times losing 1.  GC just seemed to survive for a while until RV gave them huge break fumbling going in which was returned for 90 plus yard bringing GC to within 3 (22-18) instead of trailing by 16 (28-12).  GC then got a stop and proceeded to keep ball for an almost 8 min,17 play drive taking their first lead at 25-21 . With a little over 2 min to go  RV came storming down field to just come up short in last seconds.   Didn't think either team played there best both both really played hard

Ist kick off kid from Grayson stuck RV kid who clearly fumbled ball as he was motionless on field.....referee blew inadvertant whistle and replayed KO.  Should have been TO with GC ball on 35....not sure 2nd KO......one of several long conferences among referees

No man.  Not even close.  When they won it all in volleyball last year, I was one of, if not the first to congratulate them on Twitter.

They're up there for sure.  Lol.  I still have that utter disdain for Covington and that BS they pulled at the end of the playoff game with Haysi several years ago though.  It used to be Council during the peak of the Haysi-Council basketball rivalry.  What's surprising to me is, I may be the only Ridgeview fan who doesn't hate Union.  On Friday, when they announced over the PA "End of the 3rd quarter, Richlands 10, Union 6.", the place exploded.  I don't know if it was they were pulling for Richlands, or they were just hating on Union, but I tend to think more the latter.

I did see a Facebook post someone shared with me though of a Union fan gloating that they wouldn't get that playoff rematch with Ridgeview, so I guess if everyone else saw that, then I can see why they don't feel too warm on Union also.

edit:  So, I've thought about it a little more... maybe it's because the majority of the fan base are Clintwood folks and it's that old LPD rivalry blood with PV/Appy is why they don't like Union... I don't know.  Anyway, I am pulling for Union the rest of the way.

Everyone bitches and complains about officiating from time to time, but attempting to provoke, insult, or fight an official is just plain wrong. Part of the reason folks who would make good refs refuse to even entertain the thought is because of the criticism and crap that officials have to put up with. Honestly, we should be thankful for the officials we have, because there are some good ones...and without them there would be no game. It’s not like the refs go out there and try to blow calls. I’m sure they try to do their best. Also, it’s not like folks are lining up to be officials, either...and who can blame anyone for not wanting to be a ref? Thing is, there is a ton of pressure on these guys to get it right, but they aren’t exactly pros...they get paid a paltry stipend to do a thankless job.

If it was an inadvertent whistle then wouldn't the ball be dead where the runner was advancing it? I'm assuming he blew the whistle thinking the RV player was down.

I give the the refs a hard time when deserved at games and am more than willing to point out a poor performance but what went on Friday was far and beyond acceptable. You're 100% right, without them there is no game. I'm very thankful to them for the job they do and the service they provide.

There would be an option by the team in last possession of the ball for a loose ball play.  They can either replay the down or count the "down"  and take possession of the ball for the next down where possession was lost.

Not surprised BJ was the one who did this.

Care to elaborate?  I heard Saturday morning that he was already banned from doing Haysi basketball games several years ago.  So, my opinion is he shouldn't have been allowed back in Dickenson County period.
